I understand it is a cheapo £300 laptop.

I think currys are doing a similar deal, you get £300 off any Laptop in the store (inc 2nds and recons) on any priced laptop if you sign up..

Remember this Orange BB is free if you have a orange contract phone, or even a Orange cashback deal phone.

Also I understand this ISP, was voted worst in the UK

Thanks Chiptivo, after looking at the various reviews of Orange Broadband I don't think I'll bother. A free laptop isn't much use if you can't get a reliable internet connection :-(

an unspecified Celeron processor, 256MB of RAM, Wi-Fi, DVD rewriter and a 40GB hard drive.

Yeah, that's not even £300. £300 laptops these days have centrino chips and 512MB.

Worst thing is that Orange bought out Amena, the provider I use when in Tenerife :x
You can't even get away from Orange and Vodafone in Spain! How naff is that?
I wouldn't use Orange for bb, but I can see how some may be tempted by the laptop offers. I wouldn't be however.

So many problems with Orange broadband - not worth it.
#7
have had Orange since it was Freeserve through to Wanadoo and now Orange. Have never had any problems at all in the 6-7 years.
#8
Can anyone see these lappies popping up on ebay? I can.

i'm on orange broadband 8mb and have had no problems at all

fwibble
due to my internet causing the lag

LMAOPMSL! :giggle:

I have never had any problems with orange.
#11
hmmm what :giggle:

deleted that, because evil minions had taken over my keyboard (damn you browns!).

Anyway what I was saying was that my orange broadband service has been of high quality.

And I usually host 360 games on xbox live, because I Don't get any lag.

Useful Post though Mr_rip as per usual
#12
haha... sorry, just was the best post of the week on HUKD!
#13

#16
voted cold because of a 2 year contract with orange!!! they are giving rubbish laptops anyway. my freind has orange internet and he says its rubbish.
#17
I have Orange broadband with wireless router and it's excellent - never fails.
Although a 2-year contract is steep!!!

More details here now..... http://www.pcworld.co.uk/martprd/editorial/freelaptop/?int=home_nav

Visit your local PC World store to sign up for Orange Starter Broadband (£14.99 per month for 24 months). You will need to take your full bank details to complete the direct debit application.
PC World Store Finder
The store will phone through your details to Orange
Select an amazing laptop deal from above or choose any other laptop from the instore range you wish to take advantage of.
The store will then give you a receipt for your chosen laptop – you must keep this safe and take it with you when you go to collect your laptop.

In around 10 days once your bank details are verified, Orange will send you your modem and activate your broadband line.
You will be sent a confirmation letter for your fanatastic laptop deal.
Just go back to the same store that you purchased your broadband from and take with you:
- your PC World receipt for the laptop.
- Your letter from Orange.
- Proof of ID and address – eg a utility bill and driving license.
You will then be able to redeem your voucher for your laptop and walk away with your new laptop!

If you already have a broadband connection - and you are within your contract period then you are unable to take advatange of this deal. If you are outside your contract period then you need to contact your broadband provider for a MAC code. This enables you to switch to the Orange service. This MAC code is required when you sign-up in-store.

Mate of mine had Orange Broadband. It constantly failed and their tech support were next to useless....they would blame BT, the PC, the Operating System, the Weather...anything but sort out the issue. This went on for 4 months before he had to switch to BT.
#20
i have to say i havent really had any problems with orange. live box wasnt too hard to set up and only occasionally it drops connection. I thought it sounded quite a good deal if you wanted a free pc and were going to pay someone for broadband anyway. Ive had orange/wanadoo/freeserve since i signed up to a email account and not used anyone else as service provider but IMO its not as bad as is reported

I've had Orange/Wanadoo/Freeserve broadband for years without any problems whatsoever:?

Perfect for my mum! No good for me though, but still a great deal for the right person. Thanks a lot!

The news article I read said that the 8Mb/s service would be available with this offer (for the normal price). Interestingly, they also said that you could have £350 off any laptop in the store instead of the ones they are giving away. Obviously, the PC World site doesn't say this, so I wonder if someone going near a PC World could pick up a copy of the terms and conditions? £350 off any laptop would seem like a good deal (though I don't think I want to be tied in for 2 years ... especially with 24Mb/s broadband coming to me soon).

Well if it is the 8MB service its not so bad BUT on the orange website they charge £20 a month for that or £15 for the 2MB waste of space limited version..... We shall wait and see:thumbsup:

Orange Broadband.

Does it say anything about what would happen if you cancelled the deal after you recieved the laptop???
#27
u cant your tied into the 24 month contract
#28
Whats this mean then -
With Broadband Starter you have 30 days after your broadband service is active to cancel if you find it's not for you. Just call us on 0870 1900 672 for your money back. No hard feelings.

???

not worth the hassle for a rubbish laptop. 24 months is a very long time and there will be alot better deals within 24 months. would rather wait and see if there is a 1 year contract with a more reasonable company.

What? Not worth the hassle of spending 10 minutes signing up, then another 10 minutes cancelling to earn £200 selling the thing on ebay? £200 for 20 minutes work sounds OK to me!

That does sound pretty sweet, but I dare say laptops are like SD cards, they turn up 3 months into your subscription:giggle:

You're probably not wrong!
#33
i dont think it works like that otherwise it would be chaos

if u cancel u probably have to hand the laptop back
#34
well i'm orange already. im quite happy with them with no plans to change. so im going to cancel tomorrow to take advantage of this. Either that or force them to give me a laptop anyway!

What the hell, i posted this deal yesterday for currys and got cold votes!
#36
How bad is this deal? I am really unsure whether i should go with it or not. I was using a fujitsu amilo L1300 until it broke at christmas and now am using an old crappy fujitsu pc with low spec, I'm not sure of all the specs on the L1300 so don't know how good/bad the laptop with this deal compares.

Is it worth ditching my old rundown pc and my 3 for £30 (£10) Virgin media broadband and switching to this?

Really don't know what to do...:-(

Any advice would be great! :)

So yeh I work at PC World and we have been dreading this coming out. The laptop that you get free is the worst of the worse laptops that we sell, I cant wait for the first customer to buy one then return it the next day because it "DUSNAE PLAY MA GAMES MAN".

Also orange are HORRIBLE providers (and I SHALL be telling my customers this, orange contract or not) and 24 months of ****** service is SO not worth it. The contract also states if you cancel before the 24 months is up you have to pay the balance. So cancel in the first month and enjoy your £359 bill and £50 cancellation fee.

so tell us the specs of the various laptops on offer with this deal

or is it £300 off any laptop in store?

it could be a good deal depending on what laptop you get, at the moment the details are too vague to make a good conclusion

also does the contract have any hidden holes, such as using more than 2GB a month incurs a penalty or a charge ect
banned#39
It is 300 of any but we have been told to concentrate on certain laptops.

Does anyone know if there is an option to sign up to the unlimited rather than the tiny 2 gig one?
