Free large jar of Marmite with Daily Mail at Iceland.

Take voucher to Iceland on friday only for 500g jar of marmite (worth £4.50)

Most of the Icelands are out of stock - if you really want this, I'd strongly advise to check the stocks, and if they have it, reserve it first before buying the paper.. But you need to be pretty desperate to do all this for saving £4!!

I'll get my coat..

The indignity of having to buy the Daily Mail to get this offer is just too much for me. You can have some heat though.

Did you know that the word "marmite" comes from the Old French for "hypocrite"?

Perfect for a Daily Mail offer...

But on the other hand aren't Tesco guilty of dictating prices to their suppliers? Milk anyone?

Don't think its the corporates being greedy though it maybe a minimal factor. The pound has completely tanked since Brexit vote. Buying almost anything will incur a greater cost to somebody as the pound has less value outside the UK- if not the customer, then the suppier/manufacturer. Fuel cost to transport goods (Made in the UK or outside) and raw goods if buying outside the UK costs will be higher as the pound is valued less. Maintaing the low prices we've been used to when the pound was where is was simply wont be sustainable. It's maths. Its ecomomics.

I, for one, am very pleased with Marmite-gate. It has opened my eyes today unto how incredibly ignorant some people are when it comes to commerce, international trade, and capitalism. Little Englanders truly are of little knowledge and understanding.

Don't remember unilver dropping their prices when the pound was strong. Or raising them last time it was weak. 100% politically motivated, not economically.

It is an undisputable fact that their profits will be much bigger for the same level of sales for most of these. These brands have annual sales of one billion euros or more:Axe / LynxBlue BandDermalogicaDoveFlora / BecelHeartbrandHellmann's and Best FoodsKnorrLiptonLuxMagnumOmoRexona / Sure / Degree / ShieldSurfSunsilkThe little bit of Marmite they sell is a drop in the ocean to them, but they are still trying to charge us more for it, unjustifiably so when the exchange rate gives them a massive pay day. I presume you work for them or are some sort of anti Marmite pro multinational food conglomerate troll.

But if the costs of production of Marmite in the UK have risen 10% why should they be expected to not make their customers pay 10% more? They have a legal responsibility to their shareholders to maximise their profitability.

Oh, so where does the oil, machinery, glass, plastic and cardboard packaging, used in the UK come from? Eaton? Ipswich? Peckham? Inner Manchester? Shrewsbury? Melton Mobray? Pickhill Thirsk?

Actually, I can't be bothered any more, You are a Little Englander and I claim my five pounds.

Could be wrong, but I think they scrape Marmite for free out from the bottom of the Bass brewery in Burton on Trent. It's just a by product. In my humble opinion, the Unilever price rises are opportunistic and not a consequence of Brexit.

But since a lot of sales are in €'s and $'s they just got a big bunch of extra profits for free from the exchange rate fluctuations. Sticking 10% on Marmite definitely still looks like pure greed.

    Unilever don't export much Marmite.

Costs of manufacturing and distribution in the UK have risen recently, in case you haven't noticed. The slump in the value of Sterling means that fuel, machinery, glass, plastic, cardboard packaging etc, etc, all imported, have risen by about 20% in price. These costs either have to be absorbed by manufacturers or passed on to consumers.

I'm reducing purchases of Unilever products in future because of their actions, and would do the same to any manufacturer acting this way
  28. InTheKnow444's avatar
Think Tesco came out on top in the eyes of the consumer, but I'd expect they'll both profit in the coming months when their "Secret" deal takes effect.

I'll just switch supermarkets to whoever has the best deals at the time.

It's looking increasingly possible that most of this stuff was deliberately removed from shelves either late yesterday or early this morning to limit the number of redemptions. Hardly anybody seems to have been able to find any - even first thing this morning.

Any Iceland staff in here with any evidence, either way, on this theory?
