I know there are several companies doing mobile fitting and RAC do breakdowns but this is new to me. I needed a couple urgently for a failed MOT and stumbled on this while hunting. I did find a few companies that will do tyres here but most seem very expensive in my area then stumbled on this.
Gave them a ring and they actually didn't seem to know much about it but after a check with someone else came back and booked an appointment then called back to sort the tyres I wanted out. For the record they could of come within 90 minutes but wasn't convenient.
I went for the cheapest as I'm selling the car in the next month, £60 a tyre for 17"/225/45 cheapos is very fair considering they come and do it on the drive and its RAC not Jo Bloggs. They did have a fair few others up to £160 a tyre.

Areas covered according to website, i'm in Warwickshire and they have me covered, we are sort of West midlands regionally but not from a county point of view so seems the list is not 100% strict. Asked the bloke and he said they will go anywhere within reason so probably fair to say north of Devon and South of Manchester should be covered.

West Midlands
Manchester
Northamptonshire
London
Leeds
Leicester
Bristol
Kent (M20 Corridor)
Gatwick

They will do it for non members £29.99 which I guess isn't that bad.

So you'll have to buy the tyre from RAC as well? £60 per tyre for cheapos are not really that cheap...

I paid £68 a tyre fitted for Goodyears from Black circles so this is definitely not a good deal at £60 for a budget tyre.

They supposedly do free fitting on batteries for RAC members to. They quoted me £100, I got exactly the same battery from eurocarparts for £40!

Just checked and I'm getting quoted £93 for the cheapest Goodyear and they can't fit till friday. I don't see the mobile delivery option only courier or fitting 15 miles away.

So from the battery and tyre examples, what we can conclude is that whilst they do not have an additional/separate charge for fitting, they have an inflated supply price that more than covers the cost of the supply and fitting.

Cold from me I'm afraid

I guess it depends on the brand and what they stock. Ive checked these tyres out and they are £55 on eBay. For a fiver more fitted I'm happy tbh.

Asda tyres will also beat any RAC quote on tyres, similarly with black circles.

That Goodyear is clearly a smaller tyre. Ive checked the site and its £93 + would have to drive to get it fitted.

The same tyre is on Asda for £75.

Looking from the outside in and trying to make sense of whether this is a deal or not, there appears to be a lot of conjecture as to what is real and what is not.

On that basis, still cold I'm afraid.

My suggestion (and you don't have to follow it) is to just list out some popular models/sizes and show how they compare to similar services. It would make it clear as to what the deal is basically!

I think some people are overthinking this.

Price wise for a 17" low profile tyre, they range from about £60-£160 a tyre. Price variation in the bottom end is fairly negligible between sellers and a lot will have a budget brand that not many will have as I guess thats where they get what they can. The higher end stuff will be most likely stocked by more companies and then its up to the individual to do some research, ring RAC and see what they've got.

What you've got to remember is

It is done by RAC, not some company you've never heard of and they come to your home, my days of chaving it up on the drive trying to fit a tyre with a bike pump and screwdriver are long gone. Other companies that will fit are regional so I would expect higher prices down south and lower up north + don't seem to do outside of the cities but RAC will be a solid price. They will come out same day not when they can fit you in and the service was honestly impeccable.

The only other local place I can find that will do a budget tyre and come and fit it is £60.94 per tyre and they have a slightly lower economy rating, again they can't do till monday.

I don't really care if not everyone thinks this is worth looking at, I'm sure for some there will be cheaper options but then for others there won't.

I had a quote from RAC for a tyre for my car, Pirelli P7, at £175 including mobile fitting. I'm a member btw. I looked online and got it done for £110, again including mobile fitting. I think the RAC are outrageously expensive.

I'm a bit suspicious as to whether they can balance wheels properly from these mobile vans.

I had this done last year i think it was June. The driver/fitter told me that it was a trial to see how it works and maybe they would expand depending on demand. He said that they would let him know if he was with or with out a job by September/November so if this is still going on then good for them. I got the cheapest one's they had i thinks its enduro x3 for £146 total.
