There's a bit about the router here: http://allyours.virginmedia.com/cgi-bin/formactions/existing_customer.pl

You ave to follow the clicks bur basically:

Add wireless broadband to your service with a Virgin wireless kit. If you need an adapter or laptop card to connect your computer to your Virgin wireless kit, you can select this below.
£40.00
one-off charge.
FREE
to existing non-broadband customers taking Broadband Size: L or XL.

i am on hold now to cust services cause i was told it is for new customers only..:x

result.. cancellations sorted it free router on its way but it was hard work

Thought about going down this route but already getting large BB for £17 - doubt they'll chuck in the router as well.
I already have a wireless router as well - I suppose it's one less box to power all day...
#9
i dont know the guy i was talking to said i was very well looked after already:) and then he had the cheek to say he had to pay for his router:p
#10
I got my bill reduced, first I asked and they said no, so I said ok, cancel my account. A few days later some guy phone me up and agreed to reduce me by 4 pounds a month.

So basically just make a threat at cancel, and if the idiot at the other end says no, then cancel. You will get a call a few days later from the retention dept.

I rang virgin up a few weeks ago because I wanted this router - they initially said it would be £40 so i hung up and went through ' if you wish to cancel please press blah blah ' spoke to an english customer services rep who said he would send it out just pay p & p - then it came - i realised - i needed the wireless usb adapter ( i assumed i was getting one - (one of my laptops is olddddd) but it wasnt inc. I simply rang up and they said ' oh we dont send those out with the router - you can buy them in pcworld for cheap or from us for £20 - hung up - said i want to leave again - cos now i have a router and still no access - (mentioning competitiors helps - like 3 broadband - they agreed to send it out!

then couple of weeks ago i bought a new dell laptop build in modem and sold me wireless netgear adapter for a tener on ebay :)

Just called Virgin as an exiting customer on telephone/TV XL & BB XL...
150 (free)...options..thinking of leaving us..select. Should take you to the retentions team but you might get customer service if the lines are busy...retentions team as mentioned by others is the way to go.

After security verification etc...

(Me) Good morning...I just read over the details on your website...I would like to cancel my account please as your website says that only new customers get the wireless router free...I pay you in advance so I will look around at other offers and might come back to Virgin. (Virgin) Ok lets see what we can do for you...we can send you the wireless router no problem no charge. (Me) ...and the USB adaptor? (Virgin) well that is not included but I can credit your account by £20 to cover the cost of one that you buy yourself...we have advised others that these can be picked up from Argos etc...even the dearest will not be more than £20 (Me) Yes that will do nicely:whistling: (Virgin) ok all done...router will be with you in 3-5 days. (Me) thank you bye:)

All very painless...hopefully for you as well:thumbsup:

Just been on to virgin, asked for router and usb dongle, spoke to a very nice chap who said they will be with me in 3 to 5 days and totally free not even postage to pay. It will show on my bill as £20 charge with £20 credit.
Thanks Louloo heat and rep added

can anyone confirm the model yet?
I've heard reports that sometimes these are restricted to only one wireless device at a time.

Thanks!

I just seen this and gave them a call, I've been paying £25 p/m and was about to buy a new wireless router(previous 1 packed in). Went straight to cancellations dept and told them wanted to cancel because another company(didnt give name) were giving me a free router, so she offered me free wireless router but told me I had to pay £7.50 P&P.

I told her I still wasn't happy as the other company wasn't charging me anything extra for P&P so she offered me 6 months discounted by £7 p/m and told me to register for ebilling and would get another £1 p/m off! So P&P working out 1 months discounted price :D

The ******s have locked me into a 12 month contract because I took the FREE router from retentions. No one from retentions mentioned this at the time they offered me the router. Now my price for 2meg has gone up from 10 pounds a month to 20! Looks like its going to work out very expensive getting the router off them
#32
the cheeky bar-stewards. mind you, that is quite typical that whenever they 'give' you something else, it is deemd as a contract renewal. you could try complaining that this was never specified by the customer service team...
#33
I think what they have done is unlawful and unenforcable - they told me that I have to either stay for 12 months from when i received the router or pay $40 for the router. I have told them that I'd like to return the router, but they say they can't! They should have told me the terms and conditions when they offered me the router, but the liars at VM didn't.
