I don't want one but it is a good deal as far as I can see so I'll vote HOT

You can often get the free directly from O2 if you include the quidco cashback - not sure if it's still the case but I got mine for £30 with £30 cashback and before that they were selling them for £15 with £15 cashback.

edit - just re-read your OP and you've already mentioned that - I assume thats why people are voting cold? Anyway I'ts early I'll shut up now and go and get breakfast :)

Do you have to keep topping this up every month or can you just keep about £20 on there to use over say 6 months?
#7
the tariffs on this aren't very good - you lose any existing credit after the 1day, 7day or 30 day period. Better off with a Vodafone, may be nore expensive initially but much more flexible.

Seconded. AFAIK Vodafone are the only ones whos top ups don't expire after 30 days.

EDIT : Appears I am now wrong and on vodafone £15 buys you 3GB with a 30 day expiry, unless you have one of the original SIMs which will continue to work on a 1GB never expiry basis.

I understood Vodaphone had shifted the goalposts & it's now #15.00 for 2 gig but only valid 30 days.

I'd like to be proved wrong 'cause I use a voda dongle (Very infrequently)

AFAIK any Vodafone dongle purchased through official channels after Christmas 2009 will be subject to their new style top up and go contract. This provides 3GB for £15 top-up BUT this expires after 30 days.

The older dongles still work on the 1GB, non-expiring top-up!

p.s. Voting deal hot, particularly if it's unlocked and I can buy a cheap 1GB old-style Vodafone sim off flea--bay.

i got the deal last week - paid £10 for dongle with £20 cash back and then topped up £15 which i should have got back via quidco but never tracked - beware that top ups dont track with quidco although it was stated by an op and not on the quidco website that your intitled to it ~ ( credit top up cash back that is not dongle cash back )
#12
What dongle is this? Is it unlockable?

If you buy one of these, unlock it and put the vodaphone sim in, how do you control it ?

i.e. the vodaphone ones come with a nice app that installs and gives you options for checking balance / connecting / disconnecting etc.

how would you do this with one of these and a Voda Sim ?

there is already a dashboard on the virtual cd rom on this dongle ...just plug , let it install
..installed dashboard is blue , the signal strength bar is a curved white bar to on the left side of the dash , shows a lot of other unnecessary info.. get a Tmob sim from £land & top £20 then send off a text message " 6MONTHWEB" to 441 .. gives you 6mth Internet access..did this for a mate @ fortnight ago
..anyway once fully set up the dash even tells /shows you all the O2 wifi hotspots
..set up another mates o2 dongle yest to use an orange data sim..doddle too.
..these O2 dongle are not locked by the way

There's a Vodafone Mobile Connect update on the Voda site. Not tried it, but it should flash the existing O2 connection manager to the VMC dashboard? If you already have VMC on your PC then just use that to connect. This has the advantage of being able to display your remaining PAYG balance.

so the existing voda app will accept the O2 dongle and control it as it it were a Vodaphone Dongle ?

I've flashed mine with Huawei software and the Vodafone connection manager accepts it as a Vodafone dongle.

dont happen to have a link do you ?

I assume my O2 Unlimited Web Bolt-on phone SIM would work ok in this? What happens when somebody tries to call or text? :)

I'm looking for a cheap mobile broadband solution for my sister.

can i get one of these for £4.95 and then she can stick in her mobile phone sim, which has web added on for £5 extra per month?

Would that work? I know she couldn't take calls whilst doing that but that's not too imortant.
#23
Definitely cheap, but no point trying to use O2 for Mobile Broadband, is this unlocked?

good deal

I use O2 without any issues. Have also used all the other carriers (apart from Orange) and haven't noticed a huge difference between any of them. I just have a SIM from each so i'm covered no matter where I am (incase I'm in a bad coverage area for one).

Texts come up on the software. This one can't do calls, although think they will ring.

Can i put my phone sim card in, as that has unlimited internet, rather than pay as you go?

if you have mobile partner dashboard with voice option which you can find using google install it your pc/laptop can work as normal mobile phone send me your email on PM and i will send you this mobile partner checking balance you can using on t-mobile texting ba to 150 straight from dashboard
if anyone knows short codes for checking balance or remaining usage you can use bookmark USSD (in operation menu at the bottom is box in which type, for example put normal o2 sim card (NOT mobile Broadband this one has blocked some options included voice) write *#10# and click send you will see balance, (*#1345# should works for vodafone simcard PAYG).
voice calling tested with e160 three UK phone simcard, e169 three UK broadband simcard, orange phone simcard

I would check the terms of her contract before doing that. Most of them state you can only use the web add ons with a mobile phone and NOT in a dongle or tethered to a PC.

In the case of the dongle they can easily tell from the IMEI what type of device the SIM is in. Even tethered they will have a fair idea from the amount of data you use.

They may not catch on or even bother you about it. But if they do, usually the terms of the contract state the standard charges apply if you use the SIM for anything other then browsing/etc on your phone. And given the standard charges and the amount of data you could chug using your PC you could get a nasty shock when your bill arrives.

I find it amazingly ironic considering that people often vote deals cold when they consist of a generous Quidco payment because "Quidco isn't guaranteed".

Yet here we are with an amazing deal price wise, the cheapest this dongle has ever been, but some people are still voting it cold because it doesn't include any "non guaranteed" cashback payments!

Slightly off topic but let me get this straight:

I can buy this from 02 for £10 or get it here for £4.95 then put my 02 Simplicity Sim with Unlimited Web Bolt On in the dongle and browse the web using my laptop without any charge / expiry date?

(Sorry but it seems too simple/cheap)

YES you can

it is no difference between using mobile phone modem built in this phone and this usb dongle it is like mobile phone without display, keyboard, speakers and microphone.
usb dongle can receive text even if is not connected via dashboard, everybody can check it when blue led appear on dongle text on number which is in it

tried to order but they have to phone me back after systems failure - after taking all my personal details.

You sure about voice on the E160? What software version is it on?

Because I've checked several E160's and none of them worked with voice (even with correct partner software, etc).

If your quick you might get one of the old SIMs on ebay - just picked one up today for £7.50...

Get a FREE T-Mobile SIM which you top up £10 a month and get unlimited data AND texts.

just tried to order mine but system is down :(

The best thing about this is FREE cloud internet in hotels like holiday inn etc. Im using it now - its great! Havent even topped up and the dongle isnt needed - all you need is the mobile number of the sim that comes with the dongel and imput that into o2 cloud system. Then use laptop wifi free! :)
