I am on a 12 month contract paying £35 per month ( nothing after quidco and cashback thanks to HUKD )

I had a phone call yesterday offering me FREE orange broadband and router or UNLIMITED broadband and router for £5 per month.

This is on a NO CONTRACT BASIS ( whilst having the orange contract phone )

I would really like to know what you all think of Orange and whether it's worth it or not?

I've had free unlimted broadband from orange for the last year (my area only allows 2mb) and had no problems i received a wireless router/hub thingy :) this has saved me £14 per month which is always a good thing.

Thank you bryan839 did you have any problems setting it up? Was the router ok?

I also use the £5/month unlimited deal and am certainly not complaining at £5/month with the reliability/performance. I don't get near the 8MB speed (despite the fact that I should be able to) but I'm not sure I would with other providers either!

Thanks brist1uk I must admit £5 a month MUST be better than the £19.99 a month I am paying AOL?

I had my line checked with orange who assured me I should run at 6.1Mb which is quicker than I am with AOL i think..........

So it's changed now?

Rolling broadband contract free/subsidised for 12month contract holders now?
Not so bad, if the broadband works I suppose

Some Orange customer feedback (as a company fixing and solving problems is worth a million customers getting what they paid for):

I do not know whether its changed for everyone, maybe you have to talk to them to get the "no contract" deal I can only post what I was offered ( and make sure I read through any paperwork I get VERY carefully, i suppose )
#11
Retention broadband offer then?

Are you outside your mobile contractual period?

No, I have just started a 12 month contract with Orange
#13
Which mobile tariff?
Were you previously an Orange customer?
#14
i have it and have had it for 16 months now. No problems with the wireless router or download speed. Their customer service is ok, but their technical support is terrible - often kept waiting 10-15 minutes minimum before getting through to somebody in India who doesn't understand you. so you usually have to call 2 or 3 times before getting your problem solved.
If you have any problems, make sure you use "www.saynoto0870.com" to get an 0800 or landline number instead of the 0870 helpline they have. Or call 150 from your mobile as it's also free!

But for free broadband, you can't knock it!

"Dolphin 35" I think its called 300 mins 400 texts
No I was not with orange b4 its a total new contract

Looking at:
http://www.orange.co.uk/time/broadbandaccess/

It seems Orange are doing phoneline PSTN/POTS and broadband service now too which can be a nightmare and result in weeks offline with neither service should you want to leave them or go elsewhere.

I'm assuming you never moved your BT Phone service to them, but I wonder if that is their intent eventually etc hence this new offer.
#17
You can just call 150 > option 2 for broadband support, for free.
#18
unfortunate about the worst possible ratings in the internet market. few people get great performance, but from the reviews seems majority are unhappy.

Ignoring the broadband for a moment Orange just offered me a 2 month free trial for evening and weekends web access via my mobile phone, there's no charge for fair use after 7pm and before 7am in the week and all weekend I get free browsing too. you only pay if you use it between 7am and 7pm, but I am at work or asleep most of this time so I wouldn't think I need to use it much when you have to pay for it!

If you cancel after that 2 month period there's no charge but if you carry on there's a £5 fee per month and you pay in both cases if you use the internet between 7am and 7pm on weekdays, the cost varies per MB depending on how much you use it that month I think.

There's currently a large bug/flaw in their LLU rollout, which as you can see here:
http://www.hotukdeals.com/forums/showpost.php?p=1058246&postcount=124

Can be very frustrating.

But when it works, at this subsidised price, I did like it unfortunately.

But like all big companies, BT, TT-AOL/Pipex Bulldog/SkyBB etc, cheap support = cheap solution to problems, they were happy to have me leave once I kicked off... :)

This broadband retention

Your off peak offers

Their new PSTN combo voice phone line service.

Looks like a nice and planned attack to counter the O2 Broadband combo offers coming on October 15th :)

I have Orange BB for 15 months now - no serious problems (not like Bulldog I had before). I am on rolling contract since they launched Unlimited package last October - managed to haggle this when upgrading from Max.
Don't forget for 5£ you get BB, free 247 uk calls and free landline calls to 100 countries!! No other provider is so generous and you can't beat that.
CS sometimes hard to get through - but from Orange mobile 150 its free and you can't beat that too :)

I have the same thing at the moment. I have already cancelled the £5 a month option but, as you say, it's free for a couple of months anyway...

Does anyone know how "unlimited" this actually is? I've read that they have a 40GB monthly limit as part of their fair usage policy...

40gb isn't official, their CS quote it sometimes but it's been broken by orders of multitude without problem.

If you're on their LLU (www.samknows) they won't care

Their main concern is the network is decent during 6pm to 11pm so expect downloads to be crippled during this time and you're encourage not to download during that time.

Im just coming to the end of a 12 month contract paying £5 a month after getting a contract with cash back from e2save.

Even though it cost me £5 a month ive had issues about reliability. I linked at 6mbps second, but this varies considerably throughout the day suggesting poor infrastructure. Also, i suspect throttling of the connection on moderate use.
#27
I would ask Orange, if they can and understand, to increase the noise margin profile for your line to a higher one, it'll decrease the speed probably to 5mbit, but should provide a more stable line, sometimes the default profiles on lines can be too lenient for lines with more interference so need stricter parameters.

Whether Orange will do this and help you is something else entirely.

Try it, see what happens, if nothing, consider pacing and macing :) over to O2 mobile and O2 Broadband later this month

Hi Guys my first input to hotukdeals, im with orange £10 per month and it is painful, i live 30 meters from the exchange, and would be capable of over 10 MB, but "orange 8MB" give 1MB, and have tried to get it resolved, after talking to half of India and the north of England, im stuck with them, and cant wait to leave

I would think twice and look how they stand on the link below

but as the deal goes no contract £5, sounds good however you pay for what you get

i used to have contract phones with orange and then got the broadband and i had nothing but problems since i joined with them. always promising but never delivered on the broadband. it took 2 months to sort out the problems with the broadband and then wasn't reliable so i have now ditched both. Broadband is just as bad as BT. voted cold im afraid

Are you sure you're trunked to the exchange thats nearby?

Is that what the availabilty checker on www.samknows.com tells you?
Also is your line underground/damaged/badly patched that you know of?

Not that I'm sticking up for Orange but your situ sounds odd.

I am getting the feeling that it's not such a good idea. I mean I know its only £5 per month but, thinking about how much I use the internet, I am inclined to stick with the reliable service of AOL. Thank you for all your help input and help guys..............
