I took out Vodafone's £10/month 30 day rolling contract about 2 months ago. For this I got 100 minutes and 500 texts, which is one of the better deals out there. However, I discovered that if you upgrade from this to a 12 month contract you can get a free phone and keep your current price plan. So, assuming you are on the Vodafone £10/month 30 day contract, Vodafone's online system allows you to upgrade to a new phone in the last 70 days of your contract, so technically you are, like myself, eligible. So if you login to your online account, there should be a link under 'My products and plans' called 'Upgrade my phone'. Click this link and fill in the details required. Then ,once on the upgrade site, click the link on the left hand side saying 'Upgrade my phone'. Select the '12 month' option at the top of the list of phones and you should see a number of phones, including the HTC Magic, listed as being free. Add it to your basket and it should show no cost for the phone with the all-important phrase 'Your existing price plan' underneath. So by committing to £120 worth of contract you should be getting a phone worth £350 + VAT (according to Vodafone themselves) and your minutes and texts.

The phones available for free include:
Samsung Jet
BB Storm
SE C905
HTC Magic
BB Bold
Samsung Tocco Ultra
BB 8110
Nokia 5800
SE C902
Samsung Lucido
BB Curve
Samsung Blade
Samsung U700
Nokia 6300
SE C510
SE W595
Nokia 6210
SE W715
Nokia N97 (£63.25 on 12 month)

Good luck and I'm here to help should it be needed :)

EDIT: See post 10 for evidence

EDIT #2: You should be able to get £15 Quidco online for the SIM-only deal, making your potential losses, at worst, £5.

EDIT #3: Quote from rmg:

Hi, I can confirm that I have just done this.

Currently on 30 day 100+500.

Upgraded to N97 for 12 months on existing tariff for 63.25.

Went through quidco as well.

What a deal, thx a million to the OP.

Yeah I did this last week - worked fantastic for me
The minutes and Texts are 100 minutes 500 texts, which, considering the free phone, is pretty good

So your saying if I buy a SIM only plan, next month I can upgrade?

The Magic sells for £220+ on eBay, which means your looking at about £200 back, whereas the 12 month contract is only £120...

Yeah, it seems silly but if Vodafone are going to leave such a massive loophole it's going to be used :whistling:

Well you could take out the SIM-only contract, try to upgrade and if you can't just cancel it (it's 30 day if you do not upgrade)

Seeing as the initial contract we have to take out is only a 30day rolling one, does that mean we are eligible for upgrade straight away then? (or at least wait a few days after receiving the sim pack) :)

Well I waited a month or two, simply because I never realised I could upgrade. But perhaps you could do it straight away... I'm not sure tbh
#16
If someone who is on a SIM-only deal atm could get a screenshot of the upgrade page, this would be awesome (I can no longer access it as I'm not due an upgrade until next May now)

So are you saying you can upgrade as soon as ?

Or do i have to wait for a certain period of time.

Im going France for 4 weeks on Friday so i might so go for one of these anyway as they have no roaming charges

Well I'm not sure as the only reason I waited was because I was unaware of the upgrade website at the time. As I said before, if it doesn't work you can cancel with 30 days notice

This sounds smoking:thumbsup:

You could go into the store and get the SIM-only contract, but it might be wise to wait a few days just to avoid awkward questions from Vodafone

Quidco is at £20 for the rolling contract.. - http://www.quidco.com/vodafone/

In theory yes. This has worked for me with the HTC Magic so I don;t see why it shouldn't work for you. There's little risk on your part if it doesn't work, as the most you will be paying is £20 for two months of contract before you cancel. :)

1) They will most likely try and up-sell you onto a higher monthly cost contract since they make commission. As such they could refuse the upgrade regardless of whether you kick up a fuss etc.

2) This might alert Vodafone to this loophole (assuming it's one they're not aware of) and thus remove it.

£15 for the £10/month one, so you are cutting your losses even more :)

I think you would at least have to wait until the contract was confirmed and you had registered the sim ...and perhaps use it?...and by the time you have done that every man and his dog will have registered and bye bye loophole :whistling:

I wouldn't upgrade the price plan if I were you. When I upgraded, it was offering me the same number of texts and minutes for £25/month if, I quote, was 'happy with my current phone'. :?
