Seems really good. Did some checking and Bristol Sony stores have HX803 listed as £1169 (£995 after the VAT back).

Plus your getting the glasses and transmitter worth further £250.

Plus the PS3 worth another £250!

Plus GT5!

Well worth comparing or contacting Sony stores first Bath had same tv listed at £1319 for example!

Sony stores are franchised out so prices of sets may vary as they can charge what they like to make their margins.

when does this deal expire?

also which is better, 40hx803 or 40nx713(the nx713 is ~£120 more expensive and has built in wifi while the hx803 would require a wifi dongle/wired ethernet connection for the internet feature)?

also how is £995 vat free price? isn't 17.5% of 1169 204.58 so vat free should be £964.43?

I almost got a samsung led tv back in march during their cheaque back offer, in the end decided to hold off for 3d tvs. tempted by this but as I don't have a job parents would kill me :(

id go for the nx713 much nicer looking set and a much newer pannel, 100hz is enough for me

Do they do finance at Sony? I really want a 3D tv and this seems a fantastic deal but I also can't afford the cash price. I am looking at a buy now pay later deal.

no the correct equation is £1169 x 7 / 47 gives you the vat ammount. which actually works out to 994.90

sounds like a good deal though.

Personally I think these active shutter glasses are useless. Went into sony centre a month ago and saw trailers for Resident Evil after seeing it in the cinemas before (amazing 3d film btw) and looked no better, maybe even a little worse.

1169 / 1.175 might be a bit easier to understand.

A common misconception. 1169 is equal to 117.5% of the cost of the item.

In a couple of years time, these TVs will be obsolete as 3D TV technology gets better. It happened with HD too. The original HD TVs are now awful. I would save your money.

In a couple of years we'll probably all be living on the moon. Hasn't stopped me buying a house on earth for now though.

Why would we live on the moon? We would atleast live on mars after bringing plant life over etc.

For those who are interested (in what is essentially a fantastic deal), Sony centres are able to price match. I contacted my local branch and quoted the Bristol price and they agreed to match it even though instore shows £1299.

I also managed to get a 3rd set of 3d glasses for £50 and the guy advised me that if you register with sony, you get a games bundle including wipeout 3d and a few other games.

Brilliant, heat added :)

I agree with your calculation.

The price of the TV without VAT is unknown (call it x).

x + VAT = 1169
so, x + (x * 17.5/100) =1169 or 1.175x=1169
therefore
x=1169/1.175 or x=994.89

So the original price of the tv was 994.89.
Check this by now adding VAT to the original price

994.89 + (994.89 * 17.5 / 100) = 1169
whereas
964.43 + (964.43 * 17.5 / 100) = 1133.21

I agree with your calculation.

For those averse to algebra...

You're not calculating the VAT amount on £1169 (which is the VAT inclusive price), you're calculating it on the price BEFORE VAT (ie. the VAT exclusive amount). 17.5% of the price with the VAT already factored-in is obviously going to be more than 17.5% of the price before VAT.

1169 / 1.175 = 994.89 (price before VAT)

17.5% of 994.89 (994.89 x 0.175) = 174.11 (VAT on 994.89)

994.89 + 174.11 = 1169.00 (price incl. VAT)

Ah - but Fowler002 doesn't say he/she agrees about the VAT, he/she says that they agree with the calculation - which is technically true as the calculation is 17½% of 1169.

It's Bobo who is agreeing with something
The whole premise of the argument is the price before VAT. In the absence of any explicit exclusions it's fair to assume that in agreeing with the calculation Bobo accepts the argument being made.

Besides, my response was merely a demonstration of the correct calculation in an effort to assist the understanding for all. It was not intended as any sort of corrective measure to anyones post.

Thanks for playing.

So does this bundle come with the 5 year warranty? if so doesn't it make it better value than the 'JL' offer? as it will work out the same price after VAT, kind of confused!

Not algebra to me. a + 3 = 17 ---> algebra in my mind
