Did this about a year ago. I would recommend it to anyone. They will fit smoke alarms wherever necessary - ie. if you either don't have them or have them in the wrong places
#2
Would recommend this to everyone. We didn't actually book an appointment with them, the firemen knocked on our door one night.

Asked us some questions like do we smoke, do we have a chip pan (who would have a chip pan now when you can have an Actifry), did we have a window that opened wide upstairs, that type of thing. Then they fitted two smoke alarms, one upstairs and one downstairs. It only took about 10 minutes.

What a great service for FREE too.

because the best chips are cooked in a traditional deep pan with lard, not the ****** chips done in plastic container with oil

I was meant to phone these guys today but i forgot until i seen this ;)

Quick question that maybe one of you can answer before they do, this house has a smoke alarm system already set up, theres 3, one in the lving room, one at the top of the landing and one in the attic, they all seem to be linked up to eachother with wires, will they sort this and take them away, only reason i dont use them is ive lost one of them while decorating, the other 2 think there is something wrong with the missing one and are constantly bleeping :x

Thanks

Yeh and if you tell them you haven't got a muster point they move you to a bigger house with a big garden so that you can congregate in it should you have a fire.:-D

no. they're hard wired smoke alarms. if you ask nicely they will put up new alarms and you can turn the hard wired ones off at the mains. if they're beepin they're faulty. open one and if it has a battery in (some have batterys in as back up in case your electricity is out) then its done and replacing the batteries will stop them beepin!!

My g/f booked this 18 months ago and they finally turned up last week. G/f was at work at the time and I was home so I had to sit there through an hour of their rattling on about wiring, escape routes, etc., about which anyone with a bit of common sense would already be aware. still, a free smoke alarm's a free smoke alarm. heat added (if you'll excuse the pun).
#14
they are spot on, they must consider PCs a fire hazard, coz they put a smoke alarm in every room I have a PC, ended up with 5 free smoke alarms. . I also think if you have **** smoke alarms they replace them with fresh ones with a 10 year battery life. . . and all for free. . .

That sounds like a good idea (10year battery) considering most people forget to replace the batteries in the smoke alarm

I am a fireman and we doa lot of HFRA visits. We aim to locate ten year alarms to replace those older one year ones. If the house has old type then we would normally put a new one at the top and bottom of the stairs. We usually leave the old alarms with the owners as there is nothing wrong with them so you may choose to use them in a bedroom, garage or office etc.

Always rememebr that firemen love fresh cream cake and tea!!! We take the lorry with us so the kids can have a play too!

If you want one of these visits (they are free) pop into your local fire station and ask them about it. It is a huge part of our job today so you are not putting us out at all.

A working smoke alarm can and, believe me DOES save lives. Don't reply on hearing a fire because at night you probably wouldn't. The alarm gives you the valuable minutes needed to get you and your family out. This is the most important bit

I beg your pardon, you had 3!!!! Blimey Charlie, your a game girl arn't you.;-)

Sorry to hear that it was such a bore for you. For someone with the common sense that you talk about...I wouldn't have thought that you needed an alarm??

If you just want an alarm but don't need advice because you know it all, just ask for one and then you won't waste our time either.

Anyone in the Merseyside area can also get this service.

hmmmmm lemme see... a free smoke alarm fitted by firemen in uniform....

wheres the OMGTHATSSOHOTTTTTT button?

great offer, one that all people should take up. i had a check a few months back and had the 10 year alarm fitted. had one ( majorish) problem though, steam from the shower would set the thing off :(. in the end i had to remove the alarm as hearing it every morning while in the shower was a little annoying.

will deffo give them a call again though, hopefully will be able to get a water proof one lmao.

Can I just point out to people that I had this done and was so pleased with the service. Had it installed last November. I had the council out yesterday to do a gas safety check thing and they saw it and nearly condemned us! They sent someone straight out to remove it and put their own branded one in. I would have asked if he was trained to install them but wasn't in at the time. So if you live in a council house and they find out, they WILL come and take it out and put their own one in. They even had the councils name on it so that they knew it was theirs. Coucil house, council smoke alarm is what they said. I think it's shocking!

great service, its refreshing to see something positive like this done for free

prevention is better than cure i guess!

You reckon if I gave him a diet coke instead of a cream cake and tea he'd strip to the waist like they do in the ad?

I hope my la senza order arrives by then.

We had this done recently and it was nice to get some advice on our fire risks. The only thing was that they turned up in a fire engine... we were shocked to see this big red fire truck pull up outside the house with 3 firemen getting out of it just to fit a smoke alarm!

What must the neighbours think!!

Even though its good they do this , i would feel way to embarrassed to call fireman out just to fit smoke alarms ,they are cheap and easy to put up , plus what happens if someone really needs help but there to busy fitting smoke alarms??

Wouldnt like it if my home was on fire and the fireman were a few mins late cause of fitting smoke alarms but that couple of mins wasted could of saved my home or life

Yes i know they would stop what there doing and go to my home , but what if the home there fitting alarms to is even futher away from my home then the fire station?

I can understand old people or people with disability using this service , but i cant understand why anyone else would ,another waste of tax payers money yet again.

Can just see it now , fire engine pulls up and all neighbours come running asking me is my home on fire , and i turn round and say no im having smoke alarms fitted :w00t:

Whilst i somewhat agree with what you have said, i would think about using this service not because of the free smoke alarms but to get an experts opinion on the best places to place such detectors and be made wary of ppotential hazardous hotspots in the house, that normal non qualified people may not be aware of. I mean they are essentially doing this so that they dont have as many fires, so they are not called out as much and not as many people die.... its also an investment in their future call outs and a way to limit them.

Sorry to jump on this thread, but when I saw the word fireman I had to join in. I've always wanted an excuse to get a fireman round to the house, but 3!?.

They can talk to me as long as they want about fire safety, and they can have as many cream cakes and tea as they wanted!.

I had some alarms fitted by the lovely firemen a few month ago and yes they pulled up with their firetruck...my sons primary school gave the information out about having alarms fitted and gave us all a number to call...They came to fit them when they were not busy...all the firemen came incase they had a fire to go to but i got some great tips from them and it saves sat in the firestation all day if that's what they do...they were out in the community...To be honest i didn't expect them turning up in the firetruck but it was a nice surprise
