The free laptop offer from AOL Broadband launched in September 2007 is continuing and has been expanded. The latest offer is a free Sony PlayStation 3, for those signing up to AOL Broadband Wireless Plus.

Of course, something like a PS3 for free does come with some conditions. The service has a 24 month contract and requires you to sign up to an AOL Talk call plan (the Pay As You Go Plan is included in the £19.99 bundle). For those not in an area that AOL has unbundled the monthly fee increases by £10.

One possible source for confusion is the wording "Yours to keep forever * Provided you are provisioned with AOL Broadband". This refers to the 24 month contract period, and means so long as you keep your broadband with AOL Broadband, you get to keep the PS3 after the 24 months.

I think this is better than the laptop deal. But I still only want the broadband without the Talk Pay as you go thing.

Numerous people have previously posted an AOL broadband silver (2MB) retention contract at £9.99 for 12 months. I opted for their alternative for a free wireless router at £14.99 for 12 months. The laptop offer was available to existing customers so I guess the same applies for the PS3. Either way, AOL wanted an additional £10 per month for the upgrade on a 2 year contract.

10 x 24 months = £240 + delivery charge at £14.99 = £254.99

Some existing customers claimed they were offered or negotiated a 15 month upgrade/offer contract but if it's a 24 month contract only, then to me it doesn't sound like a hot deal if it's going to cost me an extra £254.99

Voted warm!

AOL has to be the worst broadband provider out there, had a full year of hassel from them :x

this is good if you work for a small business and need a phone and broadband package and you can persuade your boss that you can keep the ps3

I feel the same way about Tiscali!

I feel AOL have deteriorated but I've found their service reliable and secure and I like using their browser. AOL have the most effective spyware protection available which is free for AOL members. However, I'm not happy about customer service reps who can hardly speak English and at an extremely slow pace. The unnecessary pauses are admittedly is very, very irritating. Maybe I'll change provider one day but you can usually negotiate the price down if you threaten to leave.

Does anyone know if Tiscali still charge 50p per minute for phone in customer service?

Yeah, I hate 0870 numbers but few IPs don't use them. I didn't think Tiscali could continue to get away with charging 50p per min. It has been a few years since I left Tiscali.

BT landline calls to AOL who now use a 0844 number costs no more than 5p a minute. Not good enough as calls to CS used to be free with AOL. I usually email them now.

[SIZE=2]As for those moaning about 0870 customer service numbers, just use: 0117 9191100 or 0117 3299100 mentioned on saynoto0870.

COLD not called AOhell for nothing. Was with them and they were bloody great until the craphone *****house took over. Left and glad I did as the complaints went up, service took a massive nose dive and peak time surfing was pointless.
