For those of you who have been eagerly anticipating the arrival of the PlayStation phone this may be the deal for you..

The new Sony Ericsson Xperia Play is available free from Phones 4u on T-Mobile for £25.53
This includes:
600mins
500texts
500mb data (monthly flexible booster)
(24mnth contract)

I’ve also noticed that Quidco has increased for this particular handset to £60 so..

Total deal cost:
£25.53 x 24  = £612.72
Minus £60 = £552.72
£552.72/24 = effective cost £23.03pm.

I know there’s been a lot of speculation over the stock levels of this particular handset, but after a bit of snooping around on the web I’ve found confirmation that Phones 4u do have these in stock, and are sticking with their plan of dispatching orders today.

This could be the perfect deal for any console addicts out there like me, who want the latest gaming smartphone at a decent price, with no messy redemption claims and no waiting around for extra stock to appear.

That's... pretty good... :)

Decent, wonder what the battrey will be like though...
#3
Reviews seem generally good but the screen in outdoor use seems to be an issue according to all the online reviews.
Tempting though.

Anyone actually got one? I'm really torn about waiting for the Atrix, getting an LG 2x or being boring and getting a desire s... this is on the periphery as a consideration (got a PS3, but not a Sony fanboy by any stretch...)

I think the Atrix will be on a different level to this.
But saying that often things are so hyped when you get the is a disappointed.
Nokia n97 comes to mind.

I had an N97...

Sad times.

It's best to avoid this phone. It's supposed to be very glitchy and Engadget said the screen is one of the worst they have seen on a smartphone. O2 and Three have refused to stock it until Sony sort out the issues with it.

The Engadget review is inaccurate (basic facts are wrong, such as the RAM) and totally biased. Read the comments on Engadget. That site has lost a lot of credibility in recent months.
here is a better review.

Very interested in this phone. Read lots of reviews from the fanboys to the haters. It's the first of the gamer phones - if you're a gamer you're gonna like it probably. It's not for everyone. Like all tech, better versions will appear but if you're always waiting for the next best thing, you'll never get your hands on anything.

While quidco is available at £60.00 this is a good deal, tho not guaranteed blah blah blah. You can get it slightly cheaper overall if you go with 300mins/texts, just depends on your preference of paying a bit up front or paying more to spread it out.

Anyway, I've given heat.

edit: Now I'm stuck between saving £50ish overall and going for the 300 min/text. With quidco it's £503.63 for 24 months... hmmms.

2 year contract? SE will stop supporting this thing long before then.

Yes but with quidco you can get a £500 over 24 months costing about £500 - I think that was the point of the deal. Not it's contract length.

I'm excited about getting this phone now :-)

Argos pay as you go only £499.99 orange.

I wasn't even aware that there was a playstation phone but have ordered for other half as his current contract is almost up. Heat added, thanks...

been waiting & waiting for this phone (my iphone 3G contract ends may) but couldnt wait any longer!

decided to order this now rather than waiting for my contract to end as i'll get the £60 quidco (which ends in 4 days) so that'll pay to finish off my o2 contract.

anyone know if you can use the internet booster straight away? or do you have to wait 30 days before changing it? (info seems to point to it automatically being set at unlimited texts)
also whats the chance this is unlocked?
& does this include VAT? cant see anywhere to say that it doesnt

Edited By: quidditys_shore on Apr 03, 2011 22:57: vat

I kinda assumed that it does include VAT with the funny pricing - as in not bothered to change the pricing structure since the 2.5% rise - which is why it's £25.53, could be wrong tho.

The Quidco was the deal breaker for me to. But it hasn't tracked yet.

On delivery, I got an email yesterday (Sunday) saying it'll be delivered next working day - not sure if that means today (Monday). We'll see, injured myself at the weekend anyway so I will be in all week - least I have a new toy to play with :-) Shame I'll miss a weeks wage in helping to pay for it tho :-(

I actually went for the LG Optimus 2x excellent phone, this is last years hardware with a gamepad, NOT worth it at all considering that PS Suite is coming to tegra devices later on in the year.

I think it'll be Android Market for regular touchscreen games that are on most Android phones, but PS Store for ones that support the controller keypad.

Looks like a nice bit of kit. Unless the screen is OLED it won't really perform outside in direct sunlight. This is to be expected. My desire is crap outside but usable ... try using a PSPGo outside and I think you'll find it's not great either.

iPad is awful outside.. gadgets just aren't real outside performers unless you start putting blinkers or anti-glare screens in them which just isn't viable.

Hmm, let's see if Paul can root these bad boys. I doubt it will lead to running your own .cso/.iso PSP games as it will have modified headers or something but having said that piracy is pretty mainstream with Android.

they took off psx emulator as soon as this released so people have to buy via sony. Don't matter. Megadrive & SNK emulator will do. I'm using an X10 at the moment so I'm glad the Xperia Play has a camera flash (x10 didnt)
#23
I was considering the play but read mixed reviews. Decided to go for the arc instead as it seemed like a better all-round phone and also the NGP is coming out end of year for gaming..
#24
go to a shop and test one for yourself.. reviews are never as good as a hands on.
#25
I did, I tried the arc, the play and the optimus 2x. The 2x was nothing special especially since it only runs 2.2, and the arc beat the play for the reasons I've already given
#26
@dicksteel18,

Yes I went into P4U and tried the Play, Arc and O2X... Was very impressed with the Arc screen and form factor, VERY NICE!

Only shame is its not dual core.... for that reason I think i'll go for the O2X.. 2.3 will soon be out for it and with the dual core it will go beyond that too...

They need to announce some more games for it

Can you use your PSN account with these?

Good deal thought but I don't like T-mobile. I've order mine somewhere else on Orange.

I'm really surprised people are actually buying this, you might as well get a PSP and a cheap phone and you'll get a better library of games with a better screen size for 400 bucks less.

Now if this were the NGP that'd be a different story..

Read today to expect further delays in the NGP because the Northern Japanese Sony plant has been closed for repairs - something about bad weather.

But how many people carry two devices around with them? I know I don't. Like when camera phones first came out - why not buy a good camera and cheap phone? And as has been said before - when the NGP comes out they'll be something else around the corner that has already made it obsolete.

To me, it's the way the product is executed. This looks like it has been done well. Good gaming pad (for a phone) with potential to unlock a good archive of sony games that are very playable. Might not be the best graphics or the highest tech, but it's not all about the size of your package.

That's crazy dude. Most people can really only carry 1 device. The Xperia Play is a camera, phone, android app player and a gaming machine all in one. It looks great for emulation and looks a brilliant all in one device. I agree it is too expensive at the moment, but when it comes down, I will get it for sure. My PSP and NDS don't leave the house because I can really only take one device with me, and that has to be a phone. Which means I actually play more games on my Iphone than on my proper handheld gaming devices. This is where the Xperia Play wins!

Had mine for the last hour. Been using HTC the past 18 months so not used to Sony Ericsson's UI but it's all pretty simple if you've used smart phones before. Pre-installed games run quick and great. Touch screen keyboard is good enough for my fat fingers. Joy pad is comfortable enough but when I was holding it at first, part of my fat index finger pressed and held and power button, think I was holding a little too tightly but after loosening my grip it felt easier to hold and easier to play the games.

Browsing is very quick and responsive - but just been running on good wifi so far, feels satisfying to scroll. As well does the slide out joy pad. I'd say it's a little heavier than what you might expect but I think that might add towards making the joy pad easier to hold.

After 1 hours use 8/10.

As for phones4U. They got my address wrong on the package - basically not enough spaces on the sticker so that is why it didn't come yesterday but the post person knows me so he figured it out at the sorting office for them.
