I noticed a small sign in my local subway which said that firemen, paramedics and police which are wearing their uniform are able to get 10% off during the week & on friday & saturday night they can get free hot drinks.

It was in a subway in Southampton near the Solent uni, so I'm unsure whether it is the case in all stores but there's no harm in asking....?!

Those serial cold voters out again!!! This is a great deal (although I cannot benefit from it).

Have a little heat

I thought it was a really good 'deal' as I know if I was a polic officer on a friday or saturday night i'd want lots of coffee!!!!

This is a brilliant idea!! Gr8 going Subway.. now if only they'd fly the flag (union jack) on all fire trucks and ambulances!! They do the stars and stripes in the US, and it looks soo good, you can see the americans wear their flag with pride.. its a shame it isint looked upon like that here!!
#6
Nice idea! Why pay a security guard, during weekend nights, when you can just invite some uniforms over for a drink.
#7
Nothing for painters and decorators :>(

Its only the union jack if it is on a boat at sea. On land it is the union flag

"They do the stars and stripes in the US"

With the utmost respect, yes the sheeple do whilst their countrys getting robbed by the people in power, bank vaults being cleared out out by the few rich and powerful and then tax money used to fill it back up, the federal reserve is a private organisation and the US is in debt to them, just google bilderberg group ot trilateral commision...They run everything :w00t: Dont listen to me I probably sound a bit out hehe but do your own research...

BUT our NHS staff and Firemen and Paramedics should be treated like royalty with all the lives they save and the passion they display in their jobs...The system is really rotten, we should pump money without question into the NHS especially instead of invading other countries for their oil and gas reserves under false pretences just to maintain economic stability of the west....

Interesting watch but be careful as it will open your mind and burst your safe bubble...Red pill or Blue pill your choice lol http://www.zeitgeistmovie.com/

Why should unemployed people get given free things? Surely that's an incentive not to work? Giving emergency service a hot drink at the weekends is a generous thing to do, especially when there is no need to.

Any subway open on a saturday night is near a town centre, it's not far from where the services are going to be (well police and ambulance anyway).

Hot deal (literally) for those that can get it.

And yeah there are a few smug coppers, but the majority are decent people, perhaps just get a little fed up of drunken tw*ts who can't handle their beer on a night out trying to cause trouble.
#18
I am sure that all 3 of the services will be required when the trainee enters 30 mins instead of 30 seconds and the huge toaster explodes!

I think that Subway hopes that some services might take business to them en-mass instead of using their provided cafeterias. Imagine if they get 25 orders from the police, the franchise owner would be well happy, unless they all go for the 79p choices.
#19
This is a policy that Subway endorse but is up to the Franchisee as to whether they adopt.

The Subway I used to work for used to do endorse this and the owner actively advertised to the services. They gave a free hot drink for any emergency services any time of day. Reason behind it being partially charitable / kind hearted but also that it looks good to have respected people in the stores.

A hot drink costs very little to supply but it's a commercially sensible and generous thing to do. Thumbs up from me.

Oh...cant wait to go to my local subway now...love a man in uniform ;-)

Hope this offer includes physio's?? We can have a PARTTEEEEE...lol.

Thanks Scooby555...we NEVER get treated like royalty...but love the idea!

As for being able to afford tea and coffee on our wages...just about...and trust me without caffeine...the NHS would grind to a halt ;-)

Way to go Subway!

This has to be the most stupid debate on here, the long and short whether you like them or not the emergency service do a great job and for very little money, so if a company wants to support them by offering free stuff what the hell is is for us to tell them not too.

It`s a hot for me, despite not being any of the above.
#22
Hot deal and the heroes deserve all the freebies/utmost respect

(watching all the awful things that drunks and thugs do to policemen and paramedics/nurses in hospitals makes you angry - the worst are the arsonists who call out firemen so they can chuck bricks at them)

Why should Employed people , get given things free they receive a salary which should cover things such as this.

What about Bus drivers, Long distance lorry drivers, shelf stackers... I am certain that a free coffee would be as much appreciated by those people as it is by a tired policeman.

And yes, I agree, why should unemployed people get given free things unless they try to support themselves, but that is another issue.

What a Winger.....Always makes me laugh when someone reads to much into these things, it's only a bloody cup of coffee....Besides you can get free coffee if you look hard enough

I suppose the shelf stackers, lorry drivers and the unemployed are not employed to risk their lives to help random strangers!

To be honest it also a nice marketing ploy from subways, the emergency services work nights and can bring in a big order from a station if they know a colleague is going to a take away shop!

Mc Donalds have always looked after us with drinks if we have a display in the town centre.

Great deal :) hot.

Shame it has brought a few idiots out of the woodwork

This is brilliant. I just got a job with the Police. Trouble is I can only have one cup of tea before I need the toilet.

Agree 100% - some absolutely ridiculous comments on here. We should be exceedingly proud of our emergency services - they all do a wonderful, wonderful job. Yes, I bitch about police occasionally being a car enthusiast (sure there are more important crimes out there than cars doing 32 in a 30!!) but they all do a sterling job and I don't envy any of their work.. whether it's having to deal with the mindless f*ckwits who infest our city centers at night drinking and brawling, or having to rescue people from burning buildings, or comforting dying people in hospital - they've all got the strength of character I wish I had.
#33
It's not about generosity towards the emergency services. It's a targeted marketing campaign for nightworkers who eat a hell of a lot of junk food. It's good business for Subway, that's all.

Why do all Subways have that same smell? It's a combination of disinfectant and melted cheese and it puts me off eating there.

What about unemployed people?
What about the elderly?

Surely the police, firemen, and Paramedics get paid enough to buy their own coffee and Tea.

Just imagine a shop full of unemployed and old people, that would really scare off the paying customers
#35
Fantastic idea - good on you Subway! Just wish my local one was actually open late... Hot.

Personally i'd prefer my police to be policing the streets (if they could do that without killing innocent people even better) My paramedics saving people and my firemen putting out fires rather than all of them cluttering up subway. After all as a tax payer thats what i pay them to do.
#37
They should buy their own, they earn enough.
#38
The subway by me offers a 6inch sub meal for 99p to us (fire service) which is a great deal and gets well used as a consequence, also a load of other businesses offer great discounts but to be honest i dont use any of them, will ask tonight and see who else has this policy.

For gods sake its a marketing ploy to encourage shift workers from that area of public sector to use subway when on shift, rather than KFC, Mcdonalds or all the other healthy eating places open late at night.

If Subway is not "on the streets" where is it?? If an ambulance crew, police or fire need a coffee or even pick up something for their meal break, why not? Or aren't emergency services allowed to have a break?

Heat and rep added.

oh my god i cant believe the attitude of some people!
wait until u need a policeman with a "w***er" walk!!! i ask u....they have to do deal with a majority of w****ers everyday-spat at fought against threatened with knives etc...i think unless u know a police officer and what their job actually entails and what they have to deal with as i do then u have no right to comment.
And for what its worth the wages arent that great in comparision to what they have to do despite the perception.
I am a nurse(work permanent nights!so no free coffee for me lol!!but then again im not working on the streets at night.
There also seems a misconception that the emergency services somehow must work with no break!!!-which we often do and perhaps subway know this more than some on here that in passing they might get to grab a cup of coffee on the go some nights if they are lucky.

there are plenty of freebies for everyone else too and im sure they'll not be queues of bobbies just to get a free cup of coffee theyve probably not got the time on most shifts!
