OK, so you sign up to what is meant to be a 'pay as you go' service, pay more for it, get stuck with a 12 month contract,

for a second hand, unspecified DVR?

Pass!

probably going to be one of the many Thomson DTI 6300-16 returned because either they are too noisy, or lock up or do not respind to the remote or miss recordings - all well documented on the net.

One to avoid - locked into acontract with a **** freeview recorder

Cold

Cold for this reason

I don't know... If you wanted to have TopUpTv and were prepared to sign up for a year then the recorder box (presumably the Thomson) is only costing you 20.00 - that sounds quite good value to me.

but they are nearly new (read refurb if you are lucky) therefore customer returns.

seems an underhand way of getting rid of all their scrap with probably very little comeback as they are marketed as free!. The Thomson box was branded as a TopUpTV box.

i think you can pick these up pretty cheap anyway

Surely this begs the question... if you're gonna go into a contract, why not go with a company that are gonna give you a decent box and some decent channels?

Sky's lowest TV package is only £7 a month more.

How is this 'top-up tv' if you're tied in?

Not voting either way yet, would love a clearer explanation!

I wrote and posted the same question, but the board ate it and i could be bothered posting it again.

Sky was on £150 quidco not long ago, with sky+ box £99 and install cost of £30 (I think?) it was a steal. Shame quidco is now gone!
