i do to but at £17.99

i voted hot as an hd dvd player for £90 with this hd dvd set is great value, however yet again london gets priority over the rest of the UK?

im sure it would not have been too difficult for HMV to have 5 of these at each of their main shops through out the UK, it would also get nationwide publicity rather than just appeasing the londoners yet again.
#11
im definatly going.
what time are others getting down, so i can beat them to it? :P
#12
Right - let me clarify a few thinks...

1) I have a flyer that stated the price for the DVDs as £89.99 - £59.99 is the online price and instore is usually more. £89.99 is the RRP so thats the price stated.

2) It is NOT a great price just for the DVDs but thats NOT why this deal is posted. You get the DVDs AND an HD drive for £89.99 (MAX PRICE). Sell the DVDs on ebay if you dont want them and get at least £40 back making the HD drive only £50 at the most.

Thanks!
#13
oh yeah, the player alone is about £180 on play.com, so its only really half the price with the matrix trilogy

I agree - but think Warner Bros are to blame not HMV... they are the promoters...

LOL - Hopefully everyone will think that and not go ;)

Although I think this is slightly less popular than a free Sony HD TV worth almost 2K so is likely to be less busy. Pitch the tent at 9 instead... :giggle:
#18
haha
hopefully this wouldnt be advertised too much
but HMV are probably handing out flyers and hotukdeals members are probably planning the trip already :\

ah well, ill go there about midnight and see what its like, good luck everyone!

I think people are mad enough to sleep on the street overnight for offers like this... If I lived in London I may have got up at 4am or so to check the queue.

Tough one to call this one really... Depends on advertising I guess - but it was advertised to about 20,000 people this weekend at london film an comicon at earls court...

Time will tell...
#21
Loads of people already sleep on the streets in London, although I'm suspecting that wouldn't be the demographic this offer is trying to attract. :whistling:
#22
I'd aim to be there at 3am.

No way am I going for this, I like my sleep too much. But it is a great offer.
#23
it is a monday morning, surely that would mean more people would have their precious work to attend to instead?

I'm guessing it'll be mostly students who are still on their summer holidays and have nothing better to do going to this hoping to make a quick buck on fleabay to pay for their tuition fees (lol - or 1% of that). Expect to see a few go up on fleabay on Monday afternoon... may get them cheap anyway :whistling:

Hot UK Deals coach leaves 4am Friday!! lol and no Cliff Richards can't come!
#26
Seems worth it for the resale potential but why would you want this aside from that is beyond me.

If you want an HD DVD drive this is more than worth it... :whistling:
#28
If i see anyone in a tent I am going to call them SAD! (hopefully i dont see u guys lol) for the sake of £150 ur making, you must be either desperate or poor! lol I will pop up there couple hours before! Not going mad about it as its not a huge offer u cant miss, hence £2k! Im not looking to resell, not worth the time and effort. I will be using as will save me money instead of buying the 360 HD drive!
#29
I'll probably try to be there between 6-7AM, hopefully that's not too excessively early!
#30
Sounds like a good deal if you can get there early enough. Wouldn't expect you to have to be there too early. Probably 6am would get you a place in the line because its not as big a deal as the PS3.

Why are these deals always in London? Don't they know people live in other parts of the country too?
#31
thats because, from a marketing perspective, London is the place to be!

I'd hazard a guess that London is more busier in the earlier hours of the morning than any other city centre in the UK.

btw, did anyone actually know about the tv giveaway by sony for the PS3 launch beforehand?

well about 50 people turned up for the PS3 launch, and I would imagine this player would attract even less people! So no need to sleep over night really

Nope. Sony made that TV giveaway up at the last minute, when no one turned up (prevents press reporting on that then)

They picked 'em up from a local Sony store. Someone on here worked at the store and mentioned it I think. It certainly makes sense!

i dont start work till 9.30 so may give it a try.

if there's a massive queue i wont bother.... least i'll be first in work and impress the boss
#34
I have to be at college for the first day of the new year. And that starts at 9 so i doubt im gonna make it to oxford circus and back in an hour.
#35
oxford circus hmm
maybe i have to go down to london especially!
#36
worth turning up for work early (i.e. at 8am) if you're local, but camping out the night before?

forget it

#39
Anyone reckon I coud buy one, walk out, put it in my laptop bag, then go back in and buy another one? :whistling:
#40
Maybe i'll just find a homeless person and offer them some money and food to hold me a spot in the queue.:giggle:
