Free Trade discount card and 10% off trade prices for anyone @ B&Q Trafford Centre

gianthamstersgianthamsters

Just been in to B&Q at Trafford Centre to buy a kitchen and have been told they are giving away free trade cards to anyone who attends the lettings show at event city and also an additional 10% off trade prices for first order...

My quote for my kitchen was £6640, on a trade card it was £4220 and with an additional 10% off it was £3800 saving £2800!!!

Plus the staff member in tradepoint told me you can use the card for future purchases saving money every time like a discount card with the savings im being told often better than staff discount!

You can get free tickets for the landlords show here:

http://www.landlordshow.info/site/GB/Visitors/Book_free_tickets,I8658.htm

everyone who goes to the show can get a free trade card im being told as its a show for developers and landlords although anyone can get tickets for free for the show.

Not sure if the events are national or not or just manchester.

sorry for the long description but its my first post.

m xx

I have a TP card, it is quite good, but remember to add vat when looking through the catalogue.

The kitchens there tend to always have massive savings, but i saved even more by going to Howdens, then paying £200 for a carpenter to come fit the whole kitchen in 2 days, top job to!

can anyone go to howdens, im not a tradesperson?

the assistant in the shop said you get discount for life with trade prices average 20-40% is this true?

sounds like a discount card for life to me! :)

It all depends what you're buying. I have found that lots of stuff is absolutely no cheaper with a trade card. Instore you do not know what you'll pay until they run it through the trade till. 90% of the time for me I get it cheaper dragging the old man along and using his 10% OAP card.

Howdens are supposedly "trade only", however in my experience they don't verify this when opening a cash account. If you manage to open an account with them they will of course offer you a discount. Their RRP's are way, way OTT and like most B2B vendors their discount structure is matched to your actual annual or perceived annual spend when opening a new account. In the end the prices will more than likely be comparable with B&Q retail, but the carcasses are better quality at 18mm compared to 16mm.

I know it's a controversial place and not everyone's cup of tea, but Ikea kitchens are generally much better quality than B&Q/Magnet/Wickes, and cost a fraction of the price. Perhaps not for everyone, but it's a place that often gets overlooked, and definitely worth considering if you're in the kitchen market. We did an entire large kitchen - loads of units, custom-made worktop, tons of fancy internal fittings, all the pelmets, lights, plinths etc - for about £2k at Ikea. Clever storage solutions, strong drawers, and much bigger cupboards (they go all the way back) than the competition. Even if there's not a huge difference in the price of the carcasses and doors, the trimmings and interior fitments are a tiny fraction of the price and they're far more flexible so you can create much more useful storage for your own needs.

Great deal on the tradecard for other stuff - thanks for the post, but I personally wouldn't consider a B&Q kitchen.

hmmm heard ikea kitchens a nightmare to fit and because they go all the way back a nightmare for pipes etc behind units...

Sounds like the kitchen may need more thought but a tradecard seems to be worth going for as they dont expire im told?

On the contrary, they're really simple to build and fit - just cut out with a jigsaw at the back, slide the back oanel vehind the pipes, you'll have to anyway at the sides even with a B&Q kitchen. The units are easier to fit as you literally just hold them up to the wall and screw through the back of them, much easier than the fiddly wall-fitting boxes we've used on other brands. If you're on a budget you can often pick up a good number of bits in bargain corner, we got about half if my mums kitchen in BC for a couple of quid a unit.

So let me get this right, if I book a ticket for the landlord show and attend I can get a discount card for TradePoint? I've been looking into getting a TradePoint card for a while but gave up as I don't own a business, but I can get one through this event? Brilliant if I've understood right, fingers crossed :)

Try here then click "visiting our shows"

Just popped in to Trade Point at Trafford and they signed me up there and then and also told me they're having an in store event on Monday and Tuesday :) 10% off plus tours, food, and competitions too :D

Apart from the ocassional clearance nothing in the store is "trade" even with 10% off it is still very over priced reduce prices considerably no one can sell them at these prices try Stax or others first as none are really cheap.

Think B & Q must be relaxing the rules on these trade cards!
Me and the old fella were at the tills today(Weds) - going for his 10% OAP thing when we were asked by a trade team staff member if we were - well basically 'employed'. which we both are !
Great - join the trade team! o.k - so we did!
    - to join - you mention your employer - it appears on your card!
    - tick box of the rough trade area - we have a kettle @ work - so that's electrical then!
    - they don't ask the address of your employer or any other particulars!
    - the contact address is your home address or whatever you want - which is the only one they ask!
    - any e-mail or telephone? ok
and no credit agreement / nonesense stuff!
    - just like joing Matalan
    - didn't even ask for any i.d???

I think B & Q have realised that people in the trade, or familiar with diy treat them like Woolworths - by that i mean - they've got everything in stock - so you look in there as your benchmark/ safety blanket. Then you try competitors - if no stock etc. - back to B & Q. - and suffer the higher prices for the availability.

Do you feel better parking closer at the trade entrance and going in 'your' own door with a free vending machine?? - and maybe getting stuff cheaper! - ofcourse you do!

I know it's long - sorry - but hope it takes the mystery out of joining for anyone who wants too...!
