Be sure to cancel the trial before it renews though, otherwise you'll be charged for a year of membership.

If I had to guess I'd say they are likely going to charge you. Or if you have multiple Amazon accounts maybe you were still eligible on one?

IIRC they have a "reset" period on the free-trial as I used to use it every year to buy Xmas presents before I bought prime. Not sure what the reset period is, but it looks like you may have just become eligible again

Same, got charged. The initial offer isn't linked to your account, just an advert for them.

It clearly stated that it was a free trial. Once it was confirmed I cancelled it and it now says that I will not be charged on 08 March 2017. Also I only have one amazon account.

No this is 100% correct as I've got loads of accounts solely to get Amazon Prime. I also got offered a free month however now they're hoping you forget to cancel as before you could cancel immediately and it would just end the free trial at the end of the month. Now it prompts you to cancel before it renews or cancel with immediate effect.

I got a letter before Christmas too, saying i was eligible for another trial, so it's definitely a thing!

Our 12 months prime was up a couple of weeks back, looked on the account literally a few hours after it had expired and they were offering me a free months trial.i then proceeded to place an order on prime which then tuned up a day late,so I complained and they gave me an extra month of prime on top of the free trial :D

I take out a free trial of Prime before Xmas every year. This year was the first time that nothing turned up late (last year almost everything was late - but they'll only give you one month's extension), so I didn't get it extended until the end of January. Dammit!

I did this once thinking it was a trial and then discovered that actually I had been charged and had inadvertently joined. Thankfully Amazon cs were v good and I received a refund. It might be worth checking!

Just add a + into your email address (Gmail) somewhere and make a new account every month...you still get the emails and amazon don't link the accounts, free prime!
