IMO they should allow users to sign a 12 month contract on renewal for this phone.
#2
I totally agree, still I suppose they had to let them upgrade for free as the first phone was quite inferior to other phones around, with the new one they have made sure they put what made the N95 so popular in it..
#3
Hopefully other phones will go down in price as well with the release of this. Not a fan personally of the O2 network or Apple products.
#4
Me either but I did think this was a good deal for all the people who paid over the odds, at least they will now get something for their money!!

Good thinking.

Nokia n96, same deal, same price.

Come on Nokia, you owe it to us.

;-)

The great news is that the iphone is going to be available on pay as you go!!!!!

Can anyone suggest a good deal on an iPhone as a new customer? Contract preferably!

Depends on how many minutes and how much you plan on texting.. the New Iphone is not out until July.

No flash! Come on Apple...

also TomTom software is being released for the iphone very soon. They already have TomTom running on a test iphone.
#11
There is speculation on the camera side of things on the new iphone which is being kept secret until near release time.

Also a front camera maybe appearing as on apples keynote there was sight of a possible secret camera under the front glass

LMAO - an N95 is a whole different ball game !
an iPhone is a proper multimedia device with an awesome screen and multi-touch technology
the N95 has some good features but not an iPhone !
voted hot as i will be upgrading to the new iPhone :-D
#13
Same here i will be upgrading my v1 iphone and selling my TomTom
#14
You might want to look into the fine print of the new 18month contract.....and make sure you are getting the same deal as teh current contract in terms of minutes etc.

Mate, you might want to research your facts. Functionality wise the N95 is leagues ahead of the iphone. Unless the new iphone can be hacked, apple will tell you what you can run on it....hardly a true multimedia device.....does not even have MMS, or support flash...comeon!

Iphone is slylish and cool. The N95 is open and functional.

And yes i have one, and yes i will upgrade....i just acknowledge that the N95 is a better phone in terms of functionality, but i perfer the looks of the iphone.

Quick answer, no. Long answer, I'm sure someone does - us mortals will have to wait till July to find out. My guess is that this is how they're supporting the price drop - carrier subsidy.
#25
Does it have a radio built in? Best feature of my Sony Ericson Walkman phone.
#26
Hmmm personally I'm waiting on the HTC Touch Diamond, that looks like a sweet phone, already on o2 with a P1i and it's a great phone, can't upgrade till Feb tho when my 18 months finish, also I think o2 will allow users on pay montly already to upgrade to the iPhone or something like that, don't know charges etc.

Will wait and see how this folds out,

Quite a few things on the iPhone missing which are vital for me to use on a basis.
#27
i would guess at no.

I would have got an N95 but decided that a battery should probably last more than like 30 seconds under decent usage.....

To say the iPhone isnt functional is rubbish. It is functional(in fact best of class) in the functions it provides.

The big miss on iPhone is bluetooth - other than that, it does most of what most people would want from the N95, and does it better.

And lets be fair, the new iphone will be hacked and jailbroken within a week, allowing all numbers of third party apps - with, may I say, a much better and simpler install method than that of the N95.

oh the N95 VS iPhone thing again. Compared to the N95, surfing the web is 10 times better, phone call clarity and music features are 10 times better, it lasts longer on a battery and is a better phone. Ok the apps are restricted but you cant have it all can you? And most of the apps you will never use. -

N95 is useless, terrible phone, its users should get an iphone and enjoy it.

For people moaning about flash, O2 give unlimited internet usage, the data rates would skyrocket if flash was put on there, there is a reason behind the decisions. Flash could be added in 2 mins if they wanted to, but the networks couldnt cope with the demand

Have to disagree there. I would say the main things a phone should be able to do well are. Make calls, send SMS, send MMS and have a good camera. Yeah the iphone makes calls and sends texts, but so will an old Nokia 3210. As for MMS, the iphone simply can not do that and the camera is inferior to the N95 which has a 5MP camera.

Saying that I do really like the look of the iphone but cant help thinking if I did "upgrade" my N95 to the new iphone I would still be missing out on something.

If you need a phone to listen to music then yeah, the iphone is the phone for you. However I am not one of those people and much prefer having a good camera and be able to send the pictures to other people.

Horses for courses really.

the Bad, worst let down for me, is the speaker volume, it's pathetic, & I miss loads of calls simply because i can't hear the stupid bloody thing ringing Confused & unless you **** around hacking & slashing, cutting & renaming, you can't use your own ringtone & are forced to use the basic ones that ship with the phone. also, the camera is very very basic, especially for a "premium" phone, 2 megapixels, + crapp exposure rate (go in the shop, try a demo model, switch the camera on & start moving around, it's blurr city) in good conditions, you can get a decent photo, but phones priced at less than a quarter of this price beat it to smithereens

The iphone can send MMS when jailbroken.

I'd debate how many people use this functionality anyway.

N95 camera is better, but not by as much as the "megapixel count" would suggest.

Wait a second which Flash are people talking about here?

Seems somepeople mean Flash as in the Light that flashes to illuminate a dark room when taking a photo and others are thinking of the software made by adobe to play and create Multimedia websites.

I was the first of many of my friends (7!) to get the N95, all have been disappointed with the build quality. I quite liked mine til I dropped it in a pint shortly after getting it.

These same friends are deeply envious of my iPhone.

send me your mobile number and ill send you a mms off my iphone!!!
as for the cam although 2mp it is good quality, the megapixel doesnt make a blind bit of difference if the lense itself is naff, i had a 2mp sony ericsson and its pictures were way better than my partner 3.2mp samsung phone!!!
ill compare a picture taken on my iphone with anyones taken on a another phone above 2mp, yea it make not be the best but not to the extent where you look at say the n95 picture printed off to the iphone picture printed off and say "man the iphones picture looks naff"!!
my partners dad upgrades his phones alot due to the fact he keeps breaking them lol and he said the n95 is in his words "the biggest piece of tat ive ever owned!"

The iphone is a 2nd rate device to anyone with a technical head on their shoulders. Great; it's touch screen and although Apple have done that bit well what else is attractive about it? after all it's just new bell and remember it's just pretty navigation. For anyone wanting more functionality then a poor camera and a facebook portal then it HAS to be the N96 heading for the shops in Q3 2008. Nokia are also going to be competing for apple's music crown this year too.
#36
nokias went downhill ever since symbian !
the symbian os is flaky and much happier with the stability and ease of use of iPhone
now the new one has 3G, GPS, full bluetooth , full internet, apps store , exchange etc......
there is nothing to beat the iPhone v2 !
#37
my guess is that since its coming free with the contract sooner rather than later we will see half line rental.

Thing that surprises me is people talk about technical/functionality, then you wreck it all by mentioning the N95. At least talk about the HTC Kaiser/MDA Vario III - then you may have an argument(although I have both, and much prefer the iphone).

Just sold my iphone on ebay £190 (£20 profit)........ just in time for the new version!

I doubt apple will make you activiate the phone in store, from what I'm reading no one for sure knows?

True, but everything thus far points towards them making you sign a contract before you are given the phone.
