does this include v+hd?
and info comes from where?

Cold, you only have to call them up and they throw them in for free any way. I had mine free 10 months ago. Also i think they're trying to get rid of old stock boxes which they've been giving out for the past 3 years. Think the new ones are samsung??

Also v+hd is a free service as they have a limited amount of hd channels still.
#3
great, need to get something sorted soon my box keeps coming up with a funny message ;-)

I want one of these but as an existing customer I don't fancy paying £49.

It's always for new / upgrading customers.

Do they actually have to get somebody round or is it just a case of simply swapping boxes over?

What message?
New card are been sent out, to put every legit tv vm customer onto nagra 3, and finally put an end to all they dodgy cable boxes!
Vm wanted sky sports hd etc, and sky said they would only do it, if vm were more secure, because you had cable tel, tele-west and ntl back in the day there was 3 different systems, now it will all be under virgin.
This gives vm more room for channels specifically HD channels, and the new nagra 3 system has been in place in europe for 3 years now, and still not been hacked!

I have standard virgin tv (The smallest package), phone line, and xxl bb. Would I be entitled to a free hd box for upstairs (On third floor)? Main box is on the 1st floor.

"still not been hacked"

This is NOT the V+ (recording pvr box) this is VHD, basically the EXACT same as the V+ without the recording facilty.
This gives people who wanna watch the world cup etc in hd the ability to do so, but dont need the recording side of things.
At current count there ar 11 HD channels, the new cards been sent out just now , added a few E4 hd and sy-fy hd and discovery hd.
Seems the V+HD box is indeed free, for customers upgrading to XLTV.. http://allyours.virginmedia.com/html/tv/vplus-hd-box.html

Yep, it's the V+ box and no charges whatsoever.

I went through to cancellations and the guy I spoke to looked at the package I'm on in detail and worked out my average bill over the last 6 months. I'm on XL TV, M Broadband and M Phoneline. He went away for a minute and came back to confirm I can have it as long as I enter a new 12 month contract just for the TV. Result so thanks to OP for listing this.

I get all 3 for £34.50 though e-billing. Been with them for about 5 years (previously telewest) which helps as they can't hold you to ransom when you're outside of your contract period.

My bill is usually just over £40 with the odd telephone call through the week or a movie on demand purchase. With a couple of boxing matches purchased, my average for the last 6 months has been £45.

V+ boxes are free for new customers taking out the XL TV.

I think you have to take out a phone line with them aswell but as long as you take out the XL TV as part of your bundle the V+ box is free.

Thanks
mine is £36.49 total service charge for line rental, tv xl and broadband m, ebilling too (wonder why different) been with them 4 years + when it was NTL
and he won't budge on the £49, he came down from £75 activation plus £15 delivery
guess i'll have to threaten to leave and see what happens
#21
£75? That's a load of nonsense! Ring back until you get somebody decent on the other end.

The first thing I asked was how much is the V+ box for existing customers. He said £49 installed. I said I don't fancy paying that so he started to look at my account in detail. What's the £15 delivery all about? Don't go through to upgrades but cancellations.
#22
i think he was on drugs, i will try cancellations.
and what you have been offered is V+HD or just V+
thanks again

It's the V+ HD I'm getting. I would have just taken the V HD as I'm not that fussed about recording and just want to watch some stuff in HD but to get the + box is a bonus which will come handy at some point I suppose.
#24
my wife called them before and was told £75 upgrade to vHD we already have v+HD and a normal box on xl, phone xl and broadband xl, though it does depend on the person you speak to cause i juat called them to kick off on the upgrade line and asked for a 2nd V+HD 2new vHD and upgrade my broadband to the xxl 50mb and told them i wasnt willing to pay seperate install fee's for all like they wanted me to after he put me on hold to talk to his boss he came back with a one off £35 fee for it all intsalled in 8days so im well happy so thats 1v+hd, 2 vHD and a xxl broadband with a wireless router thrown in for free all installed for £35 :)
#25
I'd love to take Virgin up on this offer, however I'm in a rural area so can only get their broadband service.. nice deal though..

Got there in the end then! A little bit more work involved with yours, that's why it may have been a bit more difficult. Mine's just a straight swap for the standard box I have in the living room.
It's not something I require yet but £5.50 a month extra for a second box sounds a great deal.

gave up trying straight swap (ranged from £49 to £110)
thought if i keep existing box it may help so tried that instead and finally got there
thanks again

Ok guys, I am on the basic TV package just now, but want to upgrade to the TV L or XL, would like a new box and a box in the room. Anyone have any tips on what to say to these guys? I phoned yesterday requiring costs but the guy on the phone was just mean I didn't even go threw with anything!

ANy tips on what to say would be nice, currently M TV, L BB And M phone for £36 a month which is a rip off compared to what you can get when you join up now!

And, can I cancel with them and then put in my partners name?

Rep for any help!

Try to keep it in your name and build up some loyalty - always helps for future haggling.

It's actually the older prices we have - the package for what I have now is a lot more expensive.

You are actually upgrading to XL TV which should make the box free so there is your case.

Have a look on their website, you only have to pay for the box on the M and L TV package, it's free for XL.
I managed to get it free with no upgrades but I'm pretty sure they're giving these free for new customers + existing ones that are upgrading so I'd be surprised if they said no.

Hmm.. anyone know of a way of testing Virgin's HD service for say, a month, starting mid-June?
#32
When I had problems with Virgin I cancelled my services and then signed up through Quidco and had my service up and running within 3days:whistling:

BTW I have BB M(10) and phoneline what are the chances of getting the V+hd for free?

Been with them for about 4 years now I think! I was told the XL package was an extra £9.50 a month ontop of what I am paying now, yet new customers get the XL package for the same price I am paying for my M TV! Hardly fair!

Think I will phone them and see if I get someone nicer on the phone :-D

Yes did it all the correct way for notice etc just timed it well with the "New Deal".

At the time was having major problems with Virgin service and billing (after yearsof good service)
I even told a members of Virgin staff my intentions and they said they could not stop me doing this and one even said he did¬nt blame me:-D:-D
#37
virgin's deals for existing customers are always dependent on who you speak to.
me Dad got the VHD box for £49 and free manned install.
girlfriend is on a lower package and she paid £30 and free manned install!
#38
i upgraded my package ages a go ended up with two v+ boxs full tv sports and movies, xxl bb and xl phone for £68.99 seems i got a good deal
#39
i just haggled for about half an hour, they wouldnt back down on the box cost. for a V HD or a V+HD
so i went for the medium package, free install and a V HD box for £49 one off fee,.
I'll be honest i don't think it's the best deal and if they do cancel the one off box fee on the 12th i'll be calling back to rant / cancel / refund. i only went for it as i want the world cup in HD and it's my cheapest option.

A note to anyone thinking of going for this, the fitting slots are going very fast, so be quick if you want HD world cup glory....

anyone know exactly what channel you get in HD on the medium package ? the website's not up to date
