Free Wifi in Mcdonalds

As part of the fast food giant's campaign to attract a more upmarket client? and bring more businesspeople through the doors, it's now offering free wireless access. The networks, provided by The Cloud, should be accessible instantly; just select them from your machine.

In mine yesterday (bad i know ) and its got it , has yours

interesting to find out the range, do you live near and now get free access

my locals had it for atleast a year+

But they always request a username and password when you connect, and it never tells you anywhere what to put.

Same in Weatherspoons Pubs, free Wi-Fi but you never get told username and password !
#3
I know Wi-Fi is available in the Manchester city centre Macdonalds & it has been there for a while
#4
make you wonder how the government would police this using when using it to download music/films ????

still when I was in USA the local kids were all out around free wifi hotspots (not in them , just in range) and they were all on the internet, using free electrical points too the clever little uggers.

I was under the impression that you had to pay to use 'The Cloud' and the Wethers wi-fi?

Most new phones have Wi-Fi so you just surf on that instead.

'spoons used to have a 'buy a half, get half an hour' wi-fi access. Now it is totally free, where it works.

so they are offering more than a stomach bug you can now get a virus to go.

attract a more upmarket client?

Clearly not working, went past my local maccy d's tonight, there were loads of chav's listening to tinny music on their mobile phones loitering outside. No city traders / doctors / lawyers etc. in sight

I think they'll need more than a few salads and free wifi to up their game!

Yes true, but the McDs version gives you a free cookie/token that lasts for up to 24 hours surfing.

As a sales rep, I find it fantastic that I can upload call data during the day, saving on time at home. All you've got to do is park outside really close, job done. To be fair, many of my colleagues have viewed McDs as a public toilet for years, so giving people free wireless is just another way to get people through the door to buy heavily salted burgers and overpriced bucket-sized containers of ice and cordial syrup!

And who would pick up the police summons if something illegal was done over their connection?

How do you get this though, I've never been given one when buying anything from McD's ?
#23
Yawn, yawn

Its amazing... a place like McDonalds gets WiFi and the publicity is immense. So woopedee doo dah!

Places who have had this for free for at least a year if not 2:

Varsity bars,
Weatherspoons,
Some famous coffee shops
Lots of local bars

In fact just walk down the hi street with a wi-fi detector around pubs/fast food joints and see how many there are - most with a stipulation that you have to buy a coffee etc first of course...

I think the upmaket clients would prefer real food rather than the the crud they serve in maccy d's - my company gives me iPass access so I get free WiFi almost everywhere, if a mere mortal like me gets this the upmarket mob would probably have better

Guess the brown signs, new furniture, Salads and WiFi are not going to attract anyone.
#26
Is'nt the local McDonalds what the Chavs use for protection when having sex?
#27
Do you all know that if you use multimap.com, you can check a box that shows you all the local Wi-Fi hot spots?

Nearby me (East of Glasgow) I've got Starbucks, McDonald's x 3, Zavvi, Travel Inn x 2, Hollywood Bowl, Roadchef, Hilton Strathclyde and Redstones Hotel

Now that IS useful - thanks for that! I always though that multimap was **** (the popup page it produces is intensely annoying) but I will use it for this. Google maps is better for every other purpose though.
#30
Well it's not country wide as someone earlier said as both of the mc donalds here and the ones in the surrounding towns don't have any WiFi. But it would be quite useful. Ok so a lot of people don't like the food, but a lot of people do, and I know a lot of people get a cup of coffee in the morning from there.
#31
This is useful for finding free hotspots across the UK:

"All our hamburger products, such as Big Mac™ ,
Quarter Pounder with Cheese, Hamburger, and
Cheeseburger, are made using 100% beef - whole
cuts of high quality forequarter and flank.
McDonald’s is proud to be one of the biggest
purchasers of British and Irish beef – sourcing from
over 16,000 British and Irish farms."

"All of the eggs used in our breakfast menu and
sauces are free range. We take great care to ensure
that all of our free range eggs conform to the Lion
Mark code of practice."

McDonalds is not to everyones taste. I count my self as a bit of a 'foodie' so I am quite particular about what I eat and the provenance of the ingredients.
Even so, after checking out the ingredients in the McDonalds products that I eat, I may still sucumb 3 or 4 times a year.

You can't really knock the ingredients.
The same cannot be said for supermarket ready-meals, even the so-called 'premium' or 'finest' ranges.

McDonalds serves a purpose; reasonable quality food at a realistic price that does not require a long wait.
It's fashionable to knock McDonalds, but there are a lot of fallacies concerning this company.

PS - Their coffee is very good quality and value too.
#36
They've recently got Cloud installed, which is free.. the wifi before you had to pay for/be a member of...

i only know this because we got the IT support for them (last day today though)

It's 8Mbit line also

EDIT: each session lasts for 24 hours too... when it asks for your name/email just enter random information it doesn't matter... that's what I tend to do on our test kit.
#37
i saw this advertised in (one of) my local mcdonalds the other day.

so yeah i'm gonna sit in mcdonalds and browse the internet and get grease all over my iphone.
#38
If you have a tomtom, you can d/l a wifi hotspot poi for it that will display free access points.
good deal, voted hot!
#39
I miss breakfast alot and McDonalds does the mcmuffins which are pretty awesome, maybe once a month I will leave to go to work early and end up in there with an orange juice and muffin.

There are a few wifi networks around me...

http://llllost.com/uploads/wifi.png

Quite a few! But then I do live slap bang in the middle of Birmingham.

Some people real are up themselves aren't they, end of the day if you dont want to eat McDonalds dont but keep your preaching to yourself, im sure in this day and age most people know exactly what they are getting from fast food. The OP was just trying to help people out by letting them know about the wifi, No need to keep going on about the food there etc.
