OK, I dont know if it belongs here or in Freebies or in vouchers, but I used EDI's super deal about getting a railcard 1/2 price and noticed this at the bottom!

To claim your FREE one year Family & Friends YHA membership valued at £22.95 call: 0870 770 8868 (within UK) or +44 1629 592 700 (outside UK) and quote ATOC2

This is very similar to AMBA_GAMBLA's post but its for everyone, not just youngsters!

See next post for relevent links!

Hell this is really hot. Specially at this time of year. If you know any teens - totally free membership.

Although this does not apply to families, seriously fabulous adventure for kids. Don't be fooled by old fashioned ideas of youth hostels. Big changes recently. All are set in fantastic locations with views to die for and VERY family friendly. Have done these short breaks sinc emy kids were 3.

Great find, will pass this on to many to take advantage
#5
Wow, cheers!
#6
Going to do this tomorrow...thanks!
#7
Good grief, not a computer game or related to any type of console.........

Does this mean you cannot use this if you book as family, ie mum and dad are members,as looking at the Paris hostel for us & 12yr old and 10yr old,
dorm & B&B for 4 available for our dates and it looks ideal for the 1 night we need.:?
Total: 69.90 GBP 5 % Deposit: 3.49 GBP Booking Fee: 1.50 GBP Pay Now: 4.99 GBP

Usually you book the room under YHA, as a family it should be fine, but sign up kids too if you really need.

The £22.50 membership is a family membership BUT it doesn't matter anyway. If you only have an individual adult membership then kids under 18 are covered if they stay with you. Sounds a great deal. You can still stop at youth hostels if you are not a member but you don't get the discounted rate which saves you a few quid - £3 per night as an adult or £1.50 a night as a child.
#12
Does anyone know what the age limit is on having this membership. Also do you need to have children to book accomodation or can you for example just book for 2 or more adults?
#13
Just looked at this for a short break for our family, a family room in august was coming in at £72.95 per night :?..... i loved Youth Hosteling as a teenager but i'm struggling to justify this price when we've just booked a 4* DeVere for £44.50 inc breakfast and swimming pool for a similar time of year ???

Think we'll stick with camping for our 'back to basics' trips for the time being.......

Great deal for those that are interested though
#14
does this include the Scottish YHA?
#15
Is this the same card that can be used in Oz?
#16
I personally would assume so, as it is in the UK ...
Hot deal, voted hot, 7 C credited! Even I couldnt resist and applied haha.
Nice one!

If this is totally free, do you need to buy the railcard? Do you just quote the code, or do you need a valid railcard number too?
#18
I just called chap asked for the code, then my name and took my address and said it would be in the post - this could be handy for Oz this summer :thumbsup:

I could be wrong but Im not sure that an individual membership WOULD cover kids under 18. I think they still have to be covered under a family membership or have their own (free) card. I know when ive taken my daughter and her friend, the friend had to have her own membership (although free). She was not covered under mine.

Sorry to say but although youth hostels are fab now they are no longer cheap. Its not so expensive staying in a shared dorm but family rooms are now on the pricey side.

Just got asked for my railcard number.

Yes this deal is for people who have purchased a railcard. Hence I am sure they will ask for a number, however I am sure they wont be able to confirm if the number is valid or not..

Not for me, as I never bothered with hostes!
#26
I managed to get away without giving a railcard number, so hopefully my membership should be here soon.
#27
I've just applied for the railcard and paid £12 as this is cheaper than joining the YHA which I was thinking of doing anyway. Thanks OP!

The family rooms are a bit on the pricey side (and I'd have to have one as I've got a little one under 5), but don't forget you can use Tesco Clubcard vouchers - £10 in vouchers gives you £40 at YHA, only thing is you've got to have the vouchers before you book a room, and you have to book a room 14 days in advance - so I think I'm going to cash in my vouchers in advance.
#28
Just rang and they asked for a number.... Still voted hot as i've got a railcard.
#29
Yes you have to have a railcard serial No. - Just make up an eight figure number and quote this, they say they are checking it but they cannot do this and after taking your details send you your membership pack. Most dishonest, I would never try it:oops:

I know !!! Great Isn't it ?

lol
When I rang this morning I wasnt asked for this number, this is most obvious that we have all been flooding that line :D
All they asked is that if I have a friend that needs to be added on.
Ahh well, I m sure they are not impressed :)

On this page it seems to confirm that any kids with you under 18 are covered by your adult individual membership.

i just called and they asked me for my railcard number.. i started making one up and she stopped me (must have sounded dodgey coz i started it with 9686.. )

Maybe I'll try call back later.. anyone know how many digits are on the railcard and should I start with 132.. or similar lower numbers.

Also I said I've a family rail card.. hope this is the right answer?
#34

#35

The details came up as soon as I'd completed the application form for the railcard. I still haven't received the card so just say its not been received yet if you get any hassle!

:-D

Just tried and they said to wait until the railcard arrived!
Sorry!

Are the prices quoted on the website for YHA members or do you get a further discount?
