If i plugged this into my laptop, would it stream live footy to my TV?

Why not just plug your laptop into your TV via DVI to HDMI, or VGA, etc?

Actually it is a deal, try and find a better spec media player for the money.

Don't i need a TV out function on my laptop?

much better compatibility with a laptop directly into an LCD tv.

this player doesn't play as many file formats as the WD media player, which is cheaper.

But the WD isn't network capable.

My HP PC was the same price as this and not that much larger. Complete with network and winxp. Added XBMC and an HDMI card so now I can play any media file from the disk or wireless.

Wow, you actually went and looked to see what I've posted, that's quite petty.

At the time I posted that it was the cheapest available and it didn't get many many hot votes either so I'm not sure what point you're trying to prove.
