So can you use one of these to back up all the stuff on your Pc and if yes is it easy to transfer everything over???
#2
why is there an asterisk after no AC adapter needed?
#3
These things are usually powered by the USB port.
No idea why it's there, can't see anywhere the asterisk is referring to.

Yes.

The * is there is indicate that it might need a power source on some laptops. This is usually provided by connecting an extra USB cable to the power imput. It is like this on my wife's laptop.

The Aldi in Burton on Trent certainly had quite a few in stock.

This is a LOT smaller. It's genuinely pocket sized; as opposed to the WD which is "paperback book" sized.

Surely all of these are about the size of a 2.5 inch laptop drive in a case. :?

Are you thinking of the mybook, the one linked is the passport which is about the same size as this drive.

The Freecom is 139 x 83 x 22 mm

The WD is 126.15 x 79.5 x 15.0 mm - that's 40.7% smaller than the Freecom.

(This information is brought to you by a Chartered Accountant - you'd never have guessed, would you!!)

Sorry - you're right (gnashing of teeth). I was looking at the link to the Freecom XXS that was on here yesterday :-(

Which is still a great deal, btw - the world's smallest 320 Gb drive for £68? Very crisp.

I checked Tim's math's, rather hoping he would be wrong. Sadly, I have to report he's right

Can you kindly show the working out.. as i had a go at calculating the percentage and getting around 45%...

Give me a quick maths lesson

Okay - try and remember that the "Debit" side is always next to the window.

For the Freecom; 13.9cms times 8.3cms times 2.2cms equals 253.814 cubic centimetres.

For the WD; 12.615cms times 7.95cms times 1.5cms equals 150.4339 cubic centimetres. Subtracting WD from freecom leaves 103.3801 cubic centimetres and expressing that as a fraction of the freecom unit (because we're saying that the WD is "X" percent smaller than the Freecom); we say:

150.4339 divided by 253.814 multiplied by 100 percent equals 40.7307%

Is the aldi one usb powered?
#21
I would watch these guys.
they have a tendency to fail.

specially the WD ones,
I bought a brand new 320g, had it for barely 2-3months before it failed.

lost around 200gig worth of data. drive doesnt read anymore in pc or mac.
and makes noises, and yes... I do have other external WD drives 2x 500g books,
I just would not trust one of these types again.

if you have work and you dont want to loose it, stick with just small USB Flash Sticks, much safer!
lesson learned for me!

Nor have I .... and you'll have to lucky, but a select few branches have discounted them. The 4 local ones I tried were all at full price though.
