Yeah they seem to be all over the map with these ones. You can get the 250gb sport version for 39.99, but the 320 is 74.99. I'm happy with this one.

Originally ordered the Lacie, but changed my mind and thought I'd save a few quid and take a punt on the Freecom.

Nice find...

thanks - missed out on the previous HDD deals on play.com and decided to go for this! Cheers!
#14
BURNING HOT!
ordered mine now :) thanks
#15
Good drive and good price. We currently use a bulk load of these at work and not heard of any problems in the last 8 months of using them.
#16
Tremendous price with Firewire as well! I've bought 2, 1 for me, 1 for a friend. Don't even need it but at this price you can't go wrong! Missed out on the last 1 at this price

Fantastic, replacing my existing 250gb model which is starting to play up and is 3/4 years old and cost £150. The internal drive is still sound, but years of being stuck into xboxs, PS3;'s laptops and being carried around the rubberised usb needs replacing.

These are much better quality than the recent deals and very reliable and fast. Mega HOT!

Amazon reviews....Out of the total 55 reviews....30 reviews say 5 star and 13 day 4 star.....seems a very nice (not outstanding) reviews for an external hard disk...SO not MIXED but Good Reviews.....HEAT added.. two ordered,,..p.s: By the way the one listed here has a firewire and the one reviewed on Amazon hasn't got one....

Erm, if there were only 30 5* and 13 4* reviews then | would agree with you Mr Phd, however there are 12 reviews that are average or worse, therefore this produce has mixed reviews (by definition). If you actually read the reviews you would see there were led reliability problems.

Also whilst this I agree this isnt uncommon, there are also reports of drive failures too;

And its worth noting that with Play.com after 30days you have to contact Freecom with any fault.

nice design, very good price

Can someone clarify:
It looks like the integrated cable is for firewire. Presumably you get a mini USB cable for USB use. I'd have bought it if the integrated cable was USB instead.
#21
Thank-you for the post, been after one of these for a good price for a while now. Just ordered.
Heat added.
#22
Allegedly there is a 2 years manufacturer's warranty (based on Amazon's description). If it fails...it's going back to Play! They are great with returns.
#23
I have ordered, HOWEVER i also ordered the last Freecom drive at this price but that changed to 'Awaiting Stock' so i am not counting chickens yet...
#24
...with firewire, its cracking deal..ordered 1 and heat added 8)

I wondered that too

It looks like integrated firewire, seperate USB cable (probably mini USB) - whether its included is another matter.
#26
thanks ordered one

Actual product review here

HDD are physical devices by nature and so hard drive failures though unfortunate will always happen - if someone could confirm the brand/model of drive in this unit as I suspect it'll be a Seagate or similar.

As long as it ain't Maxtor I'm happy

Good find OP, thanks, heat added ;)

The manual confirms that you need a cable for USB (dunno if it's included but most people have spares these days).
So WARNING to all, the pull out integrated cable will only fit in a firewire port!

Damn, thought I good a very good deal on the non-firewire grey version for £41. Have now ordered one of these too. I'm developing a love-hate relationship with this site...

As long as it isn't a Hitachi I'm happy.

From the manufacturer:

The FireWire connection cable is integrated into the ToughDrive Pro, and can
simply be pulled out for connecting to the Mac without any additional cables. The
ToughDrive Pro can also be connected to the computer using the supplied USB
cable.
A power supply is not required, as the ToughDrive Pro is 100% buspowered.

I know you weren't necessarily saying they weren't, but I found freecom customer service to be brilliant. I had an 18 month old DVB-T tuner but it stopped working when I updated to Vista. Despite it being out of warranty, and them never suggesting it would work with vista, they accepted it back and gave me one of their newer models for nothing.

Now showing up with no price against it.
I suspect a mis-price & a lot of cancelled orders :-(

Not a misprice, seen this offer posted on twitter, limited stock, so had to be quick.

Order was submitted when it said 'out of stock' but it shows as order taken in the outstanding orders...fingers crossed. Heat and rep either way - was a good deal.

Maybe if it was the USB model. This firewire/usb one isn't as good unless it's a firewire drive that you're after.

Having owner a couple of Freecom MusicPal's the technical support has been reasonable, and they do still produce firmware upgrades which is nice, however the majority of support still comes from the user base. I've no experience of customer supoport (i.e. returns) so that is good to know - thanks
