I'm under contract but sounds like a great deal.

Cannot be used as a main phone I think, very temperamental
Number got changed by network for no reason

Never quite grasped the "freebie" element of FreedomPop due to confusing previous threads mentioning activation fees, monthly fees to qualify for xx mins/txt/data, minimum terms, etc. Polite request: can someone with genuine recent experience indicate the true cost and procedure to obtain (any?) ongoing monthly free alowances? Thanks.

Looks like you may have a good deal there, but your post is illegible. Any chance of repeating it using some punctuation.

Has this changed? Because i have one somewhere in a draw, family member used it for a while and receiving calls are not an issue.

However the obvious and unbearable voice quality was an issue.

We do offer the Free Plan at no additional cost. However, you are more than welcome to disable Top-Up so your account never exceeds the Free Plan's data allotment of 200 mins. I have provided a link which will assist in providing details regarding Top-Up along with another which provides our plans. Feel free to have a look.

Thanks for this OP. Heat added.

I already have a FP SIM which permanently resides in my 'spare' phone. I mainly use it for the free 200MB of data. If you want to check something on the internet when you're out and about, it's quite handy. I now need another one for the wife's new phone so this deal is perfectly timed.
BTW, I found you post easy to comprehend. You will find a lot of unhappy people on HUKD that just like to gripe and moan. After a while you learn to ignore them.

But does it not still allow you to exceed your free 200MB allowance if you are using it when you reach the limit thereby running up a bill?

Disabling Top-Up will not allow your account to exceed the data limit.Feel free to have a look at the link I've provided which provides information on Top-Up.

"Please note, there is a 3 hour delay in data reporting. Make sure to keep an eye on your data usage to avoid reaching or exceeding the limit." So you CAN go over the limit and be charged!

Don't listen to this guy - Here are the facts!!

Here is the last answer I got when charged from going over the limit in spite of auto top-up being disabled.

Hello XXX XXXX,

"Thank you for contacting FreedomPop's email support team! My name is XXXXX and I will assist you with your concerns.

I had checked your account, apparently the reason why you were billed £0.99 is because you have a 25 MB overage for last month.

I can see that auto top was also disabled , once you reached the threshold of your data allowance there is 3 hour delay before services would be interrupted, basically you had used the data on that 3-hour delay."

Telling porkies on HDUK does not go down well.

The biggest problem with FP is you have to use their app to send texts and phone, we tried it in two phones a while back and it was awful even paying for premium voice call. On the plus side customer service were excellent.

Honestly, what do you expect for 99p? I used the free data for my Sat Nav over several months without a problem. If you have WiFi available to make calls the service is OK. Granted you have to make sure you tick all the right boxes to make sure there is no monthly charge and I could not recommend this as your main Sim but for those occasions you may be "on hold" for half an hour, this is quite a useful option.

I haft to say in there defence, I got charged for going over to next month on a premium service, but after i eventually got in contact with them. Which was via phone as there email support needs allot to be desired. They reimbursed me for the following months subscription, and down grade me to the free service like i ask.

The basic cover is free each month.
However, if you want extra minutes etc they have a range of options & charges.
People run into charge problems as Freedompop often offer "extras" for the 1st month. You have to ensure you cancel all this - right away is the best option. You then have to go through all the possible menus to ensure every extra has actually been cancelled. Once you have jumped through those "hoops" you have a freebie service which can actually be useful.
If you have a Wifi connection the phone use should work OK. Away from the Wifi the service is iffy - should work but I would not like to depend on it for emergency situations.
Also, if you have a dual Sim phone Freedompop has to be set up as main Sim (using their App). Online there is an way to use the USA software to have both Sims working but I have not used that - I use Freedompop in my spare phone - or you can also just turn off your main Sim when I want to use Freedompop.
May not be worth the effort for many but it is free so why not give it a try.

Clear explanation, thanks. Do you know what company FP use for processing credit card payments (I don't mean what cards are accepted; I mean who provides the gateway)? Thanks.

Don't use this company! The customer sevice is awful! I asked a question and didn't even get a reply! Nearly went with them but after reading comments in here i didn't. Its just a whatsapp style service! With voice done like that! And from what i've heard You have to use their app and you'll find calls dropped etc... Why bother just use this http://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/plusnet-mobile-double-everything-500-mins-1-000-texts-1gb-4g-data-great-for-low-2669892

You get real voice! And enough data to use whatsapp voice and video calling etc...

I believe the service as improved recently with new software. The problem I had was people were ringing me and the calls were not being received.I understand if you pay for premium service voice you can make calls without having a data connection connected already.Freedom usage and reception may be good.
#29
FreedomPop advertise 200MB free data allowance, but that's pretty misleading/deceptive. Unless you have auto-topup enabled, they block your data after once you reach 180MB. So you only get 180MB free each month, not 200MB.

I do use a FreedomPop SIM (because calls are free), but there are some disadvantages:
- Call quality is generally poor, often a call connects and one person can't hear the other, or sound is choppy/delayed.
- Sometimes I have to retry calling two or three times before it connects.

If you keep in mind the disadvantages and carry another phone with a normal SIM in (to make or receive calls when the FreedomPop one doesn't work), it's OK.

I have had a problem with not being able to receive OTP SMS from my bank.
#31
I have had this for over a year and it can go off, annoying if you want reliability. The inbuilt calling app isn't as good as csipsimple and you have to choose between the 2 or you get error 500 installing the second whichever way you install them. Just a thought though if you insert the sim in all your phones and install the app will it still work if you swap the sim over your wifi. Would like to straddle the 200 mins over multiple phones
