yeah their really cheap arent they. for £15 this is a good deal voted hot

also most people who get standard freeview boxes get them because they are cheap, so if someone wanted a freeview HD box, they would prob just get freesat HD, sky HD etc considering how much the HD freeview boxes are going for

Got this bad boy for £12.99 from Argos a few weeks ago. It's pretty good but the sound tends to cut out for a few seconds every now and then.
#10
What is it with Freeview boxes? I seem to get through them as often as I change my pants. They keep becoming faulty. last year I have got through 3.

Before one of you reply, I dont really change my pants 3 times a year ;-)
#11
No a bad box atall; Got one for my 91 year old dad the other week when they were 12.99 and he can work it just fine (so it must be nice and easy!)
#12
why this hot? ive never paid more than £15 for a freeview box.
Arent they this price all the time?
#13
Yeah I too bought one a few weeks ago, and overall very happy with it but as kyletherobot says, the sound does cut out for a couple of seconds perhaps a few times a day.

If you buy them at that rate, you're better off buying a tv with freeview aint ya..lol
#16
Bogstandard price for a bogstandard freeview box.
#17
If you look at the small print for this box on the Argos site, it's states it had previous been on sale for £12.99, so not as hot!

Ever heard the saying
"if you buy cheap, you buy twice" ?
Or in your case, if you buy cheap, you buy thrice!!!

My Sony is still going strong 3 years on :)
(admitedly it was the one I bought second as I too bought a cheaper one first time round)
Only problem is that Sony don't make them anymore :-(

Not that long ago either:

That was probably the time when B&Q were flogging a cheap box for £12.99 too

Completely agree. Most cheap freeview boxes are just cheap and nasty. I keep changing mine regularely at least twice a year. I bought from Argos, so no problem with exchange. As long as you ask for a refund and re-buy, you can extent your warranty forever. And don't feel guilty about it because the one who sells c***p also deserves c***p.

Of course it didn't take off, it was an experimental transmission to 450 homes to test it. Once the freeview HD boxes are available it'll take off in a big way.

..... And when Freeview HD is launched every current freeview box in the land wont work and will have to be replaced. Loads more money for the manufacturers!! :whistling: ;-)

whats your point?
isnt this just evolution of technology... a normal feature of life.
Remember black and white teles?

Last week in B&Q they had Fortec Star freeview boxes for £10 each, nice little unit with twin scart sockets and a pass through aerial sockets. Nice stylish looking box it is too compared to some of the ugly cheap boxes ive seen

That was just my point.. Hence the whistling smilies..:whistling:

Get everyone kitted out for the digital switchover and then a couple of years later tell them all the kit they've just bought will stop working soon and they need to buy more new boxes.

It's just that the timescale for progress gets shorter and shorter. The evolution from black and white teles to where we are now took 50 odd years!

freeview HD will NOT replace standard freeview.

Quite right, but nearly all of todays standard Freeview boxes and intergrated TV's won be able to decode the MPEG-4 transmition format.

But then it's no different from Standard SKy and Sky HD where you also need a new box.
