Just seen a press release saying Asda will be selling "Durabrand" freeview set-top boxes for a tenner in-store for this weekend only! (Sat 28th June - Mon 30th June) - seems a bit of a bargain if you want freeview!

LOL was just about to post this, good deal

My normal Warb loaf cost me £1.26 in Asda yesterday.. Shocking..

Remember when buying the £10 box, to pick up you normal daily supplies at a inflated cost to make the profit back up on the freeview box.

Voted Hot, but we all know Asda love the "get them in the shop" publicity deals.

will take the one back i got from there this week, tell them its faulty, get a refund and then get one of these :giggle:

Good idea SS07! It's only worth a tenner anyway!

Umm, aren't the supermarkets retail frauding us consumers?

I bought one of these for my dad, I think it was about £15. Good Freeview box, sturdy, decent remote control, easy to set up. Well worth a tenner.

And as for the 'get em in the door offers' - well, you don't have to buy anything else, be strong!! (says the woman who popped into Asda for some vinegar earlier and spent £40...)

maybe you should visit one that sells a sense of humour!

I suspect all the current freeview boxes will soon be £10, as the new Freesat HD boxes are now available at £130 to £150.

Does anyone know that this box has a composite (RCA) AV output OR a coaxial(RF) output other than the SCART??

For anyone that can't be bothered to pop along to ASDA to get this (if they have them in stock anywhere even), I was in B&Q last weekend, and they had sackloads of Freeview boxes on sale for £14.98.

Seemed a good deal to me.

#22

Maybe...but only if you ask nicely!

I was in the B&Q in Tunbridge Wells, and they must have had over a hundred of them in a big box!

@ Kaku. I'd be carefull, I bought one today(grrrr) It does have an rf out, but it is merely passive for the terrestrial channels, it won't output the freeview via rf, youd need a seperate modulator for the udf

Do these work? Some of the older freeview boxes can't handle the recent change to the freeview signal.
#26
I had one of these boxes, I bought it about 2 years ago when they were £45

I used it for about 3 months, was really unimpressed with it. Maybe it was just mine, but it was sluggish, the remote was unresponsive, switching channels was slow and it didn't always find a signal. It also developed a habit of turning itself on when it wasn't in use.

Hopefully they've changed it internally, or they're not worth a tenner.
#27
So what, I bought one from Sainsbug 3 weeks ago for this price. It's hardly worth making a special journey to Asdud to get it.

Stone cold for me.
#28
I'm after a cheap one for my daughters bedroom, this will do nicely :) HOT from me.

wot changes?
[Moderator]#30
Im not a techie so dont know exactly. But a few weeks ago Freeview announced they were making some changes, and as a result some older freeview boxes may stop working and have to replaced.
#31
picked up 2 of these at a tenner today, they had a stack of there. they work well. no channel display on the actual box , but you don't really need one so voted hot. really easy to set up too.
#32
The freeview box in the pic isnt the one they'll be selling for £10 as those freeview boxes finished selling a year ago, i have one i know i think they will be selling a different one that stands on a base thin looking. ill try and find a pic for you guys.

If its the one im thinking of it has 1 scart connection.
#33
Got one this morning and it only has one scart. Size is about 7inch x 5 inch, very compact and comes with a stand if you want to use it vertically. Haven't plugged it in yet.
#34
well plug it in and tune it and tell the world if it is easy
#35
Pick one up this morning, 3 minutes to set up, cracking picture. The programme guide is nice and clear as well so overall a real bargain.

#37
Just the one.
#38
just to make sure that people don't confuse it with the expired dupe posting, here's a BUMP
#39
Anybody know what the model number is for this box please?
#40
I bought a freeview player from ASDA (in Birmingham) for £10 today, its great, perfect for bedroom.

Reception is surprisingly good, I thought we would have problems as normal TV reception so bad but this is fine..
