If the link doesn't work you have to go to http://www.richersounds.co.uk and click on the clearence bargains tab, then where your located and then freeview boxes.

Seems to look ok and by the looks of it, it does everything my £30 box from Tesco does + gives you the option to use top up tv as well.

Think you have to ring up to make the reservation as I couldn't see anywhere to buy online as I have tried to before as my nearest stores a good half hour drive to a scummy town thats full of chavved up drum n bass lovin', pill poppin' stains that went to private school but all have to talk like they come from Saaaaaaf London innit.

Brilliant price

I personally find Richer Sounds annoying when it comes to things like this. Their stock system is never kept up to date, and you will invariably find that these (especially when there is only 1) had been sold along time ago.

I still think it's worth giving them a ring for a tenner.

Oh yeah, give em a ring by all means, but when the stock shows as 1, its unlikely they'll have it.

I've never had any luck trying to buy a clearance item from my local Richer Sounds. They never seem very enthusiastic about selling the thing to me but usually put me off by saying stuff like "it doesn't come with a remote you know" (although I've tried enough different makes from various shops that I know that they often use the same remote) -- and that's assuming they have any left and they didn't "sell out yesterday".

They did once just give me a cable free of charge that I went into enquire about buying so they aren't completely unhelpful - it just seems they can't be bothered with the clearance stuff.

I have always had exceptional service from Richer Sounds. I bought a £500ish HiFi a couple of years back, and when there was a problem they gave me a replacement. I ended up having to get the next model up as a replacement at one point, and the managing director refunded me the £50 extra that it cost, plus £50 of vouchers for the inconvenience.

I've bought a couple of things there since then, and have always had great service. They actually know what they're talking about when you ask them questions, which is refreshing.

Absolutely right !!!

This is their good old sales tactic to get you on to their website. I have bought stuff from them but it is a nightmare tracking the stuff down.

Basically its a ploy to get you to look and buy something else. Sorry to be such a cynic though.

Sounds like they run the classic bait and switch.

The guide price indicates the base price that the unit is being sold for at our clearance bargains sections throughout the UK. As the condition of the units varies, these prices are meant as a guideline only.

Cmon guys this is richer sounds for christs sake. Up until a few years ago they were selling second hand items as brand new and boxed. I remeber I once bought a minidisc from them that I had to take back 4 times because they kept giving me faulty ones that were returned by someoneelse.

There is nothing wrong Drum n Bass, its people who stereotype the people that listen to it that are the problem. For the record no i'm not a 'chav' I just can't stand it when people label you something because of the type of music you appreciate.

Good deal btw, v.cheap!

I'm not sure what's happened at your local store, but I first found Richer Sounds 20 years ago and can assure you they were not selling second hand goods as new, but were often accused of doing so as they were also falsely accused of selling knock off gear by their competitors because of their ridiculous low prices.

At that time, and I believe still now, the goods they sold were often end of line, discontinued stock - perhaps that's why the item you bought was always faulty - you have to ask yourself why the manufacturer stopped production. ;-) (although there could be many reasons why). They sometimes also sell bankrupt stock too - but whatever they sell, they've never had an issue with providing a replacement or refund if the item is proven to be faulty.

If they were operating illegally or immorally as you suggest, do you really think they would still be successfully trading 20 years later?

Im on the lookout for a cheap-ish Freeview box but there are no richer sounds near me. Anyone got any pointers or anywhere to get them <£20 online?

You have to be wary in Richer Sounds, their image is designed to give an impression of outstanding customer service and care, but I had a trial working as a sales assistant. Basically, the vast majority of the promotion items don't exist, there is simply no stock of them. They use them to get you into the store and cross-sell to what they will claim to be a "superior" model for not much more. All RS products have a scale, certain products earn sales reps high rates of commission, others next to nothing. Naturally reps are encouraged to tempt customers into buying the higher rated items. Therefore, always stick to your guns, if a sales assistant trys to sell you an alternative, sleep on it, or make sure you demo it yourself.

Asda do one for about £19.99 but I don't know the model number or name (think the company is called ON)

Are these astratec models? The company went bankrupt I think so there won't be any updates to the firmware etc. A great price though. Still Richer Sounds offers are useless to me as I don't have a local store and their online shop is near enough useless with none of the great offers you get instore.
