While this isn't a bad price, do consider that all current Freeview boxes will be unable to play HD over Freeview, which has now been officially announced. 4 channels will be available, one is BBC HD, the other 3 are up for bidding from ITV, C4, C5 and S4C. These will only be available in areas once the analogue transmission has been completely shut off, which may not be until 2012 for some people.

Yes, you're right.

Lets all sit in the dark for 4 years until a suitable HD freeview box becomes available for probably well over £100.

You could equally say, "Oh, electric hybrid cars will be more available in 2012, so I'll wait until then to buy a car"

Freeview boxes could probably be found elsewhere for a bit cheaper, but it's down to whether you want those colour choices.

Even cheaper at £9.99, they also have the Silver version! The £14.99 one in the deal seems to be the black version.

Some reviews saying it gets a really good reception in bad reception areas. Some a great deal to me especially for the £9.99 white version
#6
no decent free delivery items, except the guitar but that is sold out. Order it in the end with a bag of cr*p. heat and rep given

It may be relevant for some, eg if you have a HDTV and not all areas have to wait until 2012. It is nice to know all the facts sometimes, people can choose if those facts are relevant or not to them so rep added to MrT2 for a well researched bit of background info.

Apparently these are made by Sony although I can't confirm this!
#9
None of the free delivery items are worth the bother, so £20.48 with delivery is not worth it, however, the white deal is better...

I think a mod just needs to change the price to £9.99 + delivery (£15.48 with P&P)

Kind of right.

They are made by Tvonics. It's a british company based in South Wales made up of ex-Sony freeview hardware/software engineers. When Sony stopped making STBs they formed their own company. Sony STBs were pretty much regarded as the best you could buy so there is a really good pedigree there.

Only downside is it has only one scart output.

I love the no bullshi1t description on their website, while at the same time being a pile of bukllsh1t

Let just cut the cra p, there are some things are truly British, fish & chips, bad weather, underage drinking and the right to express yourself!

This may sound silly, but we at BigPockets are sick to the back teeth about not being able choose what we want. Until now.

When it came to Freeview boxes, we have been denied this right. A monochromatic legacy of intolerance has frowned upon any freeview box that deviated from the correct colour palette. BigPockets has had enough, we are willing to put our neck on the line and say ‘We will give people choices!!!’

So we introduce to you the Tvoinics Prism in five different colours, so that every citizen can choose the color of their dreams. Whether you prefer black, pine, blue, pink, or denim, we have them all! I ask you to join me in this historic moment that gives us all our right to freedom.

I bought one of these TVonics boxes (branded Ferguson FD1 Prism) in Oct 2006 for £50. Reception is good and I did not need to have a new aerial fitted even though the digital website suggested I may need one. Only 1 scart output. The remote control is a victory of form over function. Only a few mm thick with blister-type buttons which gives no feedback whatsoever. I commonly found myself miss-dialling the channel numbers (and I cut my programming teeth on a ZX Spectrum !). EPG is quite slow and the box would re-boot occasionally.

No doubt knowing britian we will get a delay it's unlikely no one on freeview will get the HD channels untill 2012, when there also launching Freesat.

When they do come out no doubt the boxes will be £200 :whistling:

Freesat is launching in the spring - ie within the next few months, not in 2012.

Whats up with the site, when I am at the basket area, its more than 1 of this added and when I recalculate with the right quantity, more different items get added in the basket.

Ohh my, I am voting this COLD. The deal is great but the site is imo dodgy. Almost at checkout and instead of this iteam + bag o ****, I get to see bag o **** + Headphones. Thank F i hadnt given my Debit card details.

I've never had any problems with this retailer, using them for around 6 years I think. :)

I highly recommend bag of ****. :)
#26
I remember these being £55. It's a good box and well worth the price, even with postage. Not something I need myself as I've got freeview built into my TV now but still worth it if you're using an older telly. Hot.

Went for a silver one yesterday with a bag of cr*p and the chocolate dispnsers

good price I need a freeviewbox for my sons room

Ironically all the carping about HD makes this a better buy, not a worse one. Buy this now, use it for two years or whatever, then replace it with a HD one (if you can afford one and if the amount of programming makes it worth it.) I have a TV with a built in freeview receiver and there is no way I will be able to upgrade it.

Sorry I have to take issue with an earlier poster about Freeview and HD.

Freeview will not be HD in the near future and may never be. I think the poster is refering to the imminent launch of Freesat.

Freesat is launching in the next couple of months and will have HD content but is very different from Freeview.

Freeview is through an aerial and Freesat is through a satellite dish and the 2 technologies do not mix.

Thanks, I'm going to get one of these from tvoincs as posted above.

Also, Freeview HD is starting next year for the Granada winter Hill transmitter. see

Erm, freeview HD is already on trial in london.

The more expensive freeview boxes can already cope with a HD feed.
#34
I was one of the 300 or so people on the HD over freeview trial off the crystal palace transmitter ,but they are no longer broadcasting any content as the trial is effectivly over.

I still maintain it will be very unlikely we will ever see HD content on Freeview as when we get to 2012 and the Digital switchover is complete, the government will auction the bandwidth and the telcos will be the only people with deep enough pockets to buy it. I also think that the larger broadcasters will have their IPTV strategies in full swing by then and this will effectively kill any plans for terrestrial HD.

Only an opinion :)

Do you actually know what you are talking about? You can get HD in Freeview.
