Thanks for all the info. but how can anyone decide if its a good deal without knowing the weight?! What does "TWO large packets" mean? It means 500g per pack.

edited OP's post with weight and link to offer, basically 8% fat, £5/kg.

Actually the deal is even better as this particular packet of mince is included in the myPicks so you get two packs (1kg) for £3.72 :D

oooohhh yeaaahhhh, grindin' the pork. :{

etta191 - that's much better @ £1.86 for 500g. I could have added to my comments that you can get boneless leg of pork for £3 a kg or £1.50 for 500g and grind it yourself which would be cheaper again. You can then choose how much fat is in your meat. You need a certain amount of fat for flavor.

I agree. But don't forget the ballache of grinding it yourself and having to add the preservatives. The fat content is always a double-edged sword if you ask me. Too low means healthy but often tastes crap... I think 8% is just right..

I'll get my coat..

firstofficer - Glad you agree. Grinding your own meat gives you more control e.g. if you don't want preservatives, which you won't need if you freeze your meat. I agree with you about the double-edged sword - I suppose its a matter of taste. Personally, taste is more important especially when fat content is low, e.g. under 10%.

Another option is to add small amounts of your own fat to the lean meats for added flavour... Things like coconut oil have been shown to be very good for the heart thereby negating any ill health effects of the red meat. It will also add flavour, I'm sure..
