I have just been into Tesco today. They have fresh whole chicken weight 1.300kg at £1.99.
I purchased three to put in the freezer at that price. Going off the shelf quick.
Hope you feel it is a good deal.

I wouldn't feed my kids this kind of **** :whistling:

Am I the first to say it???????

Actually, I would happily do it, especiallyas they love a good roast

Apparently they have toilet paper on offer too........... stock up :whistling:

(Before anyone jumps in, Im joking..... despite my Dixons thread I remain positive  I saw these yesterday and the other half commented on how good they looked for the price!! heat added!!).

cheap - yes, humane - no
#7
No they wont be humane, but unless you are prepared and can afford to pay for organic free range, then don't kid yourself that any of the other chickens are having a happier time and just go for it

If your only judgement is based on cost then eat more vegetables. Cheaper, healthier, and when cooked right tastier than this stuff.
#9
Saw a poster ad for it yesterday. They call it the Tesco Market Value Chicken.
#10
Had one for tea last night - fed a family of five no problem and it was tasty. Thinking of stocking the freezer up at this price.

humane? aint we shooting people in desert areas for a laugh? charging people for cancer medicine? borrowing from future uk growth to prop up the banking system? looking at massive redundency and unemployment?

na your right, those chickens should have it better....

**** the chickens, give me cheap food.

Whats the problem of a civilised society caring about the quality of it's food. These chickens lie about in their own urine and faeces all day, I don't want it thanks :x
#13
We had one last night. Cooked up lovely! Gonna get another next time were in tesco. This is a new range they've just started doing we saw quite a few things in store, fresh veg, cereal, meat etc...

You are a mammal. A chicken is almost a mammal.

Just under 40p per head. Nice!

I don't care how bad this recession gets, I'd go without shoes on my feet before I would feed this filth to my family.

As for being "tasty" that will be the fat. The reprocessed fat that constitutes a significant part of an intensively reared chicken's diet. It is waste fat from other food processing and food manufacture operations that is fed directly to birds. And now it's inside your kids.

If it was important what kind of life you had you would feed yourself better quality food than this rubbish - its chicken by name alone.
This is however a great deal for those who simply cant afford to eat well.

I love the taste of animals, does that count?

There are sooooo mnay food snobs on here, many of whom almost seem to enjoy going on about how they can afford to eat better food.

Why are you on this page then? I hardly eat meat, but i do like chicken and don't really care too much where it comes from, i went to my butchers once and asked for a free range chicken, it was gonna cost £12, sorry but i'm on my own with 2 kids and I can't afford that, not when places like Tesco sell them for this price!HOT,HOT!!

have you ever seen the places they are produced in? you wouldnt eat chicken again. £12 for a chicken thats had a good life, well worth it

Is there a section on here for the animal lovers? Or a nutritional experts one? No? Pity!!!!:p

There's two really serious issues here.

1. Animal welfare. But fair enough some people just don't get it.

and (in my opinion of greater importance)
2. Human welfare. This is really low grade food that is really bad for you. Surely everyone understands that?

Nicely said! Got two, fillet em myself! Voted HOT and rep added

The only things bad about these intensively reared chickens are they are full of fat and not particular healthy , free range is obviously better but a 4x the price people just cant afford it including me.

Voted HOT BTW gonna get some for the frezer
#32
Anyone link any credible scientific study into how eating these chickens is dangrous to children/adults?

Or is this just a lot of poncing around by middleclass muppits that touch themselves when jamie oliver is on tv?

AGREED. If you dont buy this for the sake of animals then dont get for the sake of your selves! The quality of what you're eating is terrible.

Hot. Great for those with a family on a budget.
