yum, love lamb

Awfully cheap for British Lamb at this time of year.... even NZ frozen lamb is selling for more than this at the moment. Normally lamb prices drop a bit by August or September, when it is often at it's best value of the year; but as most lamb is still very young & small at the moment, it's still premium priced - if so, it is a brilliant deal - but like so many of these "stunning" deals, time will tell if it is more than a one-off at one store item, like the famed single 1kg of grapes for 50p at Sainsbury's yet which reached a heat of about 700!

I'll bide my time before voting!

It is not a one store deal, is on for this weekend nationwide.

Well, not being a Tesco regular shopper, as I hate the place, but if this is the case, then it's lamb this weekend

nihcaj, why not post some deals of your own, instead of moaning about other peoples deals...

7.95 per kg sound awful expensive to me. New Zealand lamb is between 3.89 and 4.39 per kg everywhere else. But because its fresh then 3.99 per kg is a good price, but still thing that 7.95 is over-inflated so they can make it "half price". Typical "half price" ripp-off.

Why not moan about someone else... you know, someone who cares?

Join the ranks of the blocked :-)

Well it is... probably at it's dearest at this time of year, other than actual "Spring Lamb"as mentioned before, hence being so surprised at this deal.... thing is, who has NZ legs at at £3.89 Kg at the moment? Last ones I bought a few weeks ago were a good bit more than that, and that was cheaper than the going rate.

To be fair, UK Hill farmers are not making anything like profit at the moment, a whole sheep is about 26/28 quid at the moment, so it's not them that are making excess profit :-(

Just seen a Tesco Ad on TV... sure enough, £3.99 /kg :-)

How easy are these to bone/butterfly?

Quite fancy sticking one on the bbq.

Easy enough if you are comfortable with these things and have a sharp knife... but I suppose it makes a difference whether or not the H-bone (Pelvis) has been removed - NZ legs of lamb are normally sold this way, and it only needs a long cut along the leg, and a bit of careful paring around the leg bone bones (it's the most fiddly around the (knee) joint), but traditionally butchers leave the H-bone there in in this country, so it is a lot harder and there is the potential to lose more meat in the process. (Then again, a traditional butcher will probably do the boning for you if you ask and give him time!)

Often supermarket ones, and more specifically vacuum packed ones do have the bone removed though (and consequently are even better value, as you are not paying for all the bone!)

Have a look first is all the advice I can really offer! A part boned one may have the ball shaped joint of the femur visible.

Well I hope it wasn't lamb from this offer, it is so long ago, it will be green and decomposing by now.

In a year you make just 23 posts, yet THIS long dead thread justifies one of them!?

Bizarre
