This is selling in Asda Living stores at £47 at the moment

It is quite a tiny box this one - compared to the older sets.

Why not blu ray?

Maybe it wasn't shot in HD.
There aren't too many TV shows which pre-date HDTV yet have been released on HD-DVD or Blu-ray (the only ones which spring to mind are the original 1960s seasons of Star Trek).
Friends was certainly broadcast well before HDTV took off, so Blu-rays will only be available if it was shot on film and Warner think it's worth remastering from scratch.
It also might be a bit pointless if widescreen versions of the masters aren't available.
Shame though!

EDIT:
BTW; this in-store deal is NOT "cheaper than online". It's a penny more (apart from you'd get 5% Quidco online and your discs sometime next year - assuming the CWU hasn't caused the complete bankruptcy of the Royal Mail).

Noticed that also. Very small box set.

Quite a hot deal! Been monitoring for a few weeks now, and it used to be around the £69.99 mark both at HMV and Amazon.

Apparently they opened a mock version of the Central Perk Cafe in central London for 2 weeks as part of their promotion for the 15th anniversary... sadly, its closed now, although apparently it wasn't really exactly the same layout etc but there was a fake Gunther and the famous orange sofa:

its for when you want to watch a specific episode
#13
Plus if you're a fan and you wanna watch quite alot in one go. Or you're not home when they're on on E4. You want the boxset? Hate adverts? The fact that E4 cut a few minutes out of each episode with the 'rude words'?
#14
Ah yes, 'Friends'

Yet another 'comedy' for people without a sense of humour

Just rang my local Asda Liviing and the price of this new version is £75 there ....

I'm gonna end up getting this at some point. I have all the videos so I really should make the move to dvd.
Are there any special features? Or is it just the episodes?
