Love to make the most of the bank holidays? How about heading away for the May Bank Holiday week to Verona and Lake Garda? A lovely city break in Verona first, you are going to be based at the Ibis which has free parking and you can then make the most of the attractions such as the arena, Castle and the 'authentic' Romeo and Juliette attractions, and not forgetting the amazing food.

Followed by a lovely 5 night break on the edge of a lake in the Garda area with gorgeous scenery and more lovely food (or just ice cream)! Take out a boat, do some lovely walks or just relax. The hotel has breakfast included and free parking again so you have ample opportunity to get out and explore.

Yes, buy the excess insurance online before travel, just don't buy them from the car rental company at the desk, as you might end up paying more for the excess insurance than the car rental cost itself. Also don't go into the ZTL zones in the major cities of Italy, you will get a fine plus also an admin charge from the car rental company.

Quite a few I would think - it's probably the closest airport for seeing the Cotswolds, Shakespeare's Stratford, etc. And just over an hour by Virgin Trains to London.

Personally, I'd sack off the car hire and save yourselves a few quid.

We went to Verona, Venice, Milan and Garda in August following a cheap flight deal on HUKD and the trains are reliable and reasonably priced:
Verona-Venice: £9.50pp
Venice-Milan: £17.50pp
Milan-Garda: £13pp
Garda-Verona: £3pp

So if you're just going to Verona and Garda, you may be able to knock another £85 off the price quoted above.

Having said that, I'm not sure I'd want to stay in Limone. It's a funny little town that's really interesting for a half-hour boat stop but I'm not sure how much else is going on there.

We stayed in Peschiera Del Garda and I'd highly recommend it - it's right by the train station and there's plenty going on. Hotel San Marco is reasonably priced, and while the rooms are a little dated, the exterior and more importantly, the location right on the lake are absolutely fantastic.
