Here is a lovely get away to Stockholm for 2 nights in April staying on a boat. Leaving on 20/04 and returning on 22/04 you'll have 2 nights/3 full days to explore Stockholm.

I've picked a boat accommodation, the MS Birger Jarl which is on Sodermalm which is easily connected with other parts of Stockholm via Slussen metro. There are plenty of good restaurants and bars nearby and it's easy to get around Stockholm. The Vasa museum is well worth a visit and certainly "take a chance" on the Abba museum (see what I did there)!!

The boat accommodation has private bathrooms and includes breakfast too which is a great deal as food can be quite expensive in Sweden.

Details

Book 2 nights on the MS Birger using code AFFVC0317 £88.74 http://ebookers.com

Book 2 return flights £67.96 http://ryanair.com

Total £156.70/£78.35pp

+ Transfers: 556kr for 2 adults return which is just over £50.

looks good but £ 78.35 for breakfast seems a little steep? :p

Isn't Skavsta a 90 minute (300 Kroner bus ride into Stockholm)?

Yeah, Skavsta is in Nykoping, which isn't even the closest major town to Stockholm. It would be like having a London Northampton airport.

For £34 each way maybe you'd still want to do it, just bear that in mind.

Is Northampton really that bad as Skavsta isn't a place I can imagine anyone intentionally visiting? And when you add in the cost of the bus & the 3 hour return 'shuttle' - it's not £34 - which will probably get you a pint in Stockholm itself...

No it's not!
Using your link it's 556kr for 2 adults return which is just over £50.

I've done the trip, there' s no cheaper option.

Yes, exactly around £12pp each way. Google maps suggest it's a 1hr 15 minute journey each way.

I'd expect you to use the true cost rather than a hypothetical one way trip for one person on a deal for two people flying from the UK & back.

Have you seen the violence going on in Stockholm these days? No thanks.

I just got back from Stockholm last week and saw no violence. Not even many refugees around the city. Its has a nice water front setting and must be nice in proper summer.

Gamla Stan (and most of the city centre) is lovely all year round.
Sweden isn't cheap (avoid spirits/cocktails as they are taxed most heavily)
Pressbyran sell a decent coffee and snack for around £2.
As with anywhere, touristy places (e.g. Gamla Stan) are more expensive but there is always Lidl or McDonalds in a crunch.

You can get a local bus/ train to the town near Skavsta airport but you'd still need a taxi to the airport.
Västerås and Arlanda both have a train to Stockholm, Bromma is actually on the Underground network.
