Frozen chicken breasts - £3.20/kg @ Tesco

Before I get flamed by the Chicken Liberation Front, yes I know these will be poor lickle chickens locked in boxes and never allowed to see their mummies. TBH I don't care though, cos I'm a heartless meanie. Find me the same product cheaper, or stay out of the thread.

Anyway, Tesco value chicken fillets arew £3.20/kg, which seems rather cheap to me. Yes they are the added water/salt/sugar ones, so not as good as the more expensive stuff, but I'm buying them to bulk out a curry rather than eat in a salad.

Cheap chicken... Nom nom nom.
#5
Agreed and rated. Nice price for cheapy chicken :)
#6
I am certain that my shop bought sandwich this lunch time contained poorly treated poultry, it tasted great. Why save the fun for in work, help abuse chickens at home :whistling:

Nice price for handy freezer fodder
#7
I've subscribed to this one as they just can't help themselves, but well done on getting past 20 mins with no grief.
Heat added btw.
#8
Yes I loved the opening paragraph - well done!
#9
If you get two of these breasts defrost them, them stitch them together at the top and bottom,

sorry i will keep this one to myself.

I just don't see the point of these, if you want to be cruel to an animal, then by all means get yourself a BB gun and go on a kitten shoot, or burn a dog with cigarette butts. This cheap chicken nonsense just seems to be for there to cater to the namby pamby, liberal, lightwieghts that haven't got a clue how to really make an animal suffer.
#14
Simply ASDA is the same price is it not?

well it was £3.20 last time i bought it in ASDA, bought some of this in tesco last night :) will review later lol
#15
Try them, I did and if you look at them closely you will see signs of tenderising. This actually doesn't work because they are still tough. IMHO these breasts come from what used to be known as old boilers, that is birds that no longer economically lay eggs. Also they are full of water....
#16
This isnt chicken.
It's water with chicken added.

Exactly.

Let's not let something as stupid and irrelevant as morals and conscience get in the way of saving a few pennies here and there.

Factory animals FTW!

Agree entirely, this aint the PETA website ;-)

have some heat and get the chicken cooked.

Good deal! Heat added.

The value ones probably don't taste any different to the others. Bought the 'discount brands at tesco' (********, it's all tesco branded anyway) ones and they were tiny, full of added water and only four in a bag. Better quality meat than the big bag of chicken 'fillets' (god knows whats in them) from Sainsburys but still not great.
#22
No worse than what goes into KFC or bought pies

Come on people buy some chicken, don't let the poor creatures have died in vain

lol
any idea what the minimum percentage of chicken is in a product for it to be called chicken breast fillets?

(in case you;re wondering, I;m wondering for health reasons, rather than poor deal/animal cruelty reasons)
#24
This is actually more than they used to cost (£2.99), which they've been for years.

Props to OP for making people aware but its lukewarm from me

They still taste good in a curry anyway so no complaints from me

Agree - this is crappier than Tesco normal crappy chicken!
#27
I think if intensively farmed chicken tasted as good as free range (or close to, with the chicken having a proper diet and life cycle) I would probably eat more cheap chicken.

However, the fact is, and what a lot of you are missing, is that it simply doesnt. If you care about what you eat, you will spend a little more buying quality chicken and eating less of it overall.
#28
The word must have got out on the CLF website 'cos they are starting to pile in. What took them so long?

And back to the subject (hint hint)...... I won't be buying these as I prefer slightly better quality meat than the frozen bargain end. Not that the taste of the meat has anything to do with how happy the chicken was just before it was executed.

You're right, it's usually about how content the animal was for it's entire life cycle.

The sooner we get Soylent Green onto the shelves the better.

I don't understand why people are cold voting this, it’s a good deal- which this site is about. Just because you don't eat it doesn't make it a bad deal! I’m sure Jews or Muslims don’t down vote pork threads.
#31
same price as asda mate.
#32
An old colleague of mine has just returned from Poland setting up the production of frozen chicken pieces for Tesco's, so they will soon be Polish free range and very happy birds, not these ones from Brazil, that should make more people happy. Anyway vodka is cheaper than water in Poland so they should have a great flavour
#33
All taste the same when you put a bit of Nandos Hot sauce on it!!!! Voted Hot

£4.20 /kg fresh from my butcher :)

What has the taste of the meat got to do with then?

Really? Ours wants more like £7 :x

EDIT: Oh yeah, Stafford Asda only has them at £4.84, which is why I thought this was cheap. Guess ours doesn't stock everything.

So you've spent two years in a cage the same size as your body with not enough space to even turn around then...

Cheap, poor quality chicken, raised in terrible conditions.

Perfect for the HUKD chavs to fill their freezers with.

Personally, I wouldn't touch it with a bargepole.
#39
This isn't a "Deal", it's just cheap chemical-fed, water-filled rubbish selling at its retail price. Irrespective of the chickens' quality of life, at least have more respect for your own people!
