Your alright with this veg and stuff as long as you eat it within a few days doesn't keep like other supermarkets or local shops so won't be voting good deal though sorry

Coventry Radford branch was almost fruit & veg free when I called in after 7pm, especially the 39p offer range:-(

Still a small number of the "credit crunch" crowd in though, I wish they would go back to shopping at wherever it was they used to shop with their unruly brats and leave it for us plebs and Poles like it used to be. One of the less predictable drawbacks of recession afflicted Britain!

They have had 39p fruit and veg for a while, if you get there in the morning you will get some but normally run out be 5 ish
(the raspberry and strawberry jam(conserve) is really good though if you do go in)

Not true in the slightest IME. We frequently plan meals a week in advance around the Aldi veg deals and never had a problem. Lidl on the other hand can be hit and miss.

Always dubious of cheap / discounted fruit and veg - usually means it's only good for a day or so

Rubbish.

Try buying a new fridge - my last one used to either partially freeze, damage or dehydrate veg too, wherever it was bought - my current one lets me keep fruit & veg (that needs refrigeration) for longer than I ever thought practical! I have a Swede in there now now that is 4 weeks old, and is unblemished -so old I doubt it is worth the bother of eating, yet is undamaged! Even fragile lettuce lasts something like two or three times longer than it did with the old fridge

You go on thinking that, toddle off to Waitrose or wherever, and I'll have more room for a quick and comfortable shop in Netto, Aldi or Lidl, and pay a more sensible price too.

Unfortunately so many have realised what a good bet the European supermarket chains are, the places are now cluttered with former mainstream supermarket shoppers, who stand out like a sore thumb, as I commented on in my first post :-(

"It found shopping at a discounter could be up to 61% more expensive than sticking to a budget range at a standard supermarket."

Couldn't disagree, and I always knew this.

Buy "Smartprice" type crud (eg. 80p pink gloop "Sausages") and it is undoubtedly cheaper. Aldi Lidl and Netto shopping is about getting either brands or other more premium products far cheaper than the big supermarkets.

In other words comparing chalk with cheese!

In the meantime, while the bargain hunters of Tesco and Asda munch away on their 20p watery "Value" baked beans, I am pecking away at my Lidl 99p single estate Madagascar Chocolate or quaffing a nice own label Lidl Scotch Malt Whisky whilst awaiting forever for the appearance of comparable products in those value ranges - perhaps some "Smartprice" Lobsters or "Basics" Piccante Gorgonzola as well as Tesco "Value" 24 month old Parmigiano Reggiano so a real comparison can be made!

You hit the nail on the head there. There are still some poor quality products in LIDL/ALDI but there is also a lot of premium stuff at a much cheaper price than the big four!
