I saw in my local Sainsbury's this camera for under £50 - which considering I bought it just 6 weeks ago refurbished direct from Fuji for £75 is a bargain.

Has anyone been able to find one of these in their local store?
I have called around 4 of my local stores in Kent, 3 of which had no stock and the other is on the system as £129.99.
DeeInLondon - what store did you see this and did they have many in stock?
I would love one for Scuba diving as this is a great camera when used with the underwater housing, made even better by the price!

OK - Updates. I phoned a load more stores when I got home from work and found stock in Sydenham, London. I took a trip and picked one up, they had 2 more remaining when I left there at about 22:00pm on Thursday. If anyone is interested, phone them up and they will hold it for you.
A word of warning, they didnt have them on display, but had them in the store room, so ask!
Hope this helps someone. Heat and rep added!

Wow! I have this camera too, and paid about £100 from play.com in May this year!

Great find, well done

The Store I saw the camera in was in Perivale - off the A40 - they had one on display and a card detailing the spec - the price could have been a misprint perhaps because I noted it said 4 x optical zoom, 3 x digital zoom which I believe is backwards.

Don't know if they had any in stock as I already have the same camera and didn't need another one.

wow looks a nice camera....Fuji FinePix F40fd Digital Camera - Gunmetallic (8.0MP, 3x Optical Zoom ) 2.5" LCD
I get an extra 10% off at sainsbury's. Does this camera take XD cards as I already have a Fuji camera but would like to upgrade.
#12
Its a chunky camera and does not have favourable reviews, its not in the same league as the earlier 7mp f30/1 just because it is newer does not equate to it being a better camera.

For £50 its a good deal, but if you want quality pics try and get an f30.

I bought one of these a few months ago at asda for this price, but after reading reviews i returned it as for all the features it did not deliver the goods. As they say you get what you pay for?

Takes both XD and SD.

When this was advertised here on the Boots offer, there were plenty of links to reviews. All glowing. What Camera's Best Buy etc. It was the f50 that got muted praise.
#14
It is not a chunky camera in any way. It is not quite as good as the F30 and F31 in low light situations, but to say that it doesn't get favourable reviews is simply not correct.

http://www.dcresource.com/reviews/fuji/finepix_f40fd-review/

"Photo quality is really where the FinePix F40fd struts its stuff. The camera takes sharp, well-exposed photos with accurate colors, and very little noise -- even at ISO 800. "
#15
I cannot agree with 'sedj'. I have this camera which I use alongside my Canon dlsr equipment and it produces very good results especially considering it a compact camera. I have produce many pin sharp A3+ prints from it. I know it doesn't have all the modes the f31fd has but it still produces great results and at the price mentioned can be considered a bargain.

If my local store has them in stock I will get another as a back up.

I got mine home last night and realised that I was given the box with no camera in it! Just phoned the store and they said I have the box for the display model...looks like another 80 mile round trip tonight!!
Anyway, from the dispaly model I saw, by no means is it chunky, its fairly small and the reviews are excellent. Obviously it is an older model, but for £50, you cant really complain.

I just got one from the Fuji reconditioned offer for £56 after discount and was well impressed....... seems to take well balanced photos from what I've seen!
BTW, if anyone wants a F30/1, then check out fleabay 'cos they're going for around the £200 mark 2ndhand!
All in all I'd rather have the f40fd for 50 quid.... might even buy a second if I can get hold of one

Nothing around Nottingham.

I was thinking of getting one of these as an upgrade to my F30 !!!

Why are F30's selling for £200 on fleabay - I only paid £150 new over a year ago ??

Thanks for the idea. I've heard it is a great camera. Unfortunately, the link does not go to the camera deal, but only to Sainsbury's home page. Even then, I have found it impossible (!!!) to find this deal online. Is it only available instore? If so, please state that. Thank you.:x

I've just got the last one from Sainsburys in Hedge End southampton.
Just charging the battery now ...

thanks very much guys ... I've been after a good camera to replace my old cybershot when its focus stopped focusing ...

I've looked at lots of camera's including fuji before but was put off by all the different memory card formats. I'm pleased it takes both xd and SD, as i've got loads of SD Cards for various things at home and just bought an 8gb one from the guy who posted the offer on here the other day.

I got it at this Canadian Fujifilm site...... disclaimer is use it at your own risk, however it worked great for me and was really easy.

F40fd
In March 2007, Fujifilm released the F40fd, priced at $299. The F40fd is considered to be the successor to the F20, with many new features, most notably a bump to 8.3 megapixel resolution and face detection. The F40fd is noted for its powerful flash, however, it shares the reduced battery capacity and reduced ISO of the F20 (2000 maximum, compared to 3200 on the F30/F31fd). With this camera, Fijifilm introduced the ability to utilize either xD-Picture Card or SD memory cards.[6] Support for SDHC memory cards was added by the free 1.10 firmware update available from Fujifilm's website[1]. The F40fd is also sold under the name FinePix F45fd with only cosmetic differences.

I phoned about 5 stores that were nearest to me (Doncaster) earlier this week and got no joy, went to Hull today and called in to Sainsburys and managed to get the last one, excellent camera and excellent find!

Heat and rep left, cheers

Picked one up from orbital centre Cannock. Phoned up customer service on a 0800 number and she checked stores for me, even called and reserved the camera for me. 10 out of 10 for the service i got. Camera is good. Go back 8 years and with this type of spec in a film camera would have cost more. Thanks original poster

Guys,

I feel like crying ... was showing some people around London yesterday, tripped and fell with camera in hand - unfortunately I just taken a photo and the lens was out - and ended up being bend out of alignment ... Only had my Camera for about 8 weeks ... Don't even think anything I have covers it for accidental damage thought maybe my Halifax Platinum Card might have some kinda of accidental cover but can't even find the card itself mentioned on their website

:-(
