How do you think this compares with the Casio we recently missed out on Edi?

At first glance it appears to have a few more megapixels, a wider digital zoom range, and a larger viewing screen.... and they even mention image stabilisation!

Gets a 'Hot' vote from me anyway, but I think I will wait for a few more comments before I actually order one!
#6
I bet this takes better quality photos then my SONY CYBERSHOT T-100 i ordered last week!

Paid £210 for the camera + £40 for the case + £65 for the HD Docking station.

But the photos are worse quality then my Old casio EXLIM camera which i got from asda!

Had an old Konica 3.2mp camera bought about 5 or 6 years ago, and the picture quality is much better!

Not a happy bunny!

I have had three finepix cameras now and used many others. Personally I prefer them to any other brand. Voted hot cheers!

Kodak would not use xd cards for one thing

Just a quick question. How do you get 1000 points? In my checkout it is showing just over 400. I have gone over the £100 too. TA

Please take it back - what a total waste of money...you could have have got the award winning Nikon D40 DSLR for that price :w00t:

Stick to Fuji or Panasonic if you don't wish to go DSLR.

I've had a good look and can't find any reviews of this camera on the internet. I agree about the ISO range, but having said that, if it works as well as the F20 up to ISO800 then it's a bargain (the F20's ISO1600 is really pushing it for printable pictures). Also may be worth noting that I read somewhere that the F480 has a 28mm equivalent lens which is a wider angle lens than on the vast majority of compact cameras and would make it better for group shots. Also, the 4x optical zoom may be useful to some. I'm not in the market for I new camera at the moment, but if I was I'd be totally unsure which of these to go for!

This is supposedly a new camera out!

Ive ordered it for a birthday present for my sister...lets see

video spec seems surprisingly poor (only320x240) compared to the standard you would expect these days (640x480).

To answer an earlier posters question. No, i would not expect the quality of photos from this to match that of the F20, F30 etc (which all have the larger and superior super CCD sensor, this has a 1/2.5" sensor and also more pixels in that smaller area - more pixels is not always better, contrary to popular opinion!). Having said that, this looks to be a good camera for the money and Fuji dont generally make duff cameras.

Thanks for the expert input which confirms my suspicion that the F20 is a better camera at a better price although the 28mm would be nice.

I bought the F20 earlier this year, apart from the price of the xd cards it was a nice camera alas i had it stolen in Sardinia in the summer and decided to get a cheap Canon to replace it.

True, the 28mm would be useful, but for me i feel it comes at too much of a price. The Fuji super-ccd compacts with manual control - F11, F30, F31(fd) are probably the best compacts made to date. (although cameras using sonys older 1/1.8" 7.1mp ccd are also very very good)

I have my F20 set to ISO1600. should i set it to ISO800 or Auto or keep as is? Thanks

This review has little good to say about the F480 in comparison to the F30, which is the sister of the F20.

My recommendation is to stick to the F20 if you have it ordered. The F480 is just out (due to be released in Oct 2007 if you read around) and is retailing for $170 in the US, so its not quite the bargain Boots would have you believe.

Hope this helps.

I think you mean Auto 1600 - if you do then that is fine as it will only select 1600 if it absolutely has to (ie very dark room and flash turned off)

It will use 200, 400 etc when the light permits giving you much crisper images with less noise.

Most camera's at this level can only dream of getting results at iso 1600 - Fuji are unmatchable in this area.

Umm, bad review then should i cancel it?

Just checked i cant cancel it...how **** is that!

That was just one person's opinion, so I wouldn't personally be in too much of a hurry to do so.

Still looks to me like a good buy for the price.

Looking at the Fujifilm website it also takes the SDHC cards...
It's a bit too early to say whether this is a good camera, the F50 looks really good and is a better spec'd camera but apparently is grainy at 12mp(100 iso!).

It has an AUTO setting which you can override to manual 200....1600. So you are saying as I have it set manually to 1600, it will use lower if it decides it needs to? Thanks

BTW, what exactly is the benefit of a higher ISO setting? I have it set to FINE as well (6MP).

I want to go for this deal. Best for the money overall it appears. However .. tho the Discount Code works a treat... the idea of knocking the price above the £100 mark to get the 1000 Clubcard Points doesnt! Only 400 .. is this some kind of crazy expired offer perchance?. I think we should be told!.

Cheers!

Just set it to AUTO 1600 !!!! - no manual overide is needed. DO NOT set to forced iso 1600, this will take every pic at 1600 and give you worse results.

Leave it at this then it will select correct ISO for you depending on the light.

Just think of ISO as the following - Sunny day iso 100 or less, dark room with just candle light iso 1600

If you want a detailed explanation....try googling !!

Re-read my post and you'll see I only have an AUTO setting, not an AUTO 1600!

There is no point at all in quoting US prices as we all know there is no relevance to the UK. Boots is currently the cheapest for this model in the UK.
