Manufacturer's Description
The FinePix F40fd features stunning, slim-line design, 8.3 megapixel high-performance Fujifilm Super CCD sensor, 3x optical zoom lens and an easy-to-view 2.5-inch LCD monitor. The FinePix F40fd also features low-light performance of ISO 2000 at full resolution and Fujifilm's unique Intelligent Flash system, which enables users to capture natural looking images without the 'washed out' effect that can be the result of traditional on-camera flash.Fujifilm's hardware-based Face Detection technology captures up to ten faces in a frame in as little as 0.05 seconds, optimizing focus and exposure to take the best portrait shots. Face Detection sets imagination free to compose photos without the need to manually set the camera to get the best photo; a simple push of the shutter button is all that is required. In playback mode, Face Detection can be used to maintain faces as the key focus of a photo when cropping or zooming in.

Product Description
The new FinePix F40fd is the latest in Fujifilm's flagship range of F series compact digital cameras. Featuring Fujifilm's proprietary Real Photo Processor II, Super CCD HR VI and hardware-based Face Detection, the new model continues the F series tradition of delivering sophisticated technology in a smart compact body. Added to this, ISO 2000 sensitivity at full 8.3 megapixel resolution, 3.0x optical zoom lens and 300 shot battery life make it perfect for prolific snappers or enthusiast photographers who need a high-performance take-anywhere digital camera.

If only we lived Stateside...cos there, this fantastic little camera is being cleared out for about £50 over there!

It's a great camera....however it's been available for quite awhile for £99.99 now. It's actually cheaper to buy from Play.com at about £91 delivered (due to being able to use Quidco & promotional codes)

Just in case people didnt know, this is three generations old, and has been superceded by the new and more expensive F40 and F100 models.

Still a good camera for the price though!

Just bought one of these from a local independent for £115 just for the convenience of being able to take it back easily if I didn't like it.

Have to say it's a great compact. A mate has the Fuji S9600 and the photos this camera takes are on a par with it.

According to the reviews I have read the later versions in this range appear to have compromised other things in order to bump up the MP and reckon that this model and the earlier F30 FD are the best all round cameras in the range.

I would strongly recommend the F40 FD, especially if you take a lot of photos in low light and don't want to use the flash.

If you want to go the 'local' route for immediacy & convenience & are prepared to pay that bit extra, then this is the same camera model (but in a nicer more sought after colour) from Argos...

(though I'd expect the price to be trimmed soon.....cos even last November they were doing it for £89.99 as a special!)

I think the percentage in the USA is slightly higher where it's everyones right to own a gun in fact if we want to get down to specifics there are more gun related crimes in Washington D.C. in a year than in the whole of the UK.

I did see the Argos deal but the indie shop threw in two years warranty (manufacturers is one year as standard) and a decent brand 1GB SD card...
