Hey all, Just saw this in my local tesco EXTRA in the reduced aisle.

Excellent 5.1mp 10X super zoom mini SLR Style camera for £69.99!!

This is a great price.

They also had nokia 6050's for £15 on tesco mobile, amongst other amazing products.

I have this camera and it is worth the money easily, but in no way is it a "mini SLR" it has a fixed 10x optical zoom which you cant change, but it does take great pics.

Read the details 'mini SLR Style ' STYLE is the word here.

As in its not a compact camera cos it has a ruddy great lens on the front of it. And it protrudes.

Nice find (the next model up, the S5700, is around £90-£100) BUT I'm pretty sure this is NOT a Digital SLR - it's still a compact with some SLR-like features.
If I'm wrong I apologise - voted hot anyway!

Ok SHOWMAN36 and aircanman beat me to it...
#4
Nice price, however it does use XD cards... which is great if you have them. The newer ones take a combo of XD and SD

For this price, Tesco have technika cams, which are actually £10 more.

Granted they may be 12mp, but I would rather 5.1mp of fuji, than 20 of Technika. This is an ace camera for the money.

TITLE DID SAY MINI SLR, I AM SO SORRY.

DETAILS SAID SLR STYLE!!!

Just wanted to share the deal, not have to answer these types of questions.

Read the details 'mini SLR Style ' .

It's still a misleading title. SLR is the mechanism by which the photographer views the subject. You see exactly what will be captured on film, as opposed to a non-SLR camera.

This 'style' of camera is known as a super zoom digital camera.

Good find though. :)

There we go, edited. Just wanted to include as much info as poss. This, for anyone who is interested is marketed sometimes as a Baby SLR. As it has alot of features that an SLR camera has. It does not have interchangable lenses. Just has a similar feel to that of an SLR.

I have this as a second camera and it takes excellent pictures. I paid an awful lot more for it than that though

Great find

I paid £200 for one a couple of years back but never knew if a picture was going to be good quality till i got home and looked at it on the pc,I wouldn't buy another Fuji because of this i now have a panasonic fz8 which is far superior.Mine was sold on ebay a few months after i bought it at a big loss. But its a good price.

Voted Cold, not a good deal at all when you look at the specs. even having SLR in the desription at all is irrelivent and misleading.

Well Steve's Digicam's web site says:

Bottom line - Fuji has struck gold with this winning combination of versatility, great image quality and robust performance. With a street price of $399 or less, the S5200 offers an excellent value for an SLR style "super zoom" model. And, it can be used by any member of your family no matter what level of experience they have or what event you may be attending. We feel this model will make a great choice for any family, business, tourist or nature photographer in the market for an affordable digicam with a generous zoom range and the ability to capture and create beautiful prints; whether you're expecting the typical 4x6- inch print or a massive 13x19-inch.

I have this camera. Very good! These are the pics it can take. (not mine)

Damn, havent got a tescos direct near me anywhere, am after a camera such as this, and this seems like an excellent price.

Hmm, any chance of someone buying this and sending it to me, maybe I could pay via paypal.
#21
I've never liked the image quality of Fuji products but for this price, I'd recommend friends to buy this camera if they were in the market for a decentish PAS.
#22
I had this camera until it got wrecked by spray on a RIB boat.

It was so easy to use and took great pictures. OK for £70 and 5MP it's not going to take Grade 1 shots but you really wouldn't be able to tell on 95% of pictures.
#23
Hot from me, if you want a big zoom and small budget, I don't think you'll find much to match this. Yes you can spend more and get better, but isn't that always the case!
#24
Has anyone else had any luck finding it in a tesco extra? I have two near me but not sure if its a nationwide offer of a one off in one store?
#25
Very nice for the money, tempted but only recently bought a new Fuji compact, would love 10X optical though.

You obviously subscribe to the Megapixel myth then.

I still have this camera and it is great. 5mp is about right for most people, I wouldn't go near one of these new compacts squeezing in 12mp and compromising on image quality.
#27
hot hot hot and some more hot!!!!!!!! Got the S5700 version and the S8000 and I cannot recommend these cameras enough...photo quality is superb and I'm not actually sure what else to write here but I kinda love my cameras and if anyone touches them I lay them out big style!!!:whistling:

I think I'm going to vote cold on this cos it uses the word SLR.

This is NOT a Single Lens Reflex camera at all.

And I think I spotted a couple of spelling mistakes too so wont give rep either.

I think it's time for me to cry.

Now where's me bottle gone!!
#29
5 MP is more than enough for most people....you only need more MP if you are blowing your photos up alot bigger than A4....and then at 5mp its not even that bad.

tried and tested!!

This is a great price for a hybrid slr style camera.I started with a similiar fuji some years ago and it helped gain my confidence to upgrade to true digital SLR via canon :).

Fuji have reputation of seemingly being less good in indoor/low light or darkness and colours apparently not always accurate but overall good camera at an unbeatable price.

The prob with these offers is they attract critism from the anoraks!..enjoy for the monies :)
#31
Good camera. Quite old now - but worth double that price.
#32
Nice find and voted hot but nothing much except cheap lightbulbs at mine.
#33
good ideas- shame i got the canon ixus and 400d but can we stop on bickering
great deal for the price hot
#34
Not a bad camera and easy to use in low light conditions - much easy to autofocus than an SLR. The term that should be used for this camera is a bridge. Its not a point and shoot but its not an SLR so its a bridge. It has a good ISO range and 15 second long exposure. The images are not as sharpe as an SLR but it can do RAW so they can be edited later.

Come on then 'Mr Expert' - tell everyone where you find a 10x Optical Zoom camera with a Super CCD sensor with 5mps (or more) for <£69.99 :whistling: ........ oh you've gone quiet all of a sudden?! :whistling:

HEAT and REP added to the OP- and well deserved IMHO.

It's not a fantastic camera, but that is not the point - the point is the DEAL. This is a very good camera for the price and will appeal to a lot of people.

Agreed, it is NOT an SLR, but it's not being labelled as one (the post clearly references 'mini SLR style' with style being the operative word!). The SLR reference is to the 'body design' not the functionality of the camera - anyone with half a brain knows this is not a true SLR (or DSLR).

One thing to those who are interested in this camera, this has a cracking sensor (the Super CCD) which is BETTER than the standard CCD sensor in the S8000FD - this is one of the major drawbacks of the S8000. So if you want a half-decent long zoom camera - get one of these if you can in your area, you won't regret it.

Oh, and whilst you are being so picky and shouting your 'expert' mouth off .. try a spell checker next time before submitting your informative reply :giggle:

I have one of the S5700's.

Great camera, yes, but not perfect. It suffers from purple fringing and quite bad macro barrel distortion. I suspect this one is the same.

However, still a great camera for the price.

Just to clarify, when originally posted, it stated in the title that this was a "Mini SLR". The reason I (and I expect others) asked the OP to change this, was because it was misleading. i.e. People reading this forum in text view, whether they have "half a brain" () or not, would not have been able to tell that it wasn't a SLR, unless they clicked on the thread and read the actual post.

Man this place is so full of 'wannabee snobs'!

Look at the camera - look at the specs - and look at the price!

Great deal!

Voted Hot. Can't believe how picky you people are being. The guy wanted to share a great deal with you and all you do is pick holes in him. You sound like arsey teenagers.
