thanks. a great deal. i've been looking for a high end qaulity camera for a while, but they're usually in the region of £200. Voted Hot!

i've just had a little read about this camera, and though it is not a true DSLR camera, it is possible to buy an adapter that allows you to attach a wide angle lense... great for those budding ametuer photographers out there.

A very nice camera indeed!

A review here for anyone interested click you get quite a bit of camera for your money.

Thanks for the pointer :)

Not a bad camera. Picked one up about 3 months ago from Argos for £112.

I bought one of these in December when Argos had them for £114.

Although not technically a SLR they do have the features of a SLR and are very easy to use.

The picture quality is very good and the 10x zoom is excellent. Also this camera uses standard AA size batteries and the life of the batteries is very impressive when used with 2500mah or 2700mah batteries. I use rechargeable 2700mah batteries and they lasted me a whole weekend in Budapest where I took over 400 photos. I use the Uniross 1 hour charger that I got from Amazon which comes with 4 2700mah rechargeable batteries and a car adaptor too.

All in all a very good camera for the price. Also maybe worth checking out Amazon for XD memory cards. I got a 1Gb one for £14. Jessops are selling them for £69...lol...I did ask in store if they had sold many and he said no not really. I asked if they would price match for £14 and showed him the invoice from Amazon and he laughed and wandered off. Nice Jessops service.

I bought this camera in March 2006 for £200 (a good price at the time).
I really like this camera, okay its not a proper DSLR but it has all the features and its not so cumbersome, Its really light, when it was first delivered I thought the camera was missing from the box until i opened it!
55mm filters screw directly into the barrel so no adaptors are required. The only thing that I dont really like is the manual focus, its a bit fiddly to work with and can be hard to tell whether its in sharp focus, having said that I use it in auto focus 99% of the time.

I've had this since the Argos deal last year, fantastic camera and well worth the money.

Those batteries are cheap but I have tried 2 types of rechargeable and got better results from Uniross and Energizer 2700mah batteries than from cheaper 2700mah batteries.

I've been using this for a long time in radio microphones, and a few other applications, and they've been great batteries.
Anyhow. I'll post how I find them with this camera when I get my camera. ;-)

This is a good camera but quite an old one now. As other posts suggest this pricing (and sometimes lower) has been around for a while. The lack of anti-shake technology and relatively poor handling of higher ISOs restrict its ability as a long zoom - especially for candid photography. The Kodak Z612 or Panasonic FZ7 are better buys - or if on a really tight budget the outgoing Olympus SP-510.
#14
It says it has anti-shake technology.

It says it has anti-shake technology.

It does not have the advanced control of the optical lens mechanism or sensor that the latest cameras have - these compensate for handheld shake by moving the lens elements or the sensor as the picture is taken so that the image is sharp. The Fuji tries to manage this anti-shake by increasing the ISO (the equivalent of using a faster more grainy film) but this is not very successful.

Great price for a quality 5mp 10x

Ah! I see. I'm not really an expert with cameras, so thanks for the tip :)

when buying my digital slr I looked at these and found the specs to be pretty poor, and the fact you couldnt change the lense sucked.

After trying it out I found it was worth spending the extra money and buying a decent cam.

Still a hot deal though

You can get some good results out of this camera, I bought it last year when it was £112 at Argos.

would this be the next one up: I actually want the finepix s6500fd
this is listed without the fd, does any one know if this is the same???

This is a fantastic camera, my gf bought one recently and it's mightily impressive, definately worth the money.
#23
I got one of these last year at Argos and it use it more than my Canon which cost twice as much.

I bought it for the zoom but I've ended up having loads of fun with the manual features. To be fair, if I could have got the Panny FZ7 at a decent price I might have gone for that instead as it's got higher resolution and anti-shake. So make your own descisions but you can't really go wrong with baby.

Not the same - fd is face detection (useful for off centre pictures). S6500 is a vastly improved camera over the earlier model with a very useful wide angle 28-300 equivalent lens and many other benefits.

its the S6000 in the US - here is a useful review

http://www.steves-digicams.com/2007_reviews/fuji_s6000fd.html

There is no version of the S6500 without face detection so don't be put off if the fd is absent from the description...

I think you mean the Anti Blur setting which just sets a faster shutter speed. This is ok in good light but not much use in lower light conditions when the lens aperture will probably be at it's biggest already.

Have to agree with this.

I also got one in the Argos deal,

Lovely to use, it has a very tactile feel about it,
also important for me, It can be a very easy point and shoot camera.

Also the zoom is brilliant.
#27
I've been using mine on the "N" setting which delivers remarkable colour improvements over Auto or P. If the shutter speed is slower I don't really notice it.

Criticisms are minor and for the price its pretty impressive. The biggest gripe is the pics look pixellated onscreen compared to other cameras I've owned. I've read this is a function of the Fuji CCD.

Thanks for that! I've cancelled my order with them, and replaced it at the lower price. This deal gets better and better. :)

The much improved S5700 is out in March - interestingly PC World Business have it for £135.13 (incl VAT) + £5 (excl VAT) delivery and you seem to be able to order it at this price. This must be a mistake I think.

This doesn't have the RAW image option, which for me was why I chose the S5600. Still looks a great deal though.

£125.00 now. This deal just keeps getting hotter!
It looks like Amazon are having a mini price war with the market place sellers.

I checked out ebay.com and found afew wide angle lens kits for these cameras, if you find one listed as 9600 or 6500 contact them as I find that they have other auctions they can sent to you.

Just ordered my close up lens for my 6500, although may sell them as just found a full kit (need to think about spending the additional £50 on it though:giggle:
