Which review -
The S1500 from Fujifilm is a decent 10Mp digital camera with a x12 optical zoom. It has some advanced manual controls to try out, but its test performance didn’t land it amongst our Best Buys.

A x12 optical zoom would be considered very generous for a more compact camera, though with bridge models this size it’s not uncommon to find x18, x20 or even x24 optical zooms.

The S1500’s zoom begins from a wide angle of 33mm - this isn’t particularly generous for fitting in tight indoor group shots or wide landscapes.

The camera has an image stabilisation system, though our tests revealed it to be very poor at limiting the effects of shaky hands.

Sorry - cold from me, only 63% in which review. Coupled with only 12 quid less than the compared prices.

The picture quality of the S1500’s photos is quite good, with shots taken in bright daylight conditions looking best of all. The camera copes admirably in challenging low light conditions as well. There’s a degree of grainy image noise in its low light shots, but this speckled effect is to be expected and the S1500 keeps this to an acceptable level.

The S1500’s movie mode is rather less impressive. Short video clips taken with the S1500 will look particularly poor when played back on a TV screen or computer monitor, and the S1500 certainly can’t compete with a dedicated digital camcorder.

Disappointingly, the S1500 isn’t particularly fast in operation either. It takes 3.64 seconds to be ready to shoot after switching on, and there’s a lag of 3.51 seconds from one shot to the next. In burst mode, the camera can take one shot automatically every 0.71 seconds.

The S1500 offers a few manual controls to experiment with. There are priority modes for aperture and shutter speed, though the camera does not have full manual focusing.

The camera has face detection technology to help maintain focus on individuals within your shots, and there are 14 scene modes to try out as well.

Pros: manual controls, x12 zoom lens

Cons: slow between shots, poor movie mode

Next cheapest is £115 at Amazon, so a good price if someone is interested in this particular camera. There was a thread posted for the Amazon deal just over a week ago so it might be worth reading the comments in that thread too if anyone is considering it....
