Strange, I can't see any mention of this camera at DPReview or Steve's Digicams.
I don't see any mention of image stabilisation on the product information - that would be a serious omission on a camera with 15x optical zoom.

Probably the usual "exclusive" version that Argos and Tesco direct have which means its difficult to compare with the standard models, They do it with Beds, cameras, laptops, allsorts:-(

All you can do is look at the specs of the closest Fuji standard model, and of course take it back if need be!
It looks like it MIGHT be the 1700 model:
http://fujifilm.co.uk/consumer/digital/digital-cameras/d-slr-long-zoom/finepix-s1700 bu I haven't spent much time comparing it so check, it could be the S1600!

Just checked the Fujifilm site it has both the 1700/1730 but they seem to have the same spec.

The Fujifilm site says that it does have image stabilisation, so that would make it a very good deal.
Strange that Agros don't mention that.

Very good value. Hot.

If you click 'larger image and zoom' then watch the video it states it has duel image stabilisation.

Honestly? Terrible if image quality is your highest priority.

Naughty Argos! They mention it was available at £109.99 - but not that it was previously available for £74.99! Which was when I got one. Good camera, though.

A DSLR will have a much larger sensor. There are 3 things which greatly affect image quality and they are sensor size, lens quality and the image processing software on the camera. A DSLR will be better on all 3 fronts, but it is the sensor size which will make the biggest difference and there the DSLR is much, much better.

how does this compare to a Panasonic TZ8?

Do you think that this is better than a Nikon D40?

Hardly a shock, a very cheap DSLR is 300 quid or much more, now it's hardly going to be beaten by a 90 quid Bridge camera now is it!?

That said I have an even more basic Fuji Bridge camera than this, and won't have a bad word said about it, for it's price - convenient and cheap with better results than compact cameras, not TOO big to carry about, and can be used by novice or expert and anyone in-between auto or manually.

Picked mine up this afternoon and so far I'm impressed. It's better than my Canon 480 Powershot but the colours aren't as vibrant as a Panasonic TZ8 (however that camera is £80 more).

The only issue I have is when recording a 720P HD movie to SD card it only records for 10 seconds then starts storing the video, I can't see an option to set it to continuous. Any advice guys and gals?

Is the SD card fast enough? Cheap cards can be very slow.

Sorted it by formatting the sd card within the camera. Took some shots with it today aswell as a TZ8, they look identical really so Im happy. Got the case from Argos too which fits snuggly. Will post some sample pics over the weekend :)

great price, have just orered one :) cant wait to pick it up thanks

Well took this to a wedding and must say I expected better from it. Some pictures are too dark, grainy, out of focus... my Canon A480 can do a better job than this! I tried pretty much all the different settings the camera has to offer but no luck. Cant send it back to Argos so it's going on that auction site, I'm gonna get an SLR instead.. shame though as this camera is quite nice to hold
#21
great deal considering the price and the functionality, image quality won''t be great as expected though

Was £74.99 2 months ago. See old listing using search. So not half price!!

this has already been mentioned...
Pretty impressed with some of the functions and agree its not like a SLR camera but doesnt have the same price tag as one of them either

So far I've found this camera is great outdoors under natural light, as soon as you bring it indoors it suffers. The best pictures are with custom setting - flash at full - and apperture adjusted - fast shoot on, this will give the best indoor results but even then they not that good.

My camera is the utterly ancient 3.2MP Fuji S5000 superzoom. It's so old you don't get XD cards any more (thanks Wikipedia).

Even now, it's a great camera, for my needs, but..the SLR shape has caused me problems in public. Took this to a few gigs and security INSIST it's an SLR and I'm getting turfed out if I don't put it away..while everyone else merrily records/snaps pictures around me.

Not a major problem but something to consider. To be honest, in hindsight it's a tad too bulky for me.
