Just send it back.

Will they charge return p&p?

Will they charge return p&p?

You pay the postage yourself, amazon will not refund the postage unless the item was faulty and needs to be replaced.

Actually I just did it and selected 'Item did not meet my expectations' and the return P&P is free.

Bit worried if it gets lost in the post as no real proof of posting.

I had it delivered free to a Tesco direct store just down the road from me

I would warn potential purchasers of this camera that it suffers from horrendous purple fringing on areas of high contrast (e.g. between buildings and skies, trees and skies etc.)...check out some sample photos online before you buy.

Utter rubbish - this camera is superb. It you blow up a pic 100 times then enhance the contrast, then apply a filter then look through a uv light you might see a purple tone on 1pixel assuming you are using a 24" monitor at highest resolution and the photo was taken at midday in dazzling sunlight

....meanwhile back in the real world ;-) ......it's 70 quid people, yes 70 quid

Its a good camera, read the following review from an expert

#13
Amazing camera got it back in june, cant recomend it enough!
#14
Steve's Digicams and Photography Blog both give it a good review.

On the subject of fringing Photography Blog says:
Though the Fujifim Finepix F20 displays the common problem of purple fringing evidenced between areas of high contrast, this is no worse than its immediate competitors and only starts to become apparent when viewing the images at 100%

I'm not sure that's enough reason to avoid the camera as it scores highly in other areas.

Edit: Ooops! I type too slow :-)

Your camera is obviously faulty then as it wouldn't win all the awards under the sun and be the 'best buy' everywhere if it did what you stated.
#16
It gets a decent write-up here:

http://www.steves-digicams.com/2007_reviews/fuji_f20_pg5.html

Though he does mention the purple fringing; the thing that would put me off is the use of xD cards.

Great camera, unfortunately although it states it's Mac Compatible it doesn't mount on my Mac or any other Mac I have tried it on, I bought mine last week from an Asda (£79) but will probably return it for this reason, great shame, the movie quality of this camera is absolutely superb, also very quick from turning on to actually taking a photograph.

I can't recommend it enough for it's abilities as a camera, just doesn't seem to be Mac compatible which is strange as my last Fuji Digicam was fine with my Mac.

Maybe the one I have just has a fault with it's USB lead, would be interested to hear from any other users of this camera who have a Mac?

Just get a card reader for a £5'er. I can't believe you returned the camera because of this.

I never connect my camera to Computer as a card reader is a lot less hassle and saves battery....

Maybe try it on a PC to see if the USB lead is faulty....

States everywhere it is MAC compatible. Good luck.

This is a brilliant camera. I bought it in June because it had so many recommendations for low light shooting and they weren't wrong. Everyone wants to steal my photos from a night out now!
Never experienced the purple fringing problem ....
#21
I highly recommend this: fantastic camera - best digital camera I ever bought. I bought a couple of months back for about £80, so this is a cracking price
#22
Yeah have had same problem with macintosh with camera not mounting on desktop. iphoto sees the camera okay for importing your shots but I bought a card reader for about 6 quid so although you have to take the card out of the camera you are saving battery power using the reader instead. Still should mount though. May enquire when Fuji about this one when I get a minute. Argos had this for £80 a few months back with a new camera being launched I think. Godd battery on it aswell!

What is wrong with xD cards. I have no problems with any of mine.

What I need to know is if the date and time need to be reset when taking out and replacing the card. I have a compact Fuji which has the card under the same cover as the batteries, so it need resetting each time the card is removed.

Thanks for the reply.

I don't actually like iPhoto as I find it intrusive when you just want to quickly download some photos from your camera so I trashed mine.

Strange that it clearly states Mac Compatible, usually cameras that don't state that still work on Macs, this is the 3rd Fuji Digital Camera I have owned but is the 1st one not to mount on the desktop.

I used to have an XD reader but it broke, it's far from ideal having to keep taking the card out of the camera so I reckon I am returning mine.

Purple fringing is a very common issue on cameras from all brands, the Fuji is no different. It's not whether it fringes or not, it's how much and if it's enough to bother you.

My S5700 has some fringing in high contrast shots, but I'll put up some piccies if anyone's interested. Not that there isn't millions on the web :-D

My 2003 Cybershot will mount it's memory stick on the desktop, my 2007 Fuji will not, both run flawlessly in iPhoto, looks like drag and drop is no longer an option.

I have read on other forums that Morrisons are selling 512mb XD cards for £3.99

Is that all recent Fuji's in general or are you referring to the F20 in particuliar?

I just wanted to say "thank you" to rangermastiffs for posting this. I've been wanting to grab a Fuji F20 camera for under £100 for ages, but keep missing the deals. From all of the reviews I've read, it looks like an excellent, excellent buy.

Must just be my eyes that are seeing big purple lines on the building in this sample photo then.

Knock yourself out.

The one I mentioned earlier, an S5700.

Come to think of it, both a mid to high end consumer Nikon and a cheapy Concorde didn't mount on the desktop last year when I was importing other peoples stuff.

Interesting, I very nearly bought the S5700 myself a few weeks ago until I saw Pixmania were unreliable and sent out French manuals.

We use a Nikon D50 on the Macs at work and that mounts without a problem.

Basically some cameras mount as desktop volumes, some don't. Just another thing for you to Google if you hate iPhoto I guess.

Just re-checked my old Sony Cybershot in OS X 10.4.10, still mounts, definitely not an OS thing.

I like some of the features in iPhoto but on the whole it just grates on me as it takes full control of where it stores photos and when I used it I always seemed to end up with hundreds of randomly named folders some of which had only 1 or two photos in each one, I prefer my own system, I have a a folder for each year and within that folder I have 12 folders one for each month, that way I find it easier to archive and know where pics are quickly.
