Seems like a cracking price for a decent 10mp camera and has loads of good reveiws.

The Fujifilm Finepix A170 offers full 10 megapixel quality plus 3x zoom optics and great low light (ISO 1600) performance plus a large 2.7" monitor, all in a compact body.

Panorama Mode
This model is equipped with a Panorama mode that allows up to three consecutive images to be seamlessly stitched together.

Automatic Scene Recognition
With Auto Scene Recognition, the Finepix A170 will recognise shooting situations from six choices (Portrait (with Face Detection), Landscape, Macro, Backlit Portrait, Night and Night Portrait). Once the appropriate mode is selected, exposure and focus settings are then optimised.

Picture Stabilisation
Fujifilm's own anti-blur technology helps keep your images sharp and free from the effects of shake.

Convenient Power on the Go
The Finepix A170 uses two standard AA batteries so that if you run out of power, it's always easy to replace them.

Cheers patscorpio for adding link to previous post, noticed with this camera you have to change the battery settings for Ni MH from alkaline batteries when using which ever type anyone know why?:?

Pretty good for money, picked one up before xmas.

"CAMERAS8" doesn't seen to work for me, don't know why. With "NECTAR5" you save £2.40 but quidco cash back won't work I suppose.

Im tempted!

http://www.jessops.com/corporate/doc/Jessops_EGM_Circular_Dec_2009.pdf says that they are applying to go into liquidation on January 21st. I wouldn't buy this by mail order from them. If you bought it from a shop, then at least you know that you have the goods.

Very sad. If they close we'll be left with just DSG and maybe Comet in many towns.

No doubt the bargain vultures are circling already and I'm not averse to a good deal myself but in the long run we all lose.

GREAT Deal!! Heat added

£45 isn't bad, but remember you'll spend hundreds on AA batteries for the damn thing.

I think you'll find a pack of NiMH rechargable batteries and a charger will save you from that.

Its nice to have the option of buying extra batteries if you end up too far from a charger for long.

Bl00dy hell! That's sudden - I have a friend works there and he's not said anything about it, I don't think he knows. :(

I found this to be a very poor camera. I bought one for my daughter for Christmas and the pictures she got from it were grainy and often suffered from camera blur. Additionally it was slow to start up and focus. I played with the camera myself and found exactly the same problems. Now I was comparing it with my own Panasonic FS4 which only has an 8mp sensor. I took it back and bought a Panasonic FS42 for a little bit more money.

The moral of this convoluted tale?

It's cheap for a reason.

I don't know if it means that the current company gets liquidated, to be replaced by a new one that runs the same shops. However, I would rather wait and find out.

I had placed an order with them on Boxing day for a Fujifilm Z35 that was listed as being available for special order, for delivery within ~ 28 days. It was getting rather close to the January 21st deadline, so I cancelled and ordered from Amazon instead.

Whatever, you I would absolutely, definitely not buy something from them by mail order using a debit card. Otherwise you could find that they take the money, but don't deliver the goods, and you become a creditor. At least with a credit card, its the credit card company's problem. You don't get a camera, but you do get a refund.

I bought this camera online last week-very pleased with it--I use rechargeables and they seem to be lasting well. It has loads of different settings including one I really like called "baby" which gives a lovely soft skintone--great for us older peeps too! Even a setting for photographing text. All of the settings come up on the screen with a description of exactly what effect they will give which is great for a tecnophobe like me. For an extra £15 got a 3 year warenty.

No, they've been in trouble for some time. This has been looming for months, unfortunately.

Not that simple - the Jessops shops are owned by a different company now:

AA Batteries and M2 memorycards will cost a fortune.

Much better to go for a camera with a Lithium Ion battery and which takes SD memory cards.

Spend a little extra to save!

Agree re battery but it does take SD/SDHC. What is M2?

Ok my mistake Fuji and Olympus used to use XD (not M2) memory cards which cost loads compared with the same size SD card.

Fuji seem to have moved over to SD now and I understand even Olympus are doing so.

Just leaves Sony to avoid (MemoryStick).
