I've no idea about the company but before anyone reads over the specs and dismisses this camera for its seemingly low resolution sensor, don't! The Fuji F30 and F31 have outstanding high ISO performance - what this means is that in low light you can increase the ISO to increase your shutter speed. In many compact cameras with small sensors tightly packed with pixels you can hardly increase the ISO at all without introducing far too much noise but the F3X series very much stand out for their high ISO ability. Given many people use their cameras in lowlight pubs, clubs etc. I think this is something which is definitely of interest.

Also, the face detection works surprisingly well - when I first heard about this feature it just sounded like a marketting gimmick to me but it works surprisingly well in identifying the faces of people. The benefit is that you should get more accurate exposure and focus plus on playback you can scroll through the faces to see if the focus/exposure is correct. For those who can focus/expose accurately it's not much use but I'm sure I'm not the only one who sees pictures from friends where the exposure/focus is wrong for the subject because the camera has been thrown off by a bright background or tree to focus on.

This is possibly one of the best compact cameras - I bought one with the hopes that it would replace my Canon Pro1 slr-alike.

Sadly in comparison to even an slr-alike, let alone the plethora of perfectly good DSLRs, it is terrible, but I guess it's the best of a bad bunch.

Very detailed review here. For a compact its the dogs wossnames...

I've compared this at length to the Canon A640 being raved about in the other threads, and have to say that for £122 it's an absolute steal!

Might be voted cold because of the retailer? It's really not much help when people vote cold without detailing why...looking around other stores it could be that it's not that hot a deal as other sites have it for a similar price by who knows...

Tecno is owned by Jessops.

I have ordered lots of stuff from Tecno, no problem whatsoever.

Voted Hot.. ;-)

I was only guessing about the retailer, glad to see I'm wrong - something to bear in mind if I see a good deal from this retailer.

Don't you just hate it when people vote cold yet give no reason for doing so.

Indeed, it really annoys me, this is an excellent camera at a great price from a reliable retailer.

What do they want?

I have added Rep.

Very much - if there is a better deal out there or a reason not to buy the item in the deal it would be far more useful to have that information posted.

Brilliant camera at a brilliant price. I bought this over a month ago at amazon for £154 and it's worth every penny. Since then it has come down in price, but I have no regrets about buying mine at the price I did. According to reviews, the camera itself is 'average' but the sensor is the best available in a compact.

Voted HOT.

I debated long and hard between this and the Panasonic LX2 - the LX2 won out because of its better feature set, particularly the 28mm wide angle view and widescreen sensor which I find very useful when shooting indoors. Unfortunately the high ISO performance is poor (can't have everything sadly), with F3x prices in freefall I'm extremely tempted to pick one up and use whichever one is better suited for the occasion.

I would just stick with an SLR but I find them virtually useless for many social occasions as people are very uncomfortable having their picture with it whereas they'll happily give a cheesy grin or pose for a compact.

There is nothing wrong with this camera at all. It just requires the user to understand how to get the best out of it.

The one selling at Tecno has only 1 year warranty.

If you want 2 years warrant you can check Pixmania. They are selling it for £125 + £4 shipping and but if you use quidco to get 3% discount it will be £121.25 + £4 = £125.25.

Another whole year of warrant for only £2.37 I think this is the sweetest deal for camera out there.

Depends on how much value you place on an extra years warranty from a company such as Pixmania, I think the original offer is still the best option.

Just bought one of these (Amazon) about 2 weeks ago - great little camera but still playing with it for best results - dont even bother using digital zoom - its useless but as a pocket camera its very useful. Compared to my Fuji SLR Digital which eats rechargeable batteries this is fantastic as took over 300 photos on a visit to Paignton Zoo with the Kids and no power problems at all
#22
Amazon has dropped their price to £125 so don't forget to claim your price drop refund.
#23
ahh thanks very much User1234 - will have a look at how to do that

Tecno are part of the Jessops Group so no worries about being a unknown retailer and you will get a UK model, I have brought from Tecno before and it is despatched from Jessops address

With Pixmania you are getting a French supplied camera, I know it will be the same but more hassle from a Warrenty point of view and the instruction manual will be in French

Just ordered one from Jessops using 5% code, £123.49, and I can pick it up in an hour. I now have the peace of mind that if anything goes wrong I can walk into the shop and sort it out easily :) Also used quidco at 3% but not sure if it'll track for 'collect in store' items. We shall see ....

Thanks to calum_h for the post and to everyone who posted opinions / reviews etc
