f versatility and functionality are what you are looking for then the FinePix S1500 is the camera for you. This superzoom camera is surprisingly compact; especially when you consider that it packs a massive 12x zoom.

The 10 Megapixel CCD sensor produces sharp, high resolution photos with vivid colours, perfect for enlarged prints or viewing on the large, clear 2.7" screen. Thanks to its small size, lightweight design and automatic features, it's a top choice for days out with the family. And if you want to advance your photographic skills and get creative there's also the option of Aperture and Shutter Priority modes.
The S1500 is small and easy to handle

With its superbly lightweight casing and easy to handle design, you'll be surprised how dinky this camera really is

Good things come in small packages
The FinePix S1500 features a Continuous Shooting mode ideal to capture sporting events or other action scenes at 13.5 frames per second in a burst-check this stat, I can't see 13.5 fps. Once you've taken your shots, High Speed Playback lets you view them as a streaming sequence.

Instant zoom makes it easy to frame and compose shots of moving subjects at high zoom settings. A selectable frame on the LCD screen lets you track your subject and when the shutter is released, Instant Zoom boosts the zoom ratio and captures only the selected area as a full sized image.

Normally only found on digital SLRs, the Tracking Auto Focus function tracks the subject automatically for as long as the shutter is half-pressed and the subject is kept inside the frame. This ensures your subject is kept in-focus even when the zoom range is fully extended.

The new Panoramic Shooting Mode makes it very easy to create impressive panoramic shots. Panorama Shooting captures and combines a maximum of three consecutive shots at 3 Megapixel resolution, which are saved to the memory card as one panoramic picture.
Capture sweeping scenery or large groups

Making it easy to take great photos
The FinePix S1500 features Automatic Scene Recognition technology which intelligently recognises the type of scene you are shooting and adjusts the camera settings to optimise results. This takes all the hassle out of photography and lets you snap away safe in the knowledge that your photos will come out well. SR Auto chooses between 6 pre-set scene modes: Portrait, Landscape, Night Portrait, Backlit Portrait, Macro and Night.
large, clear 2.7

With a large, clear 2.7" screen it is easy to compose and look back at the photos you've taken

Advanced Feature Set
Fujifilm's Dual Image Stabilisation can be engaged to reduce the blurring effects of both hand-shake and subject movement (which often occur when shooting at full zoom ranges) to produce sharp, clean results no matter what the shooting conditions. In addition the FinePix S1500 is equipped with Face Detection technology with automatic red-eye removal, so no more unsightly red-eye reflection that can often spoil flash

Fuji is really moving in the wrong direction with these long zoom cameras. The 6500/9500 were good, the 8000/8100 were less so and the new 1000/1500/2000 are not good cameras for picture taking. Although they have more megapixels and the 2000 has HD movie, the noise is too much, cromatic abberations are too strong, and colours aren't that good either. All this is due to Fuji giving in to the pixel race and HD movie facility, which a photographer doen't need. It's a real shame.

10 Megapixel CCD sensor is not too much

Agreeing about ''pixel race'',though
#3
I have to say this camera is outstanding and very easy to use.
#4
too much chromatic abolaishments for me voted cold, and colurs are very blueish red...

I wish I could get rid of my abolaishments it's worse than piles!

There's no pleasing some souls is there?

The 8000 range are brilliant - top notch cameras.

same price at buyacamera.co.uk, with a 6.99 delivery charge but with a two year warranty. Anyone dealt with this company?

Do you mean 'chromatic aberration'? I've never heard of abolaishments :?

I'd love to know what all of these comments mean..?? I think that's why I have a Sony DSC-T2W!

These cameras are very good for what they are. Too many seem to think that these are comparable to DSLR's and they are NOT!! Same with the megapixel quoters. I have the Canon 400d and thats "only" 10mp, it WILL however, wee all over any compact even if it were 2000megapixel as its the sensor that matters, not the pixels!!!!!

To reiterate, this is a good cam and a good alternative to a compact....

I want a single device for doing both pictures and video. Okay it is a compromise but I had a camcorder and often it isn't with me when I want to capture that magic moment (no smirky remarks please).

I don't know how the s2000hd compares to the Panasonic TZ7 (apart from it's cheaper).

Some of the reviews of the HD content on the s2000hd are not very good.

Any comments?

I'm thinking of getting the Panasonic FZ38... or the TZ7
#18
TZ7 is a far better camera when tested on online review sites.

I've had this camera for six months, i bought it when my son was born from tesco for about £125. I have to say this camera is outstanding and very easy to use. For this price the deal is HOT

If I had a son from Tesco I wouldn't tell anyone (unless he was Finest of course). Quite cheap for a son I think though the prices have been falling. Have you checked out the daughters too?

We always get our kids from Waitrose.

Buyacamera is a price comparison site, they don't sell cameras.
I always check equipment prices with them, they are pretty good but they don't always find the best price.

like cheap printers, cheap to buy a bomb to keep in consumables

A very good price i think.

Just bought one for my Xmas!!

So it's obviously not as good as the DSLRs but at this price i don't expect it to be. But it's a hell of a lot better than the Finepix camera i have at the moment!

I have a fuji 5600 which is imo a great wee versatile camera - I'd say this was hot. For a punter this camera will be great.

i was on the lookout for a cheap HD camcorder and ended up buying a Sony H20 camera instead. Having that kind of function on a camera is a great bonus as it appeals to more people. I looked at these fuji's, but being a bit of a sony fan plumped for the H20. And so glad i did, i can take fantastic family pictures and still record excellent quality video footage if i spot the kids doing something i want to catch. Those moments can be lost when trying to switch devices.

Does this have the annoying trait of our Sony cyber-shot.... in that you click to take a photo and have to wait 2-3 sec's for it to take a photo especially with the flash on!!!!

Actually only wanted one of each so not looking any more in case I spot a bargain. I reckon their quality control is pretty good though so if you're after one you needn't spend too long searching there. A bit more expensive but I always say 'you get what you pay for' (it's not true but I always say it).

I don't think you could say the same for Tesco (or even Sainsbury's) though, you have to be more selective there. As for Morrisons or ASDA I hate to think how they'd turn out.
