Fujifilm Finepix Z5fd £49.99 at Sainsburys

Pocketable and durable

At less than 20mm thick, the FinePix Z5fd is small enough to fit easily into a pocket or bag. It features the traditional 'Z' series sliding lens cover, with a 'Z5' motif that lights up when switched on. It also features a rugged 2.5" scratch resistant LCD screen and non-extending Fujinon 3x optical zoom lens making it the perfect camera to use on the move.
Fujinon lens technology

From the early days of the FinePix Z1, Fujifilm has been perfecting the unique internal vertical zoom lens that allows the camera to be so compact. Rather than extending outwards, the optical zoom moves up and down beneath the lens to give a zoom range of 36mm to 108mm (x 3). The optical zoom can be extended up x 18.5 by combining it with the digital zoom (electronic cropping).

Despite its compact size, there are no compromises with optical clarity and speed of operation. The lens is robust, reliable, and delivers sharp pictures every time.
2.5 inch LCD screen

A camera of this class demands the very best TFT LCD, and at a generous size of 2.5" and a resolution of 230,000 pixels, you can't get much better.

Sensing ambient light, the LCD automatically adjusts brightness for optimum viewing indoors or outdoors. Manual control can provide additional brightness.

Unlike other inferior cameras, the LCD is protected by a scratch resistant, reinforced acrylic protective shield, so even if loose in a pocket, the LCD has its own in-built protection.

The extra-large LCD makes it easy to frame your photos and playback the results to friends in brilliant, rich colour. The NTSC/PAL video output also enables pictures to be viewed on TV.

I had one of these until recently when it developed a fault. I was very disappointed to return it for a refund (retailer no longer stocked it) a month ago as it had great pics (unlike the Z100 which I bought as a replacement and then returned). I'm over the moon that I've found it again for £100 less than I paid for it last summer!

My local store only had the pink one on display, but had other colours in stock.

It's instore only as far as I know.

Don't get too caught up with the number of megapixels as I'm guessing not too many of us are planning on making posters from our prints. I'd recommend this for anyone looking for a slim, easy to carry and use point and shoot. It makes great standard prints and also still looks good even on my 46" LCD!

It's funny to see the votes go hot and cold.......

Dead handy for sticking in your pocket. Got me a Casio Exilim EX-Z75 already though. Oh, and a Canon EOS350D and a Canon G3. Not that I'm greedy or anything. ;-)

mega pixels?

Oh my......is it really that hard to copy and paste the name of the camera into Google or Amazon and check the mega pixels for yourself rather than asking someone else to do it for you?! Bloody hell! Some people
#9
Maybe he was asking in aid to suggest it amending in the thread title?!

Voted hot! Great camera, great price! I own a canon exilim that has accompanied me on MANY nights out and has sadly died a death. The bad thing about that was the external lens

This has an internal lens, so nothing to get broken there!

Voted hot, going to my local at lunch!

Excellent reviews everywhere. I've had Fuji cameras in the past and been very impressed. I'm off to get one later today as a friends pressy - this will be perfect for her - pink colour an added bonus! Voted hot. Many thanks for the post.

Just rung my local (Bamber Bridge) and they have them in stock with a ticket price of £79.99 - I asked the lady to scan it to be sure and it came up at £49.99. Got one put aside. Cheers OP

Hi

I'm not too knowledgeable when it comes to digital cameras and am looking for advice. I'm looking for a camera for going backpacking in the summer and am now considering this one. I will need it to be slim as well as having good optical zoom and obviously taking good pictures. My partner will also use it for her special effects make up course so will need it to take high detail closeups without the flash messing about (like the current camera!). Battery life is kind of important too.

I was previously thinking of getting the Samsung Digimax i6. Could anyone advise whether this is a better option?

Thanks!
Will

I have this fuji camera in silver. The battery life is excellent. We have hardly had to charge it up.
However, its not very hard wearing - having dropped it once, the battery compartment door is now hanging off.
Pictures are adequate and they say mega pixels isn't everything - the lens is important as well (I know nothing about digital cameras though!)
#18
Just picked one up from Bamber Bridge.
Just a note it was the last one (excluding the one reserved by the guy above)
Only colour left is brown, which is excellent cause I dont have to wash my hands after going to the toilet

Awwwwwwww - the one I had reserved was brown too! The lady on the phone told me it was cranberry.... I specifically wanted a cheap pink camera. Not to worry. So there's still a brown one in Bamber Bridge if anyone's interested.

They do this model in silver and brown too, I picked up a brown one from the colliers wood store- it looks very smart not girly at all.

So I guess the question is now... for the same price, the F20 or the Z5fd?

Other than one being obviously smaller (Z5fd) than the other, what are the pros and cons?

Without doing all the detailed research, I would say the z5fd. It cant win all those awards and then be a bad camera. I doubt that the F20 won so many awards.

Just picked mine up from Sainsburys in Swindon (Bridgemead) Had to barter and flutter my eye lashes for the display model. No discount though :(

Still...super happy! Sadly its pink sorry... 'raspberry red' but who cares for this price!!

Heat and rep added :)

Just got a pink one from Osmaston Road in Derby, over the moon been looking for a new camera for a while:thumbsup:

No stock in Milton Keynes or Blechley for both F20 and Z5fd though :(

Thanks a lot for this, just went to the denton, (nr manchester) and picked up a brown one (looked black!) and a "rasberry red" one, (pink).. for £99.98. They had 2 brown/black ones left.

We currently own the Fuji Finepix F410 which we bought a few years back from QVC when it was a TSV. But we have just bought this model purely because the LCD screen is 2.5 inches where as the F410 screen is the size of a large postage stamp, plus this new one is alot smaller than our current camera.

Three left in Doncaster (Edenthorpe store)

Picked up the pink one (although it says Red on the box)

SA said that the price was fantasic for a Fuji camera - WE KNOW...! :-D

Overall very VERY pleased...Thanx OP for listing this.

ehm post no7 had a link to the all the pics and info you'd ever want!

I'm glad lots of other people are picking up this bargain. I haven't checked if ours is working yet. I hope so as there probably won't be any spares!
#34
I forgot to mention that I use http://www.johnlewis.com/230406794/Product.aspx as the camera case. It fits perfectly and means it's still trouser pocketable without any scratches.
#35
Great find, got myself one from my local store (Gloucester) earlier on, they had quite a few of the pink ones still in stock, I got a brown one.. not sure how many of those were left.

10 last night in Sydenham, all brown

2GB card is £9.85 from Ebay sellers delivered (fast shipping from china, probably faster than/as quick as Play)

Bought one for my Mum who needs it for her two week holiday.
Great find and an even hotter deal, since I bumped into a friend as I was about to pay for it with my shopping;
He works at sainsburys and told me that he could get 20% discount if he bought it for me.
Told SA that I did not want camera, went back to electronics counter and purchased another one with my friends discount (SA did not look very pleased!).
Got camera for £40!!
Thanks OP and Thanks T !!

Why would the sales assistant not be happy that you bought the camera with your mate's staff discount card? I used to work there and if it were me or any of the people I used to work with, we would've been happy to give you a refund and then charge you the staff discounted price.

I'm actually trying to get the F20. It seems that the Z5fd is available if you look around, but the F20 is a very rare breed. Lets see what I can come up with today.
#40
I looked for the F20 but could not find anything in London. Instead I bought the Fujifilm Finepix Z5d (brown) for £50.

Sainsburys Hendon, had plenty left, but only a few in brown. Lots in pink.
