Great price for this camera. Voted HoT !

Just a quick heads up though that if you are out and about near a Dixons or can get free delivery the camera is an amazing £78.33. (No codes but delivery is £4.95)

EDIT:

Apparently I am behind the times and Dixons no longer have stores !:oops: (thanks Nikkib)

So you'll need a free delivery code for Dixons or a price match with one of the high st retailers to get the lower price.

Hi and happy Sunday to you Nikki.

Shows how up to date I am doesn't it !! I knew they closed down the High Street stores or rebranded them but thought they still had larger out of town stores.

Looking though I think you are correct !!

Wonder if people can price match at Curry's, Comet etc ??

Thanks for the info though Nikki, saves confusion :) Rep added.

Hello there, greetings from a frosty Cheshire
I only know because I am after a DSLR camera from Dixons and they have sold out on the interenet site. I then said "its ok I'll just pop down to the shop and get one" to which my other half said "you will have a job it closed down ages ago".
Oh well fingers crossed they come back into stock.
Have a good day

Lots of places have been doing this cheap for ages now - this one on CPC has been at that price all year:

And no Image Stabilistion, and "only" 8MP, but then with a little 1/2.5" CCD, No proper Wide Angle, and is a slightly worse camera overall.

That said, the price difference between the S5800 and S8100fd greater than the spec difference, the S8000fd is better value, the same spec as the S8100 (Less 2MP, but a less crowded CCD, which = better ISO handling), and can be got for £108 refurb.

Still hot though.

I'm seriously tempted by the S8000fd, anyone on here got one ?

Yes I do, brilliant camera for the money, not without its flaws (although with work you can get great pictures out of it.) but for the price is one of the best value for money superzooms.

Edit: I written a small review of the camera for fun at a tech site I frequent, link below:

The Best camera i have ever owned, I take action shots of my little boys football team and have sent a few of them to the local paper, they say the quality is as good as what they would publish.

I have one too, I love the zoom but need to buy a tripod!:whistling: Photos come out crisp clear!

Nice camera.

What is the optical zoom on it? I assume it has IS then?

Shame it takes XD.....
#16
This camerea takes XD or SD cards, and has a 10x optical zoom (I own one!)
It does have IS, but not mechanical IS (CCD-shift), it has a strange electronic IS which (please correct me if i'm wrong) decreases the shutter speed and increases the ISO slightly in order to compensate for camera movement. Not a very good IS imo but can work for some!

Mark

Oh, and by the way - the camera in the nice little picture on the deal page here isn't the S5800, as the S5800 doesn't have an extendable zoom lens, it's all contained in the non-moveable lens!

Dixons, Currys, PC world and out of interest The Link (for mobile phones) are all the same company..... so I doubt you will get a cut in price, only a match to the lowest you found.

In my experince comet have only ever done a price match - never a price beating deal - though that could have changed, as they seem to watch Currys prices all the time and vice-versa etc.

Good price though for the camera.

Many thanks to you guys for your replies, much appreciated, and especially to you Stop as I read your review and saw the pics and it has given me a good insight into the camera,

I think at present I am going to stick to the camera I have which is a Fuji s7000 as there doesn't seem to be much if any difference in the picture quality.

I bought a s5800 from the fujifilm site 2 weeks ago. It is awesome for the money. It did not look as if it had been used before. While it is 6 months warranty, if it works when you get it it is likely to work forever. Go for it.

by the way the photo in this post is wrong - the s5800 does not have a protruding zoom lens - it just does it "inside" the existing barrel..... if that makes sense.

Cheers Yogurt. I was thinking about having this one for Crimbo but the reviews of the image quality are putting me off some what. In some reviews I am reading:

Level of fine detail isn't as good as some.
The lens produces some barrel distortion at wide angle.
Corners are a bit blurred and have lots of chromatic aberration.
Purple Fringe.

Do you own one? Does anyone else own one? Can you give an appraisal of it here? Thank you for any input.
