Ivy bridge i5 laptops seem to fill a pointless niche in the market. Overkill for general Web browsing and what not and the in built graphics are inferior to amd apu's. Suppose it's a good price regardless

Yes very true AMD GPU would out perform the intel chip for 3D gaming only! but not massively! but not on processing benchmark base Intel has that,, I dont think people aim to play the latest and greats games on this Laptop as its still borderline budget laptop in my eyes.

The onboard Intel® HD Graphics 4000 is more than enough to handle any HD video/image content at its very possible best ouput no probleme even with the highest bitrate Bluray HD 1080p playback not a issue and any separate high end graphics card or AMD GPU will not improve the picture quality the HD Graphic 4000 chip all ready meets the standard ...This is not a gaming laptop by no means but personally if you plan to play games you should be looking to pay well more that £399 and look for a uprated dedicated graphics chip.

Would this be any good for editing video footage in Adobe Premiere?

CS5 should work. I think from what I've read that CS6 can have problems with HD4000 graphics. Make sure you get the latest HD4000 driver from Intel.

Video Encoding not to get confused with rendering everyday video playback in general with any chipset platform from AMD to the latest and greatest intel i7 £1000 desktop will take a impact and run your CPU at 100% without a dowt ,,software packages like this require allot of juice memory ram will all so play a good part that ,,this can be helpedwith small upgrades and I think you can upgrade to 16GB so that should help if ran into and issues that is,, as this is the most stressful process you could perform on a processor is Video encoding ,,what this means in plain english is a simple how long you are prepared to wait for the encoding process and the stress on the CPU to buffer and complete without fails as all new laptops to desktops will work with Adobe Premiere no problem,,but to be certain there should be a minimum requirement somewhere to run Adobe Premiere ,,but I would say its trial and error on how smooth the process will be as anyone's guess really trial and error. but upgrades like max out your ram and SSD will balance it all out as there should not be a Bottleneck even with the above spec.

Adobe Premiere Pro needs a screen resolution of at least 1280 x 900, so no this will not run Premiere Pro. It will run Premiere Elements though.

    System requirements
    Windows

Intel® Core™2 Duo or AMD Phenom® II processor; 64-bit support required
    Microsoft® Windows® 7 with Service Pack 1 (64 bit)
    4GB of RAM (8GB recommended)
4GB of available hard-disk space for installation; additional free space required during installation (cannot install on removable flash storage devices)
Additional disk space required for preview files and other working files (10GB recommended)
    1280x900 display
    OpenGL 2.0–capable system
7200 RPM hard drive (multiple fast disk drives, preferably RAID 0 configured, recommended)
Sound card compatible with ASIO protocol or Microsoft Windows Driver Model
DVD-ROM drive compatible with dual-layer DVDs (DVD+-R burner for burning DVDs; Blu-ray burner for creating Blu-ray Disc media)
QuickTime 7.6.6 software required for QuickTime features
Optional: Adobe-certified GPU card for GPU-accelerated performance
This software will not operate without activation. Broadband Internet connection and registration are required for software activation, validation of subscriptions, and access to online services.* Phone activation is not available.

Ideal most Adobe Premiere users are Desktop owners or Apple Mac owners which usually have larger processors and additional dedicated graphics cards that will take a small load of the CPU which laptops just cant handle due to form factor and overall cooling which equals to allot more £££ so you get what you pay for.

Ordered this last week. Paid for fast delivery, in between 7an-12pm. Never arrived. Next day tracking said it was delivered. Yodel are a bunch of liars! Spent over a week ringing Comet. They said they would contact Yodel and I would get a call back. Never rang me back and I had to keep chasing it, spending money on a 0871 number and spending pounds and pounds because of their error.

Finally got a call today and they agreed to a refund. I won't be buying anything from Comet again while they use Yodel and they need to drop the 0871 number. Even say no to 0870.com couldn't help.

I couldn't disagree more, I bought an ivy bridge Lenovo and not only is it really fast for all types of applications it's great for games too. I bought it thinking maybe it would play SWTOR at very low setting but to my surprise it works at medium was no frame drops, I also payed tropico 4 in high detail with no issues and all this in something that makes no noise and cost £400.

The Intel HD 4000 is great for people like me that play the odd PC game which I think the vast majority of PC owners. Its also got USB 3 which makes it very future proof for flash drives and so forth.

I agree. One of my phones "got lost" at Yodel. Took ages to sort it out.

Yes, they are up with Sony and Thinkpads (Lenovo) which gets lots of attention in the second hand market.

if anyone buys this, they will hate those glossy plastics around touchpad.

also don't quite get why did Lenovo G580 i5 IB for £370 after all cashbacks score only about 80+ degrees and these are getting 200+

I have a similar model and the number pad to the right of the keyboard is a right nuisance for me. It menas I end up typing to the left rather than in the middle of the PC. Its only minor and may not bother someone else but I find it completely unbearabble and often make mistakes because keys arent where they intuitiveley (sp) are on other computers.

Otherwise no real complaints about it.

I spent over £1000 for a Fujitsu Siemens laptop a few years back and it overheated on its own accord and died within 2 years... I'll never touch Fujitsu goods again from that experience

Great spec and I was ready to buy one at Staples for the same price but they put their price up to £490 overnight :( Anyway I didn't like the physical look and feel of the laptop itself personally, very reflective screen and small unpleasantly textured touchpad. Might be worth a play before you buy it.
